Abstract

WhatsApp has become a forum for communication and information related to the COVID-19 pandemic, so there are messages that ignore the identification and validation of news facts. This creates an information gap on WhatsApp. This study aims to analyze the form of information gaps related to information on the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia shared by WhatsApp group users. This research uses quantitative research methods, with data collection techniques through documentation of text messages and pictures, as well as the results of a survey conducted on WhatsApp group users. The results of this research indicate that the information gap in reporting the COVID-19 pandemic occurs due to information gaps in the form of uncertainty, strong beliefs and opportunities to choose information and decisions to choose information values. The substance of this research contributes in the form of new policy recommendations in assessing information gaps in social media by validating the truth of the facts in each message received and shared to another users.

Abstract

Tolak bala is a religious tradition of the people of Parepare City which is still practiced in several mosques and aims to keep themselves and their families away from all disasters. Tradition that describes a form of religious and cultural adaptation in society. This study tries to describe the form and process of adaptation of da'wah in the implementation of the tradition of rejecting reinforcements which shows the modification of Islamic values on the subject, procession and representation of symbols through the theory of cultural adaptation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a phenomenological approach to describe various conditions and social phenomena that occur in the people of Parepare City. Data were collected through the process of observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate a modification of Islamic values in the implementation of the tradition of tolak bala carried out by the people of Parepare City. This modification shows that the adaptation of the concept of da'wah bil hal in the intercorrelation of Islam and local culture is not contradictory, but complementary. This harmonization facilitates the transformation of da'wah values in society.

Abstract

Feminist da'wah by women preachers on YouTube has formed Muslim interaction relationships that play a role in helping spread the teachings of Islam, especially for Muslim women who are packaged in da'wah messages that construct the role of women in the domestic sphere. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach and qualitative descriptive to describe various conditions, situations or phenomena of social reality that occur on social media. Data collection techniques were carried out by documentation, observation and focus group discussion. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the construction of gender identity through the externalization process of adjustment to social reality, objectivation by using Islamic normative legal basis and internalization through acceptance and determination of choices in action. The cognitive reduction that occurs gives birth to the assumption of dominance, the assumption of limitation and the assumption of deviation in representing a da'wah message. Adjustments to the principle of justice and the basic conditions experienced by a woman are needed in understanding the message of da'wah.

Abstract

This research studied about the kinds of propaganda expressions and what messages are conveyedthrough the propaganda expressions in Angel and Demon novel by Dan Brown. The research usedthe propaganda theory by Harold Laswell, that divided in four kinds; agitation, integration, horizontally and vertically propaganda. In the methodology of research, the writer used descriptive qualitativemethod and intrinsic and extrinsic approach. In this research, the writer found there are someexpressions that contain agitation propaganda, integration propaganda, horizontally propaganda andvertically propaganda that could be giving influence to the reader. In general, an expression ofpropaganda in “Angel and Demon” novel by Dan Brown wants to change the mindset of peopletowards their views to the brotherhood of the „Illuminati. The novel attempts to explain the history ofthe birth of a conflict between the Christian and the „Illuminati‟ and how much influence they hadbeen, the author packed them into a dialogue delivered by characters that are in the novel in whichthere are propaganda expressions. The implication of this research as a information to the public thata novel is not only use full as a reading at leisure or entertainment, but the novel can also be functioning as media of propaganda
