Abstract

Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus is the disease which causes premature mortality, and the leading cause of blindness, heart disease, and kidney failure in the world with increasing prevalance. Exercise is fundamental in Diabetes Mellitus management which functions to improve insulin sensitivity and control blood glucose level. A number of studies have been carried out to explore the effect of aerobic exercises on blood glucose level among patients with type-2 Diabetes Mellitus. The research aimed to evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise’s type, frequency, intensity and duration on blood glucose level among patients with type-2 Diabetes Mellitus. This study was systematic review. The literature searches were specified from 2005-2020 through Pubmed and Google Scholar. 40 studies in total based on specific criteria was included to this study. Thirty-nine out of forty studies revealed that a variety of aerobic exercises such as walking, gymnastic (diabetic, aerobic, foot, ergonomic), step test as well as static cycling give impact on lowering blood glucose level. Seventeen out of forty studies fulfilling the criteria of frequency, duration and intensity showed that exercise helps reduce blood glucose level. In conclusion, performing aerobic exercise regularly and appropriately helps to lower blood glucose level among patients with type-2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

Retinal vein occlusion is the second most common cause of blindness in retinal vascular disease after diabetic retinopathy and may lead to complications of macular edema. Bevacizumab is an influential treatment as an anti vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This study aims to determine the difference of visual acuity and macular thickness before and after treatment of Bevacizumab. This is a quasi experimental study in patients with secondary macular edema retinal vein occlusion who meets the inclusion criteria. Visual acuity and macular thickness were evaluated after one month of treatment. This study was conducted for two months since May-June 2017 by collecting secondary data from medical record at SMEC Samarinda from January 2016 – June 2017. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon. Sixteen eyes from 16 patients were diagnosed with macular edema secondary retinal vein occlusion given bevacizumab treatment. The mean visual acuity before therapy was 1.106 LogMAR ± 0.509 and increased to 0.889 logMAR ± 0.608 (p = 0.116) after treatment while the mean macular thickness before therapy was 504.06 μm ± 301.273 and decreased to 348.81 μm ± 181.17 (p = 0.017) after treatment. There was a significant effect on the decrease in macular thickness but no significant effect on visual acuity improvement in patients with macular edema secondary retinal vein occlusion at SMEC Samarinda. Keywords: Retinal vein occlusion, macular edema, bevacizumab

Abstract

Abstract: Wound care is a measure needed to prevent further damage of a disconnected tissue. Knowledge of wound care is needed by everyone, especially the age group of children who are prone to injuries, such as abrasions caused by physical activity. Understanding of wound care and environmental hygiene management is still low in the community, including among children. This is due to a lack of education regarding the importance of this matter. The purpose of this activity are to increase the knowledge and skills of wound care as well as increasing awareness of environmental hygiene. This activity was held at SDN 014 Desa Sungai Bawang on May 27, 2023. This activity was carried out by pre-test, presenting material, practice, and post-test done to students of 1st-6th grade at SDN 014 Sungai Bawang totalling to 53 participants. It was obtained that the average pre-test score was 83,49 ± 20,33 and the average post-test score was 87,97± 16,25. The statistical results of Wilcoxon Rank Test shows the p value = 0,041 (p < 0,05) informs that there is a difference in knowledge about wound care and environmental hygiene before and after the training. Based on this research, we suggest to related parties, such as education providers in schools, especially elementary schools, to hold similar training and education and combine several methods such as lectures, discussions and simulations to provide better results for students' understanding and skills.
