Abstract

Maintaining healthy teeth and mouth was very important because in the mouth area there are various kinds of bacteria that can interfered with the health of the teeth and body health. Dental caries is a form of tooth decay that occurs due to the buildup of plaque on the teeth due to the accumulation of Streptococcus mutans bacteria on the tooth surface. Prevention of caries in teeth is generally carried out, namely controlling the formation of plaque on teeth by mechanical means (brushing the teeth) and coupled with the use of toothpaste as an additive to overcome the growth of S. mutans. This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial activity of toothpaste with olive oil as an additional ingredient against S. mutans. Toothpaste made with additional olive oil in various concentrations, namely 10, 15 and 20%, the control toothpaste was the toothpaste that was not given additional oil. The antimicrobial activity of toothpaste was tested by using agar diffusion method using disc paper. The results showed that toothpaste with the addition of olive oil at concentrations of 10, 15 and 20% had antimicrobial activity against S. mutans with zone values of 24.55 each; 26.25; and 28.25 mm. The biggest zone of resistance is 28.25 mm at an additional concentration of 20% oil.

Abstract

The wound is defined as a breakdown of the epithelial integrity of the skin, which can be caused by sharp or blunt trauma, temperature changes, chemicals, explosions, electric shocks, or animal bites. Jatropha sap (Jatropha cuniculus L.) contains tannins and saponins that can stop bleeding, prevent infection, and play a role in wound healing. This study aims to determine whether the sap of Jatropha (Jatropha curcas L.) in the form of a gel can heal cuts and determine the concentration of jatropha sap in an effective gel formulation in healing cuts in experimental animals. The sap was collected and then formulated into a gel with concentrations of 15%, 20%, and 25%. The results showed that the gel formula with a concentration of 15% Jatropha gum could heal wounds for 18 days, a 20% concentration could heal wounds for 17 days, and a 25% concentration could heal wounds for 14 days. At the same time, the gel base cures for 19 days. From the research, it can be concluded that Jatropha (Jatropha curcas L.) latex in the form of a gel can provide the best healing effect at a concentration of 25% with the fastest wound healing time of 14 days.

Abstract

AbstractProfenofos is a type of organophosphate insecticide. The novelty of this study is due to quantitatively analyzing the residues of Profenofos pesticides on cabbage (Brassica oleracea) by the gas chromatography method. This study aims to determine the residual levels of Propenofos pesticides in cabbage. Samples were taken from Palopo City, South Sulawesi, extracted using the QuEChERS method and analyzed with the GC/MS. The research tool was carried out at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory of Muhammadiyah Palopo University. In this study, cabbage extract (Brassica oleracea) was used as a control medium which first underwent three different treatments: cabbage was not washed, cabbage was washed under running water, and cabbage was washed with vegetable washing detergent. The results showed that unwashed cabbage was detected to contain Profenofos pesticide residues with a level of 0.219 mg/kg, cabbage washed with running water was seen to have Profenofos pesticide residues with a group of 0.037 mg/kg, and cabbage washed with vegetable washing detergent was not detected to contain Profenofos pesticide residues. The residual level of this pesticide does not exceed the maximum limit of Profenofos pesticide residue in cabbage (BMR) set by SNI 7313.2008, which is 1mg/kg. In conclusion, it was proven that cabbage samples that had been washed with water had a decrease in pesticide residues, and washing using vegetable washing detergents was shown to have a more significant reduction of pesticide residues. Keywords: Brassica oleracea; Gas chromatography; Profenofos; Pesticide residues.
