Abstract

AbstrakAspek Duratif dan Kesekejapan dalam Bahasa  Prancis (BP) dan Terjemahannya dalam Bahasa Indonesia (BI). Penelitian ini berfokus pada aspek duratif dan kesekejapan dalam Bahasa  Prancis (BP) dan terjemahannya dalam Bahasa Indonesia (BI). Penelitian ini menarik untuk dilakukan mengingat perbedaan kaidah bahasa antara BP dan BI dalam pengungkapan aspek. Aspek dalam BP dapat diungkapkan dengan lima cara yang berbeda, baik secara gramatikal maupun secara leksikal. Adapun dalam BI, aspek dinyatakan secara morfologis dengan mengunakan kata bantu. Penelitian bertujuan menemukan bentuk aspek duratif dan kesekejapan yang diungkapkan secara verbal dan leksikal dalam BP dan padanannya dalam BI, serta faktor yang mempengaruhi pemilihan teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam penerjemahan aspek tersebut. Data utama yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Les Chants de L’ile à Dormir Debout: Le Livre de Centhini dan terjemahan dalam BI. Penelitian kualitatif ini dilakuan dengan metode pustaka dengan teknik catat sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Analisis data dilakukan dengan metode komparatif. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aspek duratif dan kesekejapan dalam BP sebagai bahasa sumber (Bsu) yang diungkapkan oleh verba tidak selalu muncul  keaspekannya dalam terjemahan teks BI sebagai bahasa sasaran (Bsa); keterangan waktu digunakan dalam BI untuk menyatakan aspek kesekejapan BP yang diungkapkan secara leksikal. Teknik penerjemahan yang dipergunakan dalam penerjemahan dipengaruhi oleh perbedaan sistem bahasa BP dan BI, serta situasi budaya yang melatari cerita novel.Kata kunci: Aspek duratif, aspek kesekejapan, Bahasa Prancis, Bahasa Indonesia,      teknik terjemahanAbstractDurative and Punctuality Aspects in French and their Translation into Indonesian. This study focuses on the durative and punctuality aspects in French and how these aspects are translated into Indonesian. This study is of interest due to the different of language systems between French and Indonesian in tagging aspect. Aspect in French could be performed in several ways, while in Indonesian, aspect is expressed morphologically using lexis. The objectives of this study are to investigate the form of durative and punctuality aspects reflected in the verbal tenses and adverbial of time in French as SL  and their translation into Indonesian as TL , and to discover the factors that influence the global choice of translation technique used in translating these aspects. The primary data of this study is a French novel, entitled Les Chants de L’ile à Dormir Debout: Le Livre de Centhini, and its Indonesian translation. This qualitative research is supported by a library method, with a noting technique as a technique of data gathering. The data is analyzed by using a comparative method. This study shows that the meaning of durative and punctuality aspects in French in verbal tenses cannot be always seen in the translation texts; adverbial of time as the marker of punctuality aspect is translated equivalently by using lexical words or adverbials to transfer the meaning. Moreover,  the translation techniques used were influenced by the different language systems of French and Indonesian and by the cultural situation of the story of the novel.Keywords: Durative aspect, punctuality aspect, French, Indonesian, translation technique

Abstract

Bujang Ganong is a traditional dance of Ponorogo. This traditional dance is a part of Reog dance performance. In general, it portrays a story of a prime minister of a kingdom who is agile, clever, and humorous yet really powerful. The movements of Bujang Ganong dance are nimble, funny, and acrobatic. This study discusses the movements of Bujang Ganong after being homogenized in 1992, and finds out the differences between Bujang Ganong dance with National Reog Festival style and Obyok style. The writer did library research and interview’s data. The results show that after the homogenization in 1992, there are nine basic movements of Bujang Ganong dance which are still used and performed these days. Furthermore, the performance of Bujang Ganong with National Reog Festival style depicts the character of Bujang Ganong in the Bantarangin version, and the dancers barely have a chance to improvise the choreography. Meanwhile, Bujang Ganong with Obyok style is depicted more as such an entertainment with a great sense of humor.

Abstract

One of the processes that should be taken in the process of translation is reviewing the translation. This step must be taken before a translation product becomes the final text of the translation. In that process, peer feedback is needed. This article is research about the use of peer feedback in the process of reviewing student translations. The research was qualitative research. It was conducted based on the activities of a translation class in STBA LIA Yogyakarta. The research aims to see whether there is an improvement in the final results of student translations on their translation products based on their peer feedback. In this research, students are asked to translate some Indonesian texts into English. The translation then was given some comments and suggestions by their peers before they revised the translation to be the final product. The data were taken based on the students’ translation products. The peer feedback and Componential analysis theory are used as the basis of analysis in this research data analysis. The results showed that peer feedback could not be used as a basis for improving translation results due to the same difficulties among peers themselves over problems in the process of selecting and restructuring translating text from Indonesian as a source language to English as a target language. The role of the lecturer in this matter is still needed in Translation Class at STBA LIA Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Debating what works can be included in the study of Asian literature has given us difficult yet interesting discussion. This paper aims at comparing and contrasting the three literary works to propose what should be included in the consideration of which work should be included in the study of Asian literature. The three texts are selected as to meet the three differences: the first work is written by Asian writer and originally written in English; the second work is written by Asian writer but translated into English; and the third work is written by non-Asian writer but uses Asian setting. The methods applied in the research are the library research as the method for collecting the data, and the descriptive analytical method as the method of analyzing the data. Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Remains of the Day (1989) which has won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction tells a story of a very dedicated English buttler named Stevens. It does not present Japanese story nor setting. Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood (1987) presents us Japanese story of Toru Watanabe and his love relationships with Naoko and Midori with the Japanese setting. David Mitchell’s Number9dream (2001) presents us the experience of Eiji Miyake’s search of his father in Japan. The considerations for a work to be eligible as part of Asian literature should first go with the story and the theme of the work, then with the original language of the novel and finally the background of the author. As a conclusion, among these three works, I propose that Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood is best representing Japanese literature.

Abstract

Language and social interaction are in accordance with the existing norms in society. By paying attention to these norms, we are expected to also pay attention to the choice of words that will be used in communication. In informal situations, swearing words are often used to respond to conversations on many social networks. One of them is Twitter. The phenomenon of using swearing words is found on the Twitter account called @gitlost or Developers Swearing. The research attempts to identify and describe the type and function of swear words used in that account. In collecting data, swear words were collected by observing all tweets according to a predetermined time span, then classified to find out the types of swear words and the function of swear words used based on the theory of Ronald Wardhaugh and Lars‐Gubbar Andersson and Richard Hirsch. The results of this study indicate that swear words are used to express feelings. Swear words are not only used to express anger but also happiness. This research shows that swear words are used based on their functions as expletive, abusive, humoristic, and chronic.

Abstract

Translating children's songs from English to Indonesian involves more aspects of the translation process. It requires cultural adjustment and adaptation to suit the local context and target audience. Qualitative study and comparative method were used to reveal the word choices and translation procedures used in translating the soundtrack of the animated children's movie, My Little Pony into Indonesian. This study aims to find the appropriate translation procedures used to maintain the meaning and message contained in the songs of My Little Pony movie as SL into its translation in Indonesian song version. This study found that there was a distortion of meaning in the translation of the SL song lyrics into the TL. Meanwhile, the cultural adaptation in diction and context was used to maintain the meaning and message contained in the song and can be well understood by children as the main target audience of the animated film. The equivalent meaning is obtained by maintaining and paying attention to the context of the SL song sentences/lyrics in the TL song lyrics. By maintaining the context, the meaning of the SL song lyrics is well conveyed in the TL song lyrics.
