Abstract

This researchaims to understand visitors' perceptions of thermal comfort in the Masjid Agung Istiqamah, Tapaktuan. The focus of this research is the aspect of thermal comfort within the mosque, encompassing temperature, humidity, and wind speed, which are measured using a thermohygrometer and an anemometer. Using mixed methods, the study records visitors' responses through observations and qualitative interviews, while quantitative data are obtained from measurements to determine the levels of temperature, humidity, and wind speed in the mosque. A decline in the number of visits to the Agung Istiqamah Mosque in Tapaktuan prompted this research. Thermal comfort is considered inadequate by the visitors. The study results show that the average temperature is around 31.08°C, with humidity at 68.4% RH, and wind speed at 0.35 m/s. The majority of respondents feel hot during the day and suggest improving the cooling system. Although the humidity is deemed comfortable, the wind speed needs to be increased for the comfort of the mosque users. In conclusion, special attention should be given to temperature management, and it is recommended to enhance the cooling system and conduct continuous monitoring to improve comfort in the Agung Istiqamah Mosque.

Abstract

A house as a shelter for the occupantsrequires ventilation, both natural and artificial, to achieve thermal comfort. Openings allow air to circulate in and out of the building, thus affecting the humidity and temperature of the building. The research was located in the Type 36 Mutiara Baet Residence housing complex, in Baet Village, Baitussalam District, Aceh Besar Regency. The case study is a house facing west, east, north, and south which has openings without direct sunlight. Using a mixed method research method, which combines qualitative and quantitative models. Qualitative methods are carried out using documentation, interviews, and observation. while the quantitative method is carried out through measurements of humidity, wind speed, and temperature. Interview results showed that 70% of building occupants said that the residence they lived in felt hot so it was uncomfortable to be indoors without mechanical cooling, while the existing openings could not be maximized for natural ventilation as intended. The remaining 30% of respondents thought that openings could help reduce heat. The results of thermal measurements, the average temperature in the living room was 30.93°C, while the average temperature in the kitchen room was 30.99°C. The results of measuring the average humidity (RH%) in the living room was 46.40% and the average humidity (RH%) in the kitchen room was 46.18%. Only 20% of residential living rooms and kitchens in Mutiara Baet Residence have wind circulation, while in the other 80% of residences, the detected wind speed is 0.0 m/s, which means there is no wind movement/circulation.

Abstract

Instruction in the Electrical Circuits course requires graphical simulations to visualize circuit concepts without the need for physical hardware. The PSIM application module serves as an alternative tool to support simulation-based learning in this course. This study aimed to implement the PSIM application module to improve student learning outcomes and to investigate student responses to its implementation. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. Research instruments consisted of a learning achievement test and a response questionnaire, both validated by experts. The results showed that the average pretest score of 45.23 increased to 69.76 in the posttest. This improvement indicates that the implementation of the PSIM application module contributed to enhanced student learning outcomes. Questionnaire data also revealed a positive student response to the module, with a 79% rating falling into the high category. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PSIM-based learning module was associated with a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes in the Electrical Circuits course within the Electrical Engineering Education Study Program
