Abstract

Abstract This reearch told about main characters in a love  story novel A Walk to Remember between Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter, when they were seventeen years old, which ended marriage on young ages. The problem was formulated on what were the unique characters of Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter and how they as characters could develop in that novel. The writer used the qualitative descriptive method and intrinsic approach. . To collect data, the writer followed these steps: (a) reading the whole novel, (b) selecting the physical appearance and attitude of Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter, (c) classifying the data dealing with the problem of the research (d) summarizing. The results showed they were uniqueness characters because Jamie's uniqueness were she married at young age when she was dying of leukemia, she always carried the Bible and read it, her appearances, and her way to socialize with others; Landon's uniqueness were he wanted to help although he was a rebel boy, he changed be the good man because his love for Jamie, and he let his life the way of the Bible taught as the example he still married Jamie although he knew that Jamie was dying. Abstract

This research aims to (1) analyze translation techniques by using Molinas Albirs theory (2002) in the text of the Immigration Law in English, (2) analyze the quality of the translation in terms of accuracy, acceptability and readability by using Nababan's theory (2012) in translating legal of the Immigration Law into English; and (3) analyze the impact of translation techniques on the quality of the translation in the text of the Immigration Law in English. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The source of data is the Immigration Law written in two languages, namely Indonesian as the source text (TS) and English as the target language (TL). Based on the analysis, it is found that: (1) In the translation of the Immigration Law, there are 12 translation techniques used, namely 64 (39%) literal, 36 (22%) calque, 24 (14%) established equivalent, 10 (6.2%) generalization, 9 (5.5%) borrowing, 4 (2,4%) linguistic amplification, 2 (1.2%) particularization, 5 (3.1%) transposition, 1 (0.6%) compensation, 3 (1.8%) modulation, 2 (1.2%) reduction and 1 (0.6%) adaptation. (2) The total score for the translation quality is 2,77% which is the quality of translation almost perfect. (3) The most dominant translation technique used in translating this legal text is literal technique (39%) which is the dominant technique that gives impact to translation quality.

Abstract

Explicitation, implicitation and meaning change are the kinds of cohesion shift which is the important topic to investigate in translation. The confirmation of explicitation and implicitation translation process and its devices that is adopt by Noor Cholis and Yusi Avianto Pareanom in translating conjuction activites between sentences and clauses from English (ST) to Bahasa (TT). The data of this research are several conjuction which is appear in every chapter from Principle of Language Learning Language. To prove the hypothesis of explicitation based on Blum-Kulka (1986)  is also the aim of this research then the analysis about conjuntive relation is done based on Haliday and Hasan (1976). The result of this reaserach shown us that 1) The hypotheis is positive or the portion of explicitation is bigger (63,52%), Implicitation (28,93%), meaning change (7,54%). 2) Addition is 16 devices and omision 24 devices of conjuction are adopted by the translator. 3) translators applied explicitated to the four types of conjuction such as: additive (39,60% ), adversative (26,73% ), causal (10,89% ) and temporal (22,77%) and implicitated to the four types of conjuction additive (26,08% ), adversative (39,13% ), causal (23,91% ) and temporal (10,86%) while the meaning change on additive (66,66% ), adversative (33,33% ), causal (0% ) and temporal (0%). From the finding above, it is described that additive conjunction potrayed more explicit than other and adversative conjunction more implicit than the other while additive conjunction experiences more meaning change than the other types of conjuction.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the types of address terms found in the Love Rosie movie and to find out how the address terms are translated into Bahasa Indonesia. In collecting the data in this research, the researcher used the descriptive qualitative method. The data collected in this research were from the data sources which are the Love Rosie movie and the movie manuscript. The types of the address terms theories by Wardhaugh (2006: 271), Simatupang (2000: 77), and Larson (1984: 121), and the translation procedures theory by Vinay and Dalbernet (2000: 84-93) were used in analyzing the data in this research. This research used data analysis techniques by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). There were 65 data collected in this research. The findings of this research showed two main points. (1) There were 5 types of address; 6 data of pronouns, 17 data of kinship, 10 data of titles, 22 data of names, and 10 data of endearments. (2) There were six translation procedures applied in translating the address terms; 19 data translated by applying literal translation, 17 data by applying borrowing, 13 data by applying transposition, 1 data by applying modulation, 1 data by applying equivalence, and 14 data by applying adaption. Based on the data analysis and the findings, it can be concluded that the types of address terms found in the Love Rosie movie are in the form of pronouns, kinship, titles, names, and endearments. There are 6 address terms in the form of pronouns, 17 address terms in the form of kinship, 10 address terms in the form of titles, 22 address terms in the form of names, and 10 address terms in the form of endearments. Then, the translation procedures applied by the translator in translating the address terms in Love Rosie movie are using Vinay and Dalbernet’s (2000: 84-93) theory which are literal translation, borrowing, transposition, calque, modulation, equivalence, and adaptation. There are 18 address terms are translated by applying literal translation which is the most commonly used procedure by the translator, 17 address terms by applying borrowing, 12 address terms by applying transposition, 1 address term by applying modulation, 1 address term by applying equivalence, and 16 address terms by applying adaptation.
