Abstract

Problems with laundry waste, especially in the content of surfactants in detergents. Surfactants have properties as surface tension reducers. In the body of water can cause foam that can mediate itching. As domestic waste, this laundry waste is generally disposed directly to the environment without any treatment, which if left unchecked, of course, will be bad for the environment. The content in laundry wastes such as COD, BOD, TDS, pH, phosphate level and turbidity that do not comply with quality standards can cause polluted environments and can disrupt public health and the environment. In this study, two water treatment methods were applied, namely coagulation and electrocoagulation by adding 7 ml of 5% peroxide. This research was carried out in a batch process both electrocoagulation and coagulation. The parameters reviewed were COD, TSS, pH, phosphate level, PO4- and turbidity. Coagulation using alum coagulant (Aluminum sulfate). The variation of the two coagulation processes is, for coagulation, the stirring speed is 300 rpm for 10 minutes and the coagulant dose (500 ppm, 600 ppm, 700 ppm, 800 ppm and 900 ppm). In electrocoagulation contact times were varied (15 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes). The best results obtained were wastewater treatment using the Electrocoagulation method with a COD reduction of 76%, BOD 83%, turbidity 98% and phosphate 99.9%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang dan menguji sebuah reaktor kolom gelembung. Reaktor kolom gelembung yang dirancang diharapkan dapat digunakan untuk mereaksikan reaktan multi-fasa. Reaktor yang telah dirancang diuji dengan sistem reaksi antara gas CO2 dan larutan NaOH. Reaktor dioperasikan pada kondisi tekanan atmosferik. Pengaruh beberapa variabel seperti kecepatan gas superfisial, konsentrasi NaOH dan unggun isian telah diujikan terhadap kinerja reaktor kolom gelembung. Kecepatan gas superfisial bervariasi dari 2,75.10-3 hingga 3,46.10-3 m/s dan konsentrasi natrium hidroksida bervariasi 0,5 M dan 1 M. Reaktor kolom gelembung dievaluasi tanpa dan dengan unggun di dalam reaktor. Parameter kinerja reaktor kolom gelembung yang digunakan adalah gas holdup dan konstanta laju reaksi. Gas holdup untuk reaktor dengan isian unggun lebih kecil 3 sampai 5 kali dibandingkan dengan kolom tanpa isian unggun. Sedangkan laju reaksi meningkat dengan adanya penambahan unggun ke dalam kolom. Peningkatan kecepatan gas superficial dapat meningkatkan nilai gas holdup dan laju reaksi. Konsentrasi reaktan natrium hidroksida juga memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap gas holdup dan laju reaksi.

Abstract

The disposal plastic waste into the environtment is an important issue due to the natureof the origin of plastics that are difficult to decomposes naturally. Therefore, efforts are made to accelerate the degradation time by using natural polymers. Corn is one of the easily found sources of starch. Starch is one of the natural polymres that can be used for the manufacture of biodegradable plastics (bioplastics) because it is easily degradable, readily available and affordable but has shortcomings in mechanical properties and water absorption ability.The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of temperature variations 60; 70; 80 and 90°C with a drying time of 1; 2; 3 and 4 hours of biodegradation time. From this study, the best results were found at a temperature of 60°C with a drying time of 1 hour which obtained a degradation time of 5 days; average thickness 0.12 mm – 0.30 mm; the overall average water absorption is 4.04% and the average water resistance is 95.99%; tensile strength of 5.69 MPa and 5.54 MPa; elongation at break of 4% and 1.6%.
