Abstract

AbstractTeacher-student relation is the most important component of language teaching.The objective of this study is Nowadays, teaching-learning process is doing by online meeting. Teacher and student can do the activity of class from home. So, based on the background it the purpose of this study is to know how the relation between teacher and student in online class meeting by the perspective of student. The methodology that was used in this research is descriptive qualitative - quantitative methodology conducted that taken 30 college students in English and Literature Department randomly at Universitas Negeri Medan. The data were collected by using a questionnaire in Google Form that was distributed it. This research is containing by various question to know how the teacher-student relation in online class by the perspective of student. The researcher made 13 questions and each question must be answer honestly by respondents.The findings of this study showed that there were the teacher-student relation in online class meeting support well. But, from the data also shown that in some cases the teacher-students relation is not build well such as  online class make the limitation in communicating so the atmosphere of teacher-student relation hardly got, the teacher unreachable through online, There is no trustworthy from teacher to students about internet connection. Based on the findings, the suggestion to this study is the teacher also should treat the student fairly and more understanding.The students also should be more active and participated in online class so that they can be noticed by the teacher.                        Keyword :Teacher-Students Relation, English Teaching, Perspective, Online Class

Abstract

It is often find understanding about the funny story in our society life. Every funny story is often defined as anecdote. In this term, anecdote is pointing to “cerita lelucon” or “konyol”. Most the story are funny because they have unpredictable funny things in the end. All those types of story are often socially called anecdote and they are going on. However, the unpredictable thing in the end of story which is often funny is called twist. This Twist, in term of text type, belongs to spoof. While in the generic structure of anecdote, we can not find the twist. So it might be the funny story which we often hear in our social life and defined as anecdote story is not the the anecdote text in term of text types we are learning. Commonly it is defined spoof and anecdote are similar, even both are same. Spoof and anecdote tend to be defined as text which relate to funny story and unusual incidents. It can be true as both bring the function mostly to entertain and share to readers. Abstract

Poetry is the literature that evokes a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience or a specific emotional response through language chosen and arranged for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. There are feelings, thoughts, and ideas that can be difficult to explain and analyze. Poetry is a kind of language within languages that allows people regardless of age, sex, religion, sexual orientation, and even time eras to communicate with one another. When some people hear the word "Poetry", images of unfathomable scenes, words and phrases come to mind. Poetry explication is needed to describe the possible meanings and relationships of the words, images, and other small units that make up a poem. Writing an explication is an effective way for a reader to connect a poem’s plot and conflicts with its structural features. Since each poem is unique, there is no one way of going about this, butt the elements of analyzing poetry;  to identify the meaning through its parts, give a sense of interpreting a poem: (1) Examine the structure of the poem, And (2) Examine the pattern of the poem. Key words: Explicating Poetry, Meaning of a poem.

Abstract

The rapid development of internet technology and penetrated to all corners of the world has been utilized by various countries, institutions, and experts for various interests including for the education world. Until now, the internet became a necessity for the world of education. Internet is a giant library of the world, because in the internet there are billions of information resources, so we can use the information according to the needs. Internet allowed students study independently. Students can access online from various libraries, museums, databases, and get a primary source of various historical events, biographies, recordings, reports, statistical data. Internet conditioned students to study independently. Students can access online from various libraries, museums, databases, and get a primary source of various historical events, biographies, recordings, reports, statistical data. Students can act as a researcher, not just information consumers only. Information is analyzed according to their learning and conduct searches that match real life. E-Learning is one of the systems or educational concepts that utilize information technology in the teaching and learning process. Students and teachers do not need to be physically present in class, as students can learn teaching materials and work on learning and exam assignments by accessing a computer network that has been set up online. Key words: Role, Internet, Learning

Abstract

Abstract  The purpose of this study is find out the teacher's perspective toward students’ ethics in online classrooms based on four principles of ethics. In this study, researcher elaborate and describe the data  by using qualitative research method and data collection techniques in the form of interviews and questionnaire. The results of this study show 53% of respondent agree that students has a great confidentiality. It means that students be able to keep their individual work in original term and do not do plagiarism or cheated with their friends. Then, 55% of respondent is agree that their students has a good responsibility in online classroom. In the term of conflict of interest, teacher judge that students can’t prioritize the learning process in online classroom. From the result of questionnaire, 45% respondent said that most of students can’t give their attention and prepare their selves to online classroom. The last is honesty. From the result, there are 43% respondent that choose don’t agree that their students has a sense of honesty. The result that was gathered from interview and questionnaire show the similiar result. Both of those result show that teachers’ assess that their students has a good confidentiality. It is because students be able to collect their task by theirselves which mean they have a good confidentiality. Students has a good responsibility, keep the politeness and manner in online classroom, such as joining the class on time and collect their task on time. But in term of conflict of interest, students don’t give all of their attention to class, can’t keep their focus to class because of some disturbance from their environment. Some of students also don’t prepare a supportable facilities to online classroom so they can’t join the class. Students also don’t prepare their appearance as neat as in the offline classroom. Teachers also state that their students still do copy paste from internet and their friend’s task. It means they are lack of honesty.Keywords: Ethic, Perspective, Students, Teacher

Abstract

AbstractTheme is the main idea or thought in writing. Meanwhile character is the actor who experiences events and problems in the story or fiction so that the event become an interesting story. There is a close relationship between theme and character in story.The purpose of this study is to describe: (1) the relationship between theme and character through feelings, (2) the relationship between theme and character through thoughts, and (3) the relationship between theme and character through action. This study used a qualitative approach. The method used is descriptive analysis. Types of data were in the form of sentences, phrases, and paragraphs related to the character's feelings, character's thoughts, and character's actions. Inside Out is an American animated film produced by Disney Pixar about emotional instability of 11 year old girl. Conclusion, in this study, the theme that is influenced by feelings is dominated by the egoic theme. The theme which is influenced by the most dominating thought is the physical theme, and the theme which is influenced by action is dominated by organic theme.Keywords: Relationship of Theme, Character, Fiction

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the types of impoliteness strategies based on Jonathan Culpeper theory, and how is the used of impoliteness strategies posted by the netizen. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data were taken from comments column posted by netizens of Nissa Sabyan Instagram Account. The technique for analyzing the data is qualitative research.  The results of this research showed that there are four impoliteness are used, which are Bald on Record, Positive Impoliteness, Negative Impoliteness, and Sarcasm/Mock Politeness. There were 50 comments. In total there are 6 comments on Bald on Record (12%), 20 comments on Positive Impoliteness (40%), 18 comments on Negative Impoliteness (36%) and 6 comments on Sarcasm/Mock Politeness (12%). Based on the comments that have been analyzed, The researcher concluded that how is the used of Impoliteness Strategies, First, the writer found that the netizens mostly used positive impoliteness and negative impoliteness strategies to express their negative attitude on giving online comments of Nissa Sabyan Instagram Account. The reason could be, that in comparison to other strategies, these have a large number of sub-strategies that support positive and negative impoliteness strategies, such as ignore, uncaring, seek disagreement, scorn, ridicule the other, frighten, and so on.

Abstract

This study deals with feminism in patriarchal society based on the main character in anthology of short story named Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine. This research used qualitative descriptive as the method. The data of this study were dialogue and narratives that appeared in the story. The data was analyzed using Hannam’s (2007) theory. It was found that there are three definition of feminism found in the data, they are: 1) Recognition of imbalance power" found 11 data; 2) women's condition is a social construct found 8 data; 3) emphasizes women's autonomy found 5 data. From the data found, it can be seen that recognition of imbalance power is the definition of feminism that is most often found in these short stories. It shows that there is indeed a big difference in power and authority between men and women. The main characters in these stories also try to help, protect, and support other woman as their way to fight the patriarchy that already ingrained in society.

Abstract

Digital literacy is becoming a crucial skill for managing information effectively and credibly in the digital era. Podcasts, as an increasingly popular audio medium, have significant potential to enhance students' digital literacy. This study aims to analyze the need for podcasts as a medium to improve digital literacy among 20 English Education students through a qualitative case study. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed qualitatively. The results show that most respondents are familiar with podcasts and consider them important for digital literacy. Although the majority have never created a podcast, they expressed a need for training. Almost all respondents reported an increase in digital literacy after listening to educational podcasts. The main obstacles in podcast production include a lack of interest, technical knowledge, and limited resources. In conclusion, podcasts have significant potential to enhance students' digital literacy. Integrating podcasts into higher education can enrich the learning experience and develop critical skills in managing digital information. Further research is needed to measure the broader impact of podcasts and to develop integrated podcasts in higher education, as well as to provide training to improve podcast production quality. Comparative studies between types of podcast content and the long-term impact of podcasts on students' digital literacy and professional readiness are also necessary.
