Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out whether the students’ reading comprehension could be improved through scanning strategy at the Second Semester Students of Academy of  Foreign Languages at Persada Bunda Foundation in Pekanbaru. The problem was students’ low in reading comprehension and lack of knowledge of reading technique. The research was classroom action research. The participants of this research were the Second Semester Students of Academy of  Foreign Language at Persada Bunda Foundation in Pekanbaru. They are consisted of 21 students. The other participant was one of the English lecturer as the researcher’s collaborator. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisted of three meetings. The data in this research were divided into two major types namely, quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were gathered through reading comprehension test. The qualitative data were collected through observation, and field notes. The result of the analysis showed that the students grades improved after using the scanning technique. The improvement happened on each cycle at the research. The improvement of students’ reading comprehension scores were influenced by factors such as motivation, interest, and classroom atmosphere. Thus, it was conclude that scanning can improve students’ reading comprehension. The technique also increases students’ speed in reading comprehension that can be used by students of Academy of Foreign Language at Persada Bunda Foundation and others. Therefore, the scanning technique is suggested to be used by the students and lecturer in teaching and learning reading comprehension at the Academy of Foreign Language of Persada Bunda Foundation in Pekanbaru

Abstract

The goal of this research was to get information whether the students’ reading comprehension could be improved through Internet using at the Fourth Semester Students of School of  Foreign Language at Persada Bunda. The cases were some students’ reading comprehension still low or below standard passing of test. The research was classroom action research. The participants of this research were the Fourth Semester Students of School of  Foreign Language at Persada Bunda. They are consisted of 12 students. This research was held into two cycles, each cycle consisted of three meetings. The research data were divided into two major types namely, quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were taken through reading comprehension test. The qualitative data were collected through observation, and field notes. The result of the analysis showed that the students grades improved after internet using. The improvement happened on each cycle at the research. The improvement of students’ reading comprehension scores were influenced by factors such as motivation, interest, and classroom atmosphere. Thus, it was concluded that internet using can improve students’ reading comprehension. The internet using  also increases students’ speed in reading comprehension that can be used by students of School of Foreign Language at Persada Bunda. Therefore, the internet using is recommended to be used by the students and lecturer in teaching and learning reading comprehension at the School of Foreign Language of Persada Bunda.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to improve students’ reading comprehension of narrative text through WhatsApp. Related to the purpose of the research, the researcher design which used in this study was class action research. The subject of the research was students of class X at SMA IT Fadhilah Pekanbaru which consist of 23 students. The action research was conducted from December to January 2020 - 2021. The researcher conducted one cycle, one cycle consisted two meeting of action research. The result of the study showed that the criteria of success of this research depend on the minimum score of the school that have been determined. It was 2,66 and the research would be successful if in the class there were 75% of the students have passed minimum score. Based on the result in the cycle, it was found that 28 or 85% students succeeded. Therefore, it can be concluded that students’ reading comprehension of narrative text can be improved through WhatsApp media

Abstract

As we know that one of  the most important aspect in mastering a language is the ability to  read. As a matter of fact, that many students get low score in reading class lesson. On the other hand, only few students get high score in reading class lesson. If we analyze by using the four competencies of mastering english such as: Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening, they have tight relationship each other. In the researcher point of view, based on daily observation and interview with some students, the main cause of students’ low reading achievement is reading strategy or techniques of reading. It can be checked in class activity, some of them do not have self confidence in reading and do the exercises. Thus, some of them do not do the assignment well, this can be caused by lack of knowledge of reading techniques and they also regard that reading is one the most difficult subject and bored to read english reading material. Consequently, they often get low marks in reading subject at the end of the the semester.

Abstract

Students have problems in reading class. Google Classroom can be use as media in the classroom This classroom action research show that students in STBA Persada Bunda have improved their critical reading strategies. It can be seen from the result of their test for every cylce. Their mark is better than before applying google classroom. Google classroom improved teaching and learning process at the Fourth Semester Students’ of School of Foreign Languages. They are brave enough to ask question, give  comment, got the conclusion about the task given by themselves, and share idea among their friend. The factors the that influence the changes reading comprehension by google classroom, the students knew about topic, main idea, detail which found in the reading text

Abstract

The research objective is to describe the process and results as an effort to improve storytelling ability by using YouTube video for x grade students of MA Al-Fajar Pekanbaru. The method that used for the research is a descriptive method in the form of classroom action research (CAR). Data analysis techniques used were comparative descriptive techniques and critical analytic techniques. The results showed that the use of by using YouTube video can improve the storytelling ability for x grade students of MA Al-Fajar Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Coffee shop is very popular in Indonesia. Coffee shop usually has logo which contain their own characteristic to identify the coffee shop. People usually start the conversation with each other, everyone can meet up with their friends in the coffee shop, people could talk, gathering, and relaxing. This study was to focused learnt about element of the sign and meaning through the coffee shops logos in Pekanbaru. The purpose of this research was to analyze what the elements of the sign and what the interpretant meaning of the sign in coffee shops logos. This research used qualitative method to describe the research about elements and interpretant sign in each coffee shop logo. This research using triadic semiotics theory which created by Charles Sanders Peirce to do analysis. Total data to analyze were 10 coffee shops in Pekanbaru. The result showed that The icon where to focus on the image or could be said the icon such as a half circle, manual coffee grinder handle, coffee bean grow some leaf, letter “D” fill with house and grass, the bridge and plastic up with coffee bean, letter “A” with coffee bean and roof house with letter “O” fill with coffee bean. The index sign was to shown which had the name of their coffee shop. The symbols was to focus on the philosophical meaning of the logo color.
