Abstract

This study discusses the political participation of women workers in The Chemical, Energy and Mining Trade Unions of the All Indonesia Workers Union (SP KEP-SPSI). Using qualitative methods, this paper uses theories of women’s political participation, understanding sex and gender, and explaining socialist feminism as bases of analysis. This research tries to answer two issues namely how the involvement of women workers in the union in the SP KEP-SPSI and why the involvement of women in the union is important. The conclusion of this study is that the political participation of women workers in SP KEP-SPSI has not been actively involved enough in trade unions. Their membership is still very minimal with the indicator that there are only 4 female workers from 46 officials in the structure. However, SP KEP-SPSI has tried to facilitate the involvement of women workers with an indication of the inclusion of a clause on the involvement of women in the Statutes / Statutes of the Union. The involvement of women workers is important in unions, because it signifies a form of active political participation of citizens and is related to the struggle for the rights of women workers.

Abstract

Women have an important role in politics, where their representation becomes a role model for other women. PAN and PKB are the two parties that won quite a large number of votes in the 2019 elections. However, the percentage of elected women legislators from these two parties does not represent the fulfillment of the 30% quota. This paper analyzes the strategy for selecting women members of PAN and PKB in the 2019 elections, using qualitative research methods. Through interviews and literature searches in the form of books and journals as well as other supporting references, this research yielded several important results. The results of this study indicate that there is a use of resources and funding by women legislators as part of the campaign. As for the differences in the strategy for electing women legislators between the two parties, that PAN women are more on the use of personal social networks and not through ‘Aisyiyah and PUAN. This is different from the PKB, in which elected women legislators use social and political capital from their involvement in Fatayat NU and women of the nation. The supporting factors for the election of both were due to the socio-political capital possessed and the figure of a female legislature member. While the inhibiting factors come from the patriarchal perspective of society as well as competition with male and female legislative candidates, both from the same party and not.

Abstract

Abstract. The phenomenon of violence in democratic countries such as Indonesia introduced a new angle in contextualizing modern Islamic political thought. The argument of mainstreaming fasad (violence or conflict) and islah (reconciliation) embedded in Islamic political thought preached by Azyumardi Azra as a part of the moderate Islam project (Islam wasathiyah) is considered a democratization process. This article seeks to examine Azyumardi Azra's thoughts in interpreting the concept of moderate Islam in the context of Indonesia's democratization, particularly regarding non-violence and social harmony. This article uses an interdisciplinary approach combining the interpretation of Islamic political thought, Middle-path political theory, and democratization analysis. It examines the Islamic revitalization formulating an anti-violence stance mainstreamed by Azyumardi that mediates the absolutist dogmatic beliefs and extremist political streams inciting violence. Finally, this article demonstrates how political thought embedded in Islam mainstreamed by Azyumardi benefits to strengthening democratization in Indonesia, moving away from violence. Keywords: Democratization, Middle-path Politics, Anti-violence, Revitalization of Islam, Wasatiyyah Islam.Abstrak.
