Abstract

Background: Cigarettes smokes are a great external source of free radicals. The negative effects of cigarette smoke exposure can be systemic and affect all body systems, including the reproductive. Male rats exposed to cigarette smoke have a risk of oxidative stress and sperm damage. This can be overcome with herbal antioxidants such as white oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus). Objective: This study aimed to examine the protective effect of ethanolic extract of white oyster mushroom against damage to sperm morphology of rats exposed to cigarette smoke. Methods: This study is an experimental study using 40 rats which were divided into 5 groups. Group I (normal control), group II (negative control) were only given exposure of cigarette smoke, Grups III, IV and V (treatments groups 1, 2, and 3) were given exposure of cigarette smoke and ethanolic extract a dose of 125, 250, and 500 mg/Kg BW/day for 14 days. On the 15th day, the percentage normal rat sperm were calculated under a 400x magnification microscope. Results: Normal sperm count in group I was 79% ± 0.79, group II was 39% ± 0.55, Grup III, IV and V were 56% ± 0.15, 65% ± 0.54 and 66% ± 0.21.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged at the end of 2019 and spread worldwide, becoming a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Agents, hosts, and the environment influence disease transmission. Perception influences healthy behavior in preventing disease transmission. This study aims to determine differences in the perception of health care workers (HCWs) on COVID-19 prevention behavior based on the area of work and exposure. This study is a cross-sectional study with a survey method using the health belief model questionnaire with research subjects who were HCWs on duty during the COVID-19 pandemic from May to July 2021 in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital. Statistical tests used were chi-square and Kruskal-Walis tests. From 346 subjects, it was found that the perception of susceptibility and self-efficacy of HCW in the yellow and red zones was higher than in the green zone (p=0.002). In comparison, the perception of barriers in the yellow zone was higher than in the red area (p=0.014). Health care workers had relatively similar mean scores in terms of knowledge (median 7 of 9), perceived benefits (median 27 of 30), cues to action (median 20 of 20), and perceived severity (median 19 of 30). Based on the history of exposure, the parameter of cues to the action of HCWs exposed to COVID-19 was better than those never exposed (p=0.009). HCW of Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital has good knowledge and perception of the prevention of COVID-19. Differences in the perception of HCW between the work area and exposure history require more targeted and specific educational interventions and actions.

Abstract

Abstract. The Covid-19 pandemic that has occurred since 2020 is a catastrophic outbreak experienced by all people in the world, including in Indonesia. One effort to break the chain of spread is by vaccinating. This study aims to determine the comparison of disease free time for Influenza Like Illness based on the number of Covid-19 vaccine boosters. The research subjects were 64 people who were obtained using simple random sampling techniques. This research uses an analytical observational method with a retrospective cohort study approach with survival analysis. The results of this study found that there was a difference in disease free time (P 0.04) between the 1st booster group and the 2nd booster group, where the mean disease free time for the 1st booster group was shorter than the 2nd booster group, the disease free time for the one-time booster group was shorter than the 2nd booster group. booster twice. The group that had never experienced ILI had a median interval between vaccines of 422.4 days while the group that had experienced ILI was 362.5 days. The short time span of the Covid-19 vaccine means that the effectiveness of the vaccine is still high so that it can increase a person's immunity, so that when there is exposure to a virus that attacks a person's body, the frequency and duration of Influenza Like Syndrome is short.

Abstract

Abstract. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by increased glucose levels in the blood. The Indonesian government created a Chronic Disease Management Program or Prolanis. This research uses secondary data in the form of Prolanis attendance lists and lab results. This research uses an analytical observational method with a cross sectional research design. The samples taken were type 2 DM patients who were registered as Prolanis members at the Sekejati Health Center in Bandung City and 58 samples were obtained. The results of this study showed that the majority of patients were compliant in following Prolanis at the Sekejati Health Center in Bandung City (87,20%) but the majority of patients who took Prolanis had uncontrolled fasting blood sugar (74,10%). The results of the analysis test using Fisher exact obtained a p value = 0,323, which means there is no relationship between compliance with Prolanis and blood sugar control in type 2 DM patients who took Prolanis at the Sekejati Community Health Center, Bandung City.

Abstract

Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan pengetahuan tentang COVID-19 tidak memengaruhi persepsi dan perilaku pencegahan penularan COVID-19.Comparison of Perceptions and Behavior of Preventing COVID-19 Transmission between Medical Students of Islamic University of Bandung and Pattimura University MalukuAbstractThe pneumonia outbreak that caused numerous deaths worldwide was first reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020. The transmission of a disease is influenced by agent, host, and environmental factors. Host factors such as knowledge, perception, and behavior are crucial in overcoming a pandemic. Medical students are among the groups most vulnerable to COVID-19 exposure due to their activities that often involve contact with COVID-19 patients. This study aims to compare perceptions and behaviors in preventing COVID-19 transmission between medical students at Bandung Islamic University and Pattimura University, Maluku from September until December 2023. This research uses a cross-sectional design with a health belief model-based questionnaire in electronic form. The data obtained were analyzed using a non-parametric Chi-square test with mean values. There were significant differences in knowledge about COVID-19 between third-year students at Bandung Islamic University and Pattimura University. However, no significant differences were found in perceptions and behaviors regarding COVID-19 prevention regarding perceptions of susceptibility, severity, benefits, barriers, self-confidence, and cues to action. These findings indicate that differences in knowledge about COVID-19 do not affect perceptions and behaviors in preventing its transmission.

Abstract

Effects of Physical Activity Level on Physical Fitness Status in PT X Male WorkersAbstractLow physical activity is one of the causes of conditional disorders that can affect performance and productivity. PT.X. is an educational and training institution that requires the support of security unit personnel who maintain good fitness levels. The study aims to determine the relationship between the level of physical activity of male workers in the security unit and their fitness status. We devised a comprehensive study using an exact Fisher analysis to examine the correlation between physical activity levels and fitness during September 2023. The subject of the study was a male worker employed at PT.X. The Global Physical Activity Questionnaire assessed the subject's physical activity levels. We used the YMCA- 3-minute-step test method to measure physical fitness. The study involved 82 male workers between the ages of 18 and 45. Sixty-one people (74%) were in good shape, and 21 (26%) were not. The analysis results showed no statistical association between mild physical activity (p-value 0.584), moderate physical activity, or heavy physical activity and the physical fitness status of male workers. Aside from physical activity, many other factors can affect physical fitness. Other factors that can affect the physical fitness of male workers require further research.
