Abstract

Written exam is the format most often used to assess the extent of student learning achievement. The advantages of written exam are more easily prepared and relatively more economical when compared with clinical examination test. Block’s written exam, especially on disaster management block is considered important because it will illustrate the students' competence at the end of this special block. This study is a qualitative research, aimed to evaluate the quality of test on disaster management block.  The quality of the test were evaluated using qualitative method by deep interviewing 5 criteria of students.  The result was analized using Miles and Huberman method and the themes emerged were: 1) The test item in disaster management block were fairly easy 2) Test items were in accordance with the competence of undergraduate, 3) The test item were congruent with the content material taught in this block.  However, there were some weaknesses, including: 1) There were repeated items, 2)  There were format of question that complicates matters without a clear purpose, 3) There were ‘easy to predict’ item questions, 4) Lack of variation of format.  These problems might cause low discriminant items.  Recommendation including continues improvement of item developers’ capability by integrate it within curriculum for faculty development programs

Abstract

Dalam kehidupan sosial manusia, di mana saja dan kapan saja, tidak pernah lepas dari apa yang disebut “konflik” (Chandra, 1992; Lauer, 1993). Istilah “konflik” secara etimologis berasal dari bahasa Latin “con” yang berarti bersama dan “fligere” yang berarti benturan atau tabrakan. Dengan demikian “konflik” dalam kehidupan sosial berarti benturan kepentingan, keinginan, pendapat, dan lain-lain yang paling tidak melibatkan dua pihak atau lebih. William Chang (2001) mempertanyakan “benarkah konflik sosial hanya berakar pada ketidakpuasan batin, kecemburuan, iri hati, kebencian, masalah perut, masalah tanah, masalah tempat tinggal, masalah pekerjaan, masalah uang, dan masalah kekuasaan?”, ternyata jawabnya “tidak”; dan dinyatakan oleh Chang bahwa emosi manusia sesaat pun dapat memicu terjadinya konflik sosial. Dalam International Encyclopaedia of The Social Sciences Vol. 3 (halaman 236-241) diuraikan mengenai pengertian konflik dari aspek antropologi, yakni ditimbulkan sebagai akibat dari persaingan antara paling tidak dua pihak; di mana tiap-tiap pihak dapat berupa perorangan, keluarga, kelompok kekerabatan, satu komunitas, atau mungkin satu lapisan kelas sosial pendukung ideologi tertentu, satu organisasi politik, satu suku bangsa, atau satu pemeluk agama tertentu (Nader, t.t.). Dengan demikian pihak-pihak yang dapat terlibat dalam konflik meliputi banyak macam bentuk dan ukurannya. Selain itu dapat pula dipahami bahwa pengertian konflik secara antropologis tersebut tidak berdiri sendiri, melainkan secara bersama-sama dengan pengertian konflik menurut aspek-aspek lain yang semuanya itu turut ambil bagian dalam memunculkan konflik sosial dalam kehidupan kolektif manusia (Chang, 2001).

Abstract

Telecommunication technology nowadays tries to implement Personal Communication System (PCS) which has Personal Mobility (PM) and Terminal Mobility (TM). PCS can be define as radio technology that uses Radio Frequency (RF) as a transmission medium, which is small and light, and can be implemented indoor and outdoor. One equipment that implements this technology is called D-Link. The application of D-Link is to communicate among users either indoor or outdoor. Research methodology includes deciding the parameters and calculating the path loss between base station and portable station at the second floor of Electrical Engineering Department Syiah Kuala University. The final result was that the communication between the base station and portable station in the rooms at the second floor could exist but the process is rather slow and can experience discontinuity. Those were happenbecause the receiver’s power was below the threshold of the portable station level, i.e.. -40 dB.

Abstract

The development of software in Welding Strength Design have fulfill the demand of quick account and efficiency that could manage and maximize resources. This research aim to get welding strength from several loading systems in steel material using software “Smalltalk” The result of the simulation of welding strength design for butt joint, normal tension 34,286 N/mm2 with seam welding strength Fe 390. For lap joint, normal tension 44,63 N/mm2 with seam welding strength Fe 490. At T joint for ring surface, bending strength 64,646 N/mm2 with  seam welding strength Fe 590. At T joint for square surface, bending strength 79,502 N/mm2 with  seam welding strength Fe 690. Keyword : Smalltalk Software, Welding Strength Design, Welding Joint.
