Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of lactose in Tris extender on theviability of Etawah crossbreed goat spermatozoa which is preserved in the plasma using Prianganram seminal plasma at 3–5oC. Semen was collected using artificial vagina once a week. Freshsemen was divided into four tubes, and centrifuged at 3,000 RPM for 30 min. Supernatant wasremoved and replaced which an equal volume with Priangan ram seminal plasma. Semen in firsttube was diluted with Tris extender-20% egg yolk without lactose (control). Semen in second, third, and fourth tubes were diluted with Tris extender-20% egg yolk and 0.3% (0.3 g per 100 mlextender) (L0.3), 0.6% (L0.6), and 1.2% (L1.2) lactose, respectively. Diluted-semen were stored inrefrigerator at 3–5oC. Quality of diluted-semen including percentages of motile spermatozoa (MS),live spermatozoa (LS), and intact plasma membrane (IPM) were evaluated daily during storage at3–5oC for four days. The data were analyzed by usi analysis of variance (ANOVA). Means werecompared significant difference test at 0.05 significant level. Results of this study showed thatmean volume, colour, consistency, pH, mass activity, spermatozoa concentration, MS, LS,spermatozoa abnormal, and IPM of Etawah crossbreed goat fresh semen were 0.68 ml, cream, thick, 7, ++/+++, 4,148.57 million cell/ml, 70%, 83.89%, 7.12%, and 84%, respectively. Addition oflactose in Tris extender could maintain the quality of semen during preservation. At day-5 ofstorage, the percentages of MS, LS, and IPM for treatment L0.6 (40, 55.6, and 53.8%) weresignificantly (P<0.05) higher than treatment L1.2 (36, 50.2, and 51.8%), treatment L0.3 (34, 51.2,and 48.4%), and control (29, 41.4, and 41.8%). In conclusion, addition of 0.6% lactose in Trisextender is the best dose in maintaining the quality of Etawah crossbreed goat spermatozoa, andcould be maintaining percentage of motile spermatozoa 40% for four days after preserved at 3–5oC.

Abstract

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the prevalence of myiasis in buffalo at Moa island. Data collection was carried out from April to December 2020 using a survey method in 3 villages selected by stratified random sampling. Samples of  98 buffaloes were selected using the detect disease method and taken from four villages. The results showed that the prevalence rate of myiasis in buffalo was 7.14% with details of the prevalence at the village level, namely Tounwawan 9%, Nyama 6%, and Klis 4%. Myiasis was founded in adult buffalo and it was caused by the Chrysomya bezziana. The number of flies per site infestation was 11-23 heads with a duration of 3.09-4.17minutes. The favorable site for oviposition were the neck, back, thighs, and vulva. The predisposing factors that caused the injury were headers, bird pecks, and bush punctures. Maggots had burrowed deep inside causing necrotic cavities, malodorous, and reddish-brown fluid.

Abstract

This purpose of this research is to litter size and mortality of pig farming from different parity sows at the integrated waste management installation site in Ambon City. The research method which is conducted is survey method by doing census technique. Variabels that observed are variable treatment in each respons: a) litter size and b) pre-weaning piglet mortality. The results showed that the parity of different parents had no significant effect on litter size. This indicates that the parity factor does not play an important role in influencing the size of the litter born in the population studied. Piglet mortality rates also showed no significant difference among the parity groups. Thus, the parity of sows in this population had no effect on the survival rate of pre-weaning piglets.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the reproductive performance of pig farmers in Nusaniwe District, Ambon City. The research was carried out in Nusaniwe District, Ambon City, for 1 month using a survey method with interview techniques. The variables observed in the study were livestock ownership, livestock population, and reproductive performance of the parent including the age of the first mating, the age of the first calving, the length of pregnancy, litter size, calving distance, mortality and signs of fertility. The results showed that the average ownership of pigs based on the age phase of starter, grower, finisher and parent was 9.08 heads (0.9 ST), 6.32 heads (1.26 ST), 1.33 heads (0.53 ST) and 3.33 heads (1.33 ST) respectively. The population structure based on sex is dominated by female cattle 60.75%, and male cattle only 39.24%, while based on the level the respective ages of children were 45.15%, young 23.40%, and adults 23.40%. The reproductive performance of sows showed that the average age of first mating was 9.84±1.89 months, the first calving age was 13.98±1.83 months, the gestation duration was 11628±2.93 days, the litter size was 5.56±2.47 heads, the calving distance was 8.95±1.29 months, and the mortality was 0.33%. The signs of birahi that farmers understand are restless and silent when riding 66.2%, not knowing 33.8%. It was concluded that the reproductive performance of sows in Nusaniwe District was good.
