Improvement of Activeness and Learning Outcomes of English Speaking through the Snowball Throwing Learning Model Molla, Nur Laila

Abstract

This research focused on the aspect of speaking skills of the students of Molla Course Tegal where the students' English speaking ability was still quite low. Implementation of Snowball Throwing cooperative learning model was conducted using the Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research subjects were 22 students. The indicator of success was Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) that was 75. Standard percentage of classical completeness was 80%. In pre-cycle, the result of activeness observation was 22.15% with low criteria. In the first cycle, percentage of activeness increased 39.21%, so that percentage of activeness became 61.36% with high criteria. In the second cycle, activeness increased by 35.79% to 97.15% with very high criteria. The increase in student learning outcomes shows that in cycle I, from 22 students there were 16 students or 72.72% of students who have reached completeness score, while 6 students or 27.27% have not yet achieved completeness. The average score in the first cycle was 76.39. In cycle II, the deficiencies were corrected; 22 students (100%) obtained complete learning outcomes with average score of 90.02. Results of the study prove that Snowball Throwing Model increases learning activeness and English speaking skills.

Abstract

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a way to deal with the educating of second and unknown dialects that emphasis on cooperation as both the methods and the last objective of learning a language. Targets are (1) to discover Effectiveness of CLT Approach in Improving Speaking Ability. (2) huge contrasts between students who are instructed by CLT and not. Quantitative research is a true design experiment. Design used was a pretest-posttest control group design. Population is eighth grader students in Junior High School 1 Tegal. Research uses cluster random sampling with two group design (experiment group and control group). Data was broke down utilizing a t-test, score of the t-test is 2.744. Score of t-table is at 5% level importance and on level of 62 is 1.670, t-test result is higher than t-table (2.744>1.670). t-test hypothesis is rejected, and t-table hypothesis is accepted. CLT improve speaking capability.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to describe the implementation of Quick Response (QR) Codes in teaching reading, to find out the significant difference between students who are taught with and without using QR Codes, and to know the students’ responses from using QR Codes in teaching reading of English explanation texts to XI class in MAN Kota Tegal in the academic year of 2018/2019. This research used a type of experimental study with pretest-posttest control design. The results of the study described the QR Codes could be implemented in teaching reading as a teaching medium. The steps of applying this medium were (1) asking students to make a group, (2) scanning the QR Code to get reading text and worksheet of assignment, (3) doing the activities stated in QR codes, and lastly (4) discussing the result. Moreover, t-test result showed higher than t-table (4.372 > 2.011). It meant that there was significant difference from experiment and control group. In accordance with students’ responses result, it mentioned that students felt enthusiastic, motivated, and discovered new things during teaching learning process through QR Codes. Therefore, it was suggested to English teacher using QR Codes in teaching reading.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian pemahaman mendengarkan siswa setelah diajarkan melalui video film dan untuk menyelidiki proses pengajaran mendengarkan melalui video film di kelas. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas satu SMPN 1 Tegal. Penelitian kuantitatif ini menggunakan satu kelompok desain pretest-posttest. Uji pemahaman mendengarkan obyektif digunakan sebagai instrumen dan data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji-t berulang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan yang signifikan dari pre-test ke post-test. Nilai rata-rata dari pre-test adalah 54.83 dan post-test adalah 72.17 dan t-value lebih tinggi dari t-tabel. Dengan membandingkan skor pre-test dan post-test, dapat ditemukan bahwa perbedaannya adalah 17,33. Ini membuktikan bahwa perlakuan/treatment memiliki efek positif pada prestasi siswa. Berdasarkan data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan video film di kelas meningkatkan prestasi pemahaman mendengarkan siswa. Abstract

COVID-19 merupakan wabah yang sangat memilukan bagi seluruh penduduk dibumi. Seluruh segmen kehidupan manusia di bumi terganggu, tanpa kecualipendidikan. Banyak negara memutuskan menutup sekolah, perguruan tinggimaupun universitas, termasuk Indonesia. Krisis benar-benar datang tiba-tiba,pemerintah di belahan bumi manapun termasuk Indonesia harus mengambilkeputusan yang pahit menutup sekolah untuk mengurangi kontak orang-orangsecara masif dan untuk menyelamatkan hidup atau tetap harus membuka sekolahdalam rangka survive para pekerja dalam menjaga keberlangsungan ekonomi.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh penyebaran covid-19terhadap dunia pendidikan. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 75 responden.Metoda pemilihan sampel yang digunakan yaitu purposive sampling. Alat analisisyang digunakan untuk pengujian adalah product moment dan determinasi Hasilpengujian menyebutkan bahwa penyebaran covid-19 berpengaruh positif signifikanterhadap dunia penididkan. Studi ini menemukan bahwa penyebaran covid-19berpengaruh terhadap dunia pendidikan.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, English teachers encountered considerable challenges as they were required to adapt to online learning while mastering digital technologies and developing appropriate instructional media. This study employed a descriptive qualitative case study design to examine teachers’ creativity in using multimedia to encourage students’ speaking ability during the pandemic. The participants consisted of eighteen English teachers from seven private junior high schools in Kota Tegal, Central Java, Indonesia, who completed a questionnaire. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with three teachers and two students from two selected schools to obtain in-depth qualitative data. The findings indicate that teachers utilized a wide range of multimedia and digital platforms to support speaking instruction. Interactive conversation videos were the most frequently used multimedia, reported by 50% of the respondents. Google Meet emerged as the primary platform for synchronous speaking activities, with 88.9% of teachers using it regularly. Online quiz platforms, such as Quizzes and Edmodo, were also commonly employed (83.3%) to enhance student engagement, while digital learning platforms such as Ruang Guru, Zenius, and Quipper were recommended to support students’ independent learning (72.2%). Furthermore, the study reveals that teachers demonstrated creativity by combining multiple media and platforms, designing flexible speaking tasks, establishing clear classroom rules, and creating a supportive and enjoyable online learning atmosphere. Collaboration with parents was also identified as an important strategy to maintain students’ learning discipline at home. Overall, the findings highlight the essential role of teacher creativity in sustaining effective EFL speaking instruction during emergency remote teaching.

Abstract

Keterbatasan penguasaan kosakata menjadi kendala utama pendengar Radio Sananta FM dalam memahami dan menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan untuk memberikan solusi melalui program siaran pendidikan “Catch the Words,” yang menyajikan pembelajaran kosakata, idiom, dan analisis lirik lagu secara interaktif. Program berlangsung pada 1 September–15 Oktober 2025 dan dilaksanakan melalui penyampaian materi secara live, dialog dengan penyiar, serta keterlibatan pendengar melalui pesan WhatsApp. Metode pengabdian meliputi persiapan materi, koordinasi dengan pihak radio, pelaksanaan siaran, serta evaluasi berdasarkan respons dan testimoni pendengar. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan antusiasme, partisipasi, serta keberanian pendengar dalam bertanya dan mencoba menggunakan kosakata baru. Pendengar mengaku lebih mudah memahami materi melalui pendekatan berbasis musik dan dialog. Selain meningkatkan motivasi belajar, program ini juga membuka akses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang murah, fleksibel, dan menjangkau semua kalangan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa radio efektif digunakan sebagai media edukasi untuk memperluas kesempatan belajar bahasa Inggris bagi masyarakat.
