Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of binahong leaves extract (BLE) on Cavia cobaya through the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, pack cell volume (PCV) and erythrocyte indices. Complete Random Design (CRD) was used in this study with 4 treatment and 4 replicate, those were T0 (control), T1 (10 mg / head / body weight), T2 (50 mg / head / body weight) and T3 (90 mg / head / weight). The administration of BLE was orally for 10 days pre partum and 10 days postpartum. Blood sampling was done three times, which wasbefore giving BLE , 1 day postpartum and 1 day after the giving of BLE. Data was analyzed using ANOVA and if there was effect of treatment, then continued with Duncan multiple range test. There was not significantly different among treatments for PCV before giving BLE, while the postpartum and post giving BLE showed significantly different (P<0.05). There was not significantl different in the percentage of Hb among treatments for postpartum while in before giving BLE and post giving BLE were showed significantly different (P<0.05). Total erythrocytes was not significantly difference among treatments for before giving BLE while in the postpartum and post giving BLE significantly different (P <0.05). MCHC value was not significantly different between treatments which was before giving BLE and post giving BLE while in the postpartum was showedsignificantly different (P<0.05). MCV and MCH values were not significantly different between treatments before giving BLE while in the postpartum and post giving BLE significantly different (P <0.05). In conclusion, giving BLE at a dose of 50 mg/head/body weight can improve immunity and endurance Cavia cobaya on the treatment group before giving BLE, postpartum and post giving BLE of PCV, Hb, total erythrocytes, MCHC, MCV and MCH.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the toxic effect of Anredera cordifolia leaf extract on the Cavia cobaya liver which was evaluated by the histopathological examination of liver tissue. The materials used were 8 female guinea pigs 2.5 months old that were divided into 4 groups by simple random sampling, each treatment was given to 2 female C. cobaya. Treatments given were 0, 10, 50 and 90 mg of A. cordifolia leaf extract/head, designated as T0, T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Materials were given treatment daily as long as 10 days prepartum. All of the guinea pigs were slaughtered at day 11, and the liver were taken to examined their histopathological changes. Each of the liver tissues were processed by paraffin block-embedded and hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining method. The results of this study indicate the presence of albuminosa degeneration or mild degeneration (DH +) from group control and hydropic degeneration or moderate degeneration (DH ++) in all treatment groups and the weight of C. cobaya liver which was given an extract of A. cordifolia 50 mg/head was not significantly different from the control but was significantly different from 10 and 90 mg/head. The conclusion was Binahong's (A. cordifolia) leaves extract up to the dosage 90 mg/head had no significantly toxicity effect on the liver of guinea pigs (C. cobaya).

Abstract

Binahong (Anredera cordifolia) leaf extract has a benifficial function as an antimicrobial, heals topical wounds and accelerates the appearance of postpartum estrus. The purpose of this study was to analyze the histophatology and toxicity of ovarian, uterine, and kidney of guinea pig (Cavia cobaya) given A. cordifolia leaf extract. A total of eight females of C. cobaya were used in study, weighing ± 425 g. Treatments were given 0, 10, 50 and 90 mg of A. cordifolia leaf extract/ head, designated as T0, T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Two females were subjected for each treatment. Leaf extract of A. cordifolia was administered orally for 10 days prepartum. Observation consisted of ovarian histopathology, uterus (amount of inflammation and edema) and toxicity of kidney organs. The data obtained was analyzed by using univariate method and descriptively. The results showed there were no damage found on ovarian histology. The fastest follicular growth was found on guinea pigs treated with the dose of 50 mg of A. cardifolia/head. The inflammatory cells found in the uterus treated with 50 mg/head of A. cordifolia leaf extract were four types of inflammatory cells, at least compared to the doses of 0, 10 and 90 mg/head. Total edema in the myometrium and endometrium showed a score of 1 and 0, respectively. The dose of A. cordifolia leaf extract of 10 to 50 mg/head secured for kidney compared to a dose of 0 and 90 mg/head with glomerulonephritis and nephritis. The best treatment to accelerate follicular development, reduce inflammation and not toxic was the treatment of A. cordifolia leaf extract of 50 mg/head orally.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh bentuk skrotum terhadap kadar follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) dan testosteron pada kambing Kejobong. Materi yang digunakan adalah kambing Kejobong jantan sebanyak 22 ekor, pita ukur, jangka sorong, spuit, tabung vacutainer no additive, centrifuge, effendorf, kulkas, dan coolbox.  Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian adalah observasional, yaitu mengamati secara langsung bentuk skrotum ternak, mengukur skrotum dan testis, dan mengambil sampel darah. Sampel darah dianalisis untuk mengetahui kadar hormon menggunakan metode ELISA. Parameter yang diukur yaitu bentuk scrotal bipartition, kadar follicle stimulating hormone dan testosteron. Perbedaaan respon dari bentuk skrotum terhadap kadar hormon FSH dan testosteron dianalisis menggunakan uji-t pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua bentuk skrotum pada kambing Kejobong, yaitu bentuk A (no bipartition) dan bentuk B (bipartition ≤50%). Kadar FSH kambing Kejobong pada bentuk skrotum A (no bipartition) adalah 6,4787±2,0534 ng/mL dan pada bentuk skrotum B (bipartition ≤50%) adalah 6,0134±2,5628 ng/mL, sementara kadar testosteron bentuk skrotum A adalah 6,1617±5,9590 ng/mL dan pada bentuk skrotum B adalah 5,9512±5,6204 ng/mL. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah tidak ada perbedaan respon kadar FSH maupun testosteron berdasarkan bentuk skrotum.Kata Kunci: kambing Kejobong, bentuk skrotum, kadar follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), dan testosteron.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh bentuk skrotum terhadap kadar Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) dan testosteron pada kambing Kejobong. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kambing Kejobong jantan sebanyak 18 ekor (11 ekor bentuk skrotum A dan 7 ekor bentuk skrotum B), alat yang digunakan adalah pita ukur, jangka sorong, spuit, tabung vacutainer no additive, tabung Effendorf, kulkas, dan cool box. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian adalah observasional, yaitu mengamati secara langsung bentuk skrotum ternak, mengukur panjang, lebar dan lingkar skrotum, mengukur lebar dan lingkar testis, dan mengambil sampel darah pada vena jugularis. Sampel darah dianalisis untuk diukur kadar hormon menggunakan metode Enzym Immunoassay (EIA), EIA Test Kit dengan Catalog Number : 4S00055 digunakan untuk analisa FSH dan EIA Test Kit dengan Catalog Number : 4S00072 dari General Biologicals Corp (GBC) digunakan untuk analisa testosteron. Parameter yang diukur yaitu bentuk scrotal bipartition, kadar follicle stimulating hormone dan testosteron. Perbedaaan respon dari bentuk skrotum terhadap kadar hormon FSH dan testosteron dianalisis menggunakan uji-t pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada dua bentuk skrotum pada kambing Kejobong, yaitu bentuk skrotum A (no bipartition) dan bentuk skrotum B (bipartition <50%).  Pada bentuk skrotum A, nilai rata-rata lingkar skrotum bagian kanan adalah 14,1 ± 2,8 cm dan bagian kiri 13,9 ± 2,3 cm. Nilai rata-rata lebar testis bagian kanan adalah 3,5 ± 0,3 cm dan bagian kiri memiliki lebar 3,5 ± 0,4 cm. Pada bentuk skrotum B, nilai rata-rata lingkar skrotum bagian kanan adalah 13,3 ± 1,2 cm dan bagian kiri 13,7 ± 1,9 cm. Nilai rata-rata lebar testis kanan adalah 3,2 ± 0,3 cm dan bagian kiri 3,4 ± 0,2 cm. Nilai kadar FSH pada skrotum A yaitu 1,8113 ± 0,4115 mIU/ml dan kadar pada skrotum B yaitu 1,6490 ± 0,6756 mIU/ml. Kadar testosteron pada skrotum A 0,9841 ± 0,6212 ng/ml dan pada skrotum B yaitu 0,6925 ± 1,5537 ng/ml. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan bahwa bentuk skrotum tidak berpengaruh (P>5%) terhadap kadar FSH maupun testosteron.Simpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah bentuk skrotum pada kambing Kejobong tidak mempengaruhi kadar FSH maupun testosteron.Kata kunci: kambing Kejobong, bentuk skrotum, follicle stimulating hormone, testosteron.

Abstract

Objective: The aims of this research was known comparison the appearance of aggressive behavior of male Timor deers reared in maintaining females and territories at captivity, between the time of day time (diurnal) and night phase (nocturnal) seen from the duration, frequency, sequence and interval aggresive behavior.Methods: This observational research used the observation focal animal sampling method, by directly observing the aggressive behavior of 4 male Timor deers in a good condition, have hard antlers and maintained at location with the same management and conditions. The duration of observations was 24 hours and carried out for 7 days. The parameters observed included the duration, frequency and interval of aggressive behavior male Timor deers. The data analysis used was the non-parametric statistical test Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.Results: The results showed that there were significant differences in the four aggressive behavior of Timor deers at day time and nocturnal phase (P <0.20) and the observations showed that the duration and frequency of aggressive behavior Timor deers such as wallowing, walking with head up, shouting, rubbing antlers, threatening, running away and climbing more frequently and for longer periods was shown during the day time (diurnal).Conclusions: Difference time between day time (diurnal) and night phases (nocturnal) causes the duration and frequency aggressive behavior of Timor deers, was longer and more frequent during the day time.

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this research was to determine the appearance of reproduction behavior, fresh semen quality and amount of frozen semen production based on different age of Simmental bulls.Methods: The material was used 15 Simmental Bulls with average of body weight 822,2 ± 86,53 kg and CV 10,53%. Material divided into 3 groups; age <4 years (T1), age 4-6 years (T2) and age >6 years (T3). The appearance of reproduction behavior (duration, interval, frequency), duration semen collection, fresh semen quality and frozen semen production. Kruskall Wallis test was used in study and followed by mann Withney U-test when data is a significant.Results: The result showed that the non-parametric statistical results of the Mann Whitney U-Test was significantly different (P<0,05) specifically duration of kissing T1 (0 second); T2 (0 second); T3 (2,90 second), interval of mounting T1 (43,19 ± 8,98 second); T2 (51,31 ± 11,07 second); T3 (87,42 ± 13,74 second), duration semen collection T1 (197,21 ± 11,68 second); T2 (207,35 ± 42,33 second); T3 (361,51 ± 39,94 second), and mass motility T1 (2,6 ± 0,20); T2 (2,84 ± 0,15); T3 (2,28 ± 0,35) in Simmental bulls of different age. Conclusions: Decreasing libido and the quality from the Bulls occured at >6 years old. The productive age of excellent bulls is at the age of 4-6 years by displaying the best libido display and optimal sperm quality and frozen semen production.

Abstract

Objective: The aims of this research were to observe the effect of mung bean sprouts to the estrous performance (onset, vulva condition, cervical mucus, behavior, pH of cervical mucus and spinnbarkeit) and length of the estrous on Simmental grade cow.Methods: The materials used in this study were 12 Simmental grade cow with characteristics aged 3 – 4 years, average of weights 399.51 ± 29.97kg, BCS 3 – 4, had normal estrous cycle and had parturition minimum one. The cow were divided into 4 groups; control without mung bean sprouts addition (T0), 250g mung bean sprouts (T1), 375g mung bean sprouts (T2) and 500g mung bean sprouts (T3). The cow was given mung bean sprout during 7 days before estrous. Data of onset, vulva condition, cervical mucus, behaviour, pH of cervical mucus and spinnbarkeit) and length of the estrous analyzed with non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis H test significancy 5% using software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) versi 20.Results: The result showed that estrous performance (onset estrous, vulva condition, cervical mucus, behaviour, pH of cervical mucus, spinnbarkeit) and length of the estrous with mung bean sprout addition were non significantly different on Simmental grade cow.Conclusions: According to non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis H test adding mung bean sprouts given the same effect with control.

Abstract

(Health evaluation of dairy cows)ABSTRACT. This study was conducted to evaluate the health status of dairy cows in dairy barn of Animal and Agricultural Sciences Faculty, Diponegoro University. Physiological status such as rectal temperature, arterial pulse and respiratory rate were evaluated. Samples collected were feces, urine and roughage. The feces samples were analyzed using Witchlock method, the grass samples were analyzed using sedimentation method and the urine samples were observed under microscope after centrifugation at 1500 rpm. The result was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The result showed from the examination of physiology (heifer, pregnant cow and lactating cow) that the average of pulses rate was ranged respectively between 53-60 times/minutes, 53,6-55,5 times/minutes dan 55,1-58,8 times/minutes. Breath frequency was ranged between 17,1-18,1 times/minutes, 18-18,3 times/minutes and 16-17 times/minutes and rectal temperature was ranged between 38,3-38,5oC, 38,5-38,6oC dan 38,4-38,5oC. Although, there was found endoparasites of nematoda in feces, crystal (calcium oxalate monohydrate and dihydrate, struvite) in urine, and ectoparasites of ixodidae in grass but then all dairy cows evaluated during research indicated physiologically health. In conclusion : all dairy cows were physiologically health. Future examination, sanitation and treatments should be conducted to maintain the animals health.
