Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is of important major crops for its carbohydrate and plays important roles to support food sovereignty along with rice, wheat, corn, and sorghum. Potato growth and yield at West Sumatra has not reached its maximum potential due to some factors including cultivation. One major important constraint in potato growing in West Sumatra is the fact that farmers use the 8th to 12th generation of potato seedlings which have a very low agronomic potential. Yet, weeds have caused another problem in the field and reduce potato yield. An experiment has been conducted at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas and Nagari Alahan Panjang, Subdistrict Lembah Gumanti, Solok Regency from November 2018 to March 2019. The experiment was aimed at determining the best indigenous rhizobactria isolates to increase the growth and yield of potato plants as well as weed population dynamics associated with potato plants. Six isolates of indigenous rhizobacteria and a control treatment group were tested in a completely randomised design with three replicates. The isolates were L1 S3.1, L1 S3.2, L1 S4.4, L2 S1.2, L2 S2.3, L2 S3. 2. Data were analyzed with analysis of variance and mean separation with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5%. Results showed that isolate L1 S4.4 was best in increasing the number of branches, number of tubers, and weight of potato yield. The isolates tested affected weed populations dynamics, prior to treatments there were 8 species of weeds found at the field i.e Bidens pilosa L., Leptochloa chinensis, Eleusine indica L., Agerathum conyzoides, Richardia sp, Galinsoga parviflora, and Sonchus arvensis. During potato growing at the field, weed species of Eleusine indica L. and Gynura divaricata dissappeared from the soil. In contrast,  Amaranthus spinosus emerged demonstrating that weed population dynamic has occurred.

Abstract

The area of tobacco land in West Sumatra Province, especially in Limapuluh Kota Regency, experienced a quite drastic decline, reaching 66.6% in the period 2022 and 2023. One of the causes declining land is related to prices and income. Low prices and income can be caused by different marketing methods between farmers. Therefore, the research aims to measure income and costs of tobacco processing based on marketing methods. The data analysis method in this research uses descriptive analysis and the Independent T Test. Descriptive analysis aims to describe the costs of processing chopped tobacco, obstacles and factors that influence farmers to sell chopped and spread tobacco. Meanwhile, the t test was carried out to see whether there was a difference in income between farmers who sold chopped and spread. The research results show that farmers' obstacles in processing chopped tobacco are dependence on sunlight, long processing time, and high processing costs. Meanwhile, the factors that influence farmers to sell expanse tobacco are that it is easy and practical, easy to sell, and requires money immediately. In terms of income, there is a significant difference between farmers who sell chopped and farmers who sell overlay. There is a difference in income of IDR 10,132,630/ha/planting season or 37%.

Abstract

Abstract

The agricultural sector is one source of livelihood for the Indonesian population. One of the important sub-sectors is plantations, with coffee being one of the leading commodities. Trends in changing people's lifestyles have resulted in the rapid development of the coffee industry in Indonesia. However, this is not directly proportional to the welfare of farmers in the field, because farmers have minimal knowledge regarding good and correct coffee cultivation techniques so that the quantity and quality of coffee produced is low. This service was carried out using the PALS approach involving coffee farmers who are members of the Palito farmer group in Situjuah Gadang Nagari, Situjuah Limo Nagari District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra. This service is carried out with the aim of increasing farmers' knowledge and technical skills regarding good and correct coffee cultivation so that they can increase the quantity and quality of coffee produced, as well as increasing the income and welfare of coffee farmers.

Abstract

One of the superior plantation commodities is cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.), which plays a role in absorbing labor, providing industrial raw materials and a source of foreign exchange. Cocoa is grow almost in all regions of Indonesia, in the global market Indonesia is first producer cocoa in Asia and the third in the world. To maintain and increase cocoa production, optimal handling is needed in all aspects including the agronomic aspect. One of the obstacles in the agronomic aspect is the presence of weeds which cause competition with cocoa in obtaining nutrients, water, sun, and growing space. If weeds are not controlled, they can cause growth disturbances and decreased production. Weed control must be carried out correctly and precisely. The first step in controlling weeds is vegetation analysis to find out the weeds that grow in the cocoa fields, then control techniques are determined. After analyzing the vegetation of weeds, it was found that there were 6 species of weeds that grew dominantly in the cocoa fields, namely, the dominant weeds in order were Paspalum conjugatum (SDR 34.70%), Borreria alata (SDR 24.30%), Persicaria odorata (SDR 18.20%), Imperata cylindrica (SDR 14.00%), Cyperus rotundus (SDR 5.60%), Ageratum conyzoides (SDR 3.20%).
