Abstract

Mathematical learning is abstract. A learning innovation is needed by considering aspects of daily life so abstract mathematical concepts can be understood by students. Mathematics and culture are two interrelated things, the bridge between the two is called ethnomatematics. The focus of the research is on the 6 main elements of Reyog Tulungagung. This research is a qualitative research with ethnographic approach. The results of research in the form of mathematical ideas which are found based on the physical form of Reyog Tulungagung art elements, including: (1) mathematical ideas in gong, namely circles, arcing curved spaces, volumes of rotating objects, and symmetry; (2) mathematical ideas on the selompret, namely construct curved side spaces, rotating objects volume, and symmetry; (3) mathematical ideas on kenong namely circles, build curved side spaces, and rotary object volumes; (4) mathematical ideas on iker namely lines, circumference of circles, and symmetry; (5) mathematical ideas on dhodhog, that are circles, arcing curves, volume of rotating objects, triangles, and one-to-one correspondence; (6) mathematical ideas on goseng namely counting and arithmetic (addition and multiplication). In addition there is also a mathematical idea of ​​how to play musical instruments, namely repetitive patterns.

Abstract

Critical thinking is an important ability that must be owned by preservice teachers of mathematics, for self competence, provision of pedagogical ability, as well as in mathematicl context. The moment of the emergence of critical thinking ability need to be a special attention by educators in order to be able to design learning which facilitate the development of that critical thinking ability. This article aimed to describe critical thinking profiles of undergraduate preservice teacher mathematics in solving linear pattern problem at level emergent critical thinker. The case study is performed to two undergraduate students of mathematics department at STKIP PGRI Tulungagung who reflect that level in solving linear pattern problem in the paving tiling context. The result of the case study showed that the critical thinking ability of preservice teachers begin emerge on interpretation, analysis, inference, and explanation aspects but still lack on evaluation and self-regulation aspects.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan metakognisi siswa kelas XI IPA dalam penyelesaian masalah matematika berdasarkan langkah-langkah Polya ditinjau dari tingkat kemampuan matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif , sedangkan metode untuk mengumpulkan data antara lain: tes, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa siswa berkemampuan tinggi termasuk dalam tingkat metakognisi semi-reflective use. Ia mampu melaksanakan aktivitas metakognisi (perencanaan, memantauan dan penilaian) dalam empat langkah Polya. Siswa berkemampuan sedang termasuk dalam tingkat metakognisi strategic use, sedangkan siswa berkemampuan rendah termasuk dalam tingkat metakognisi aware use.

Abstract

This research is aimed to describe algebra thinking of the students in solving problems on pattern generalization in terms of cognitive style of visualizer and verbalizer. This descriptive qualitative research is conducted using questionnaire, tests, and interview. The research subjects used were the students of class VII J, 2 students of cognitive visualizer style and 2 students of cognitive verbalizer style. The results shows, visualizer students on pattern seeking can filter information, on pattern recognizing can finding pattern, on generalizing can generalize general rules. While, verbalizer students on on pattern seeking can filter information, on pattern recognizing can not finding pattern, on generalizing can notgeneralize of the problems. So, students have cognitive style visualizer and verbalizer different in algebraic thinking, visualizer students can passing through all three stages on algebraic thinking, while verbalizer students only to stage on pattern seeking. Keywords: algebra thinking, visualizer and verbalizer

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan profil berpikir kreatif siswa kelas XI yang memiliki gaya kognitif sistematis dan intuitif dalam penyelesaian masalah matematika melalui Model Eliciting Activity (MEA). Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 2 kelompok yaitu 2 siswa dari kelompok sistematis dan 2 siswa dari kelompok intuitif yang dipilih berdasarkan tes CSI. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi : tes CSI, MEA Task, rekaman audio-visual dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa profil berpikir kreatif siswa melalui MEA dengan gaya kognitif sistematis yaitu siswa berhenti sejenak untuk mengendapkan pikirannya dan membutuhkan waktu lama untuk memunculkan idenya (inkubasi); siswa mendapatkan ide dari solusi masalah dan menyelesaikan soal secara step by step (iluminasi); pada tahap iluminasi siswa melalui 4 langkah yaitu simplifying siswa menuliskan yang terdapat pada soal dengan kalimat sederhana; abstracting siswa menuliskan permisalan, kalimat matematika, dan rumus yang sesuai dengan permasalahan; computing siswa melakukan proses penghitungan dan jawabannya benar; interpretation siswa membandingkan solusi dengan konteks masalah dan menuliskan kesimpulan dari penyelesaian yang dilakukan. (2) Profil berpikir kreatif siswa melalui MEA dengan gaya kognitif intuitif yaitu siswa mengidentifikasi masalah dengan menuliskan unsur yang diketahui dan ditanyakan (persiapan); siswa berhenti sejenak untuk mengendapkan pikirannya pada tahap iluminasi sehingga dapat memunculkan ide penyelesaian soal (inkubasi); siswa menemukan ide untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang diberikan, menyelesaikan masalah secara sepontan dan menggunakan jalan trial and error, dan menggunakan langkah penyelesaian dengan benar tetapi kurang tepat (iluminasi);
