Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the effectivity of lactose or maltose in maintaining theviability of cauda epididymal spermatozoa at Bali cattle when preserved at 3-5 oC. Epididymal spermatozoawere collected by slicing, flashing and pressure of cauda epididymis with normal saline ( 0,9% NaCl). Thecollected spermatozoa were divided in equal volume into three different tubes where each tube was thendiluted with : i) 20 % egg yolk Tris solution (control), ii) 20 % egg yolk Tris solution + 0.6 gram lactose/ 100ml (L 0.6), iii) 20 % egg yolk Tris solution + 0.6 gram maltose/ 100 ml (M 0.6), respectively following this alltubes were kept in a refrigerator at 3-5 oC for six days. The quality of spermatozoa including percentage ofmotility, live, and intact plasma membrane (IPM) were evaluated daily for the six days period. Result atthe study showed that the mean spermatozoa concentration was 11.2 million cells/ml, whilst the mean atpercentage of motility, percentage of live, percentage of abnormality, percentage of cytoplasmic dropletsand percentage of IPM were 75.00%, 86.75%, 10.50%, 14.00% and 86.75%, respectively. At day 7 ofstorage, the percentage of motility, live, and IPM when the spermatozoa were preserved in media containinglactose was 39.00%, 51.40%, and 51.80%, respectively whilst when preserved in media containing maltosewas 38.00%, 49.80% and 52.00%, respectively. The percentage of motility, live and IPM was significantlyhigher (p<0.05) compared to the control. It is therefore concluded that the addition of lactose or maltose inthe preservation media could maintain the quality of the epididymal spermatozoa of Bali cattle.

Abstract

This purpose of this research is to litter size and mortality of pig farming from different parity sows at the integrated waste management installation site in Ambon City. The research method which is conducted is survey method by doing census technique. Variabels that observed are variable treatment in each respons: a) litter size and b) pre-weaning piglet mortality. The results showed that the parity of different parents had no significant effect on litter size. This indicates that the parity factor does not play an important role in influencing the size of the litter born in the population studied. Piglet mortality rates also showed no significant difference among the parity groups. Thus, the parity of sows in this population had no effect on the survival rate of pre-weaning piglets.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of administering doses of PGF2ɑ hormone in regulating estrus synchronization in Kacang goats. The research was conducted in Sohuwe Village with variables including the time of onset of estrus, percentage of estrus, symptoms of estrus, and duration of estrus. In the study, it was found that administering doses of PGF2α hormone at 0.4 ml, 0.6 ml, and 0.8 ml to bean goats resulted in significant differences in the onset and duration of estrus. This indicates different variations in estrus response between the different doses. Estrus symptoms observed in all animals included restlessness, mounting and standing still when mounted, decreased appetite, swelling and redness of the vulva, and the discharge of transparent mucus from the vulva. The estrus percentage reached 100% in all animals. It can be concluded that the doses of PGF2α hormone used are still effective for estrus synchronization in Kacang goats. However, the results indicate that the 0.8 ml dose (P3) had a better influence on the onset and duration of estrus compared to the 0.4 ml (P1) and 0.6 ml (P2) doses. This indicates that the 0.8 ml dose had the most significant effect in regulating estrus in bean goats in the study.

Abstract

Improving the knowledge and skills of school children, especially about raising chickens as a source of animal protein, begins with providing motivation, hard work/business and important basics to them. Raising native chickens has the potential to meet family needs, especially nutrition for children. Animal protein is an essential nutrient that plays an important role in improving children's nutritional status and is a strategic investment for future nutritional health. Protein and fat in meat and eggs can provide the energy needed by children for daily activities. Intensification of native chickens is a government program that has been running since 2000 to increase the population of chickens in order to meet the needs of the community. The general objective is to increase the production of native chickens by identifying superior seeds as males and females. The specific objective is to increase knowledge about the importance of protein, livestock skills, superior native chickens (KUB, Super and Arab). The implementation of community service activities is focused on student groups (teenagers and youth). The results obtained have a positive impact, children's knowledge and skills increase, this can be seen from cooperation in livestock farming. The positive impact of this activity is better chicken livestock production for family needs for meat and eggs, also reducing damage to yard plants and utilization of agricultural waste. The indicator of the success of this activity is around 80% of children who show better attention/response.

Abstract

This activity focuses on increasing the productivity of cattle through counseling and reproductive handling in Negeri Liang, Salahutu District, Central Maluku Regency. Negeri Liang has great agricultural and livestock potential. Among them in the livestock aspect, cattle reproduction has an important role in the economic development of the local community. However, constraints related to reproductive management, reproductive diseases and lack of care are the main obstacles for farmers in improving the productivity and welfare of their livestock. Limited access to information and resources as well as low understanding of effective reproductive management practices have led to a decline in cattle productivity in Negeri Liang. The implementation method included participatory counseling using visual media for 30 farmers, reproductive examination of 25 female cattle, and direct treatment of reproductive disorders. The results showed an 85% increase in farmers' understanding based on pretest and posttest evaluations. Additionally, 60% of treated cows showed estrus signs within two weeks after treatment. In conclusion, this PKM activity successfully enhanced reproductive literacy, provided direct technical solutions for reproductive cases, and produced educational modules that can be sustainably used by the farmers.

Abstract

Raising native chickens is a business that has the potential to meet needs and provide additional family income. This livestock has quite a big role in supporting the community's economy. Free-range chicken farms that are often found in rural areas are generally traditional. Intensification of native chickens is a government activity that has been carried out since 2000 to increase the chicken population to fulfill the community's need for animal protein. The potential of native chickens can be developed by using crossbreeding, maintaining good rearing management, one of which is providing good quality and efficient food by utilizing local regional ingredients that do not compete with human needs. Results of artificial ration treatment with livestock Superior livestock produce better egg production and quality of hatching eggs as well as higher DOC weight up to 3 weeks compared to ordinary native chickens which are reared extensively with regular/traditional feed. For chicken egg production, artificial ration treatment provides better results of 35% and a growth difference of almost 50%. The positive impact of rearing like this is that apart from producing better chickens for the needs of the family/community, it can also reduce damage to yard plants and use of wasted waste.
