Abstract

This study aimed to describe the need of culture-based Arabic reading materials by using multimedia. It used research and development approach proposed by Borg and Gall. This study was started by collecting some information through literaturereview, observation, documentation, and interview of 10 students of Arabic Language department students of UNJ. The result of this study showed that there are some aspects of Arabic reading materials for students in higher educationthat should be developed. First, the learning theme. Some of the learning themes that should be discussed are: 1) campus life, 2) academic activities, 3)students achievement, etc. Second, the aspect of multimedia. In this case, the learning material is needed to be designed by using multimedia completed with list of vocabulary, lesson summary, and some explanation in the form of audio and video. Third, the aspect of culture. The perspective of Indonesian culture is really necessary to be included in the Arabic reading materials for students. Abstract

Linguistic terms are somehow universal, although in some language those terms are not exactly mutual. Considering some linguistics differences among languages, there must be a careful consideration in translating linguistics terms. This research is conduct to analyze the translation process of English linguistics terms into Indonesian. Which translation procedures is applied in linguistics terms in glossary. In analyzing the data, the writer applies the theory Pedoman Umum Pembentukan Istilah (PUPI), diagram V translation Newmark’s methods, and other translation procedures contains of: (1) transposition, (2) modulation, (3) descriptive equivalent, (4) naturalisation, (5) paraphrase, (6) reduction and expansion, (7) compensation, (8) footnote translation, (9) recognised translation, (10) cultural equivalent, (11) transference, (12) calque, and (13) couplets. This is a qualitative research, and the source data comes from Glosarium Badan Pengembangan Bahasa dan Perbukuan (linguistic term only). Data collecting technique used in this research is document analysis. Having analyzed twenty entries from the glossaries, the writer found that there are some kind of technique used in translating the linguistic terms into the target language.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe (1) The compliances and deviationsof the principle of cooperation in the speech of Arabian humorous story “Nawādir Juhā Li Al-Atfāl”, (2) The speech context that happened in that story. This research uses descriptive methods with qualitative approach. The focus of this study is the speech ofcompliances and deviations of cooperation principle which is used in Arabian humorous story by uses methods and techniques to collect the data. In the provision of engineering log data is also used, namely selecting the text and record data that contain speech of compliance and deviation toward the principles of cooperation. The result of this research are the speech of Arabian humorous story “Nawādir Juhā Li Al-Atfāl” contain elements of compliance and deviation toward the principles of cooperation which is all of four maxims, are: maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance, and maxim of manner.
