<![CDATA[The purpose of this study was to describe the used of language in the essay of high school students of class XI. The method used was qualitative descriptive method. The results showed the use of language in the essay of high school students XI tends to be right. It is based on the results of the discussion which shows the level of spelling accuracy and the effectiveness of the sentence is more dominant than the inaccuracy of spelling and the ineffectiveness of the sentence. The accuracy of language usage is 93.65% and language usability is 6.35%. The accuracy of spelling use is found in many aspects of basic and derived words, whereas inaccuracy is found in many aspects of capitalization. The effectiveness of a sentence is found in all the features of effective sentences ie correspondence, parallelism, assertiveness, austerity, precision, cohesion, and logic. The ineffectiveness of sentences is often found on the characteristics of parenting. The ineffectiveness is mostly caused by the subject of unclear sentences.Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan bahasa pada karangan siswa SMA kelas XI. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penggunaan bahasa pada karangan siswa SMA kelas XI cenderung tepat. Hal tersebut berdasar pada hasil pembahasan yang menunjukkan tingkat ketepatan ejaan dan keefektifan kalimat lebih dominan dibanding ketidaktepatan ejaan dan ketidakefektifan kalimat. Ketepatan penggunaan bahasa 93,65% dan ketidaktepatan penggunaan bahasa 6,35%. Ketepatan penggunaan ejaan banyak ditemukan pada aspek penulisan kata dasar dan kata turunan, sedangkan ketidaktepatan banyak ditemukan pada aspek pemakaian huruf kapital. Keefektifan kalimat ditemukan pada seluruh ciri kalimat efektif yakni kesepadanan, keparalelan, ketegasan, kehematan, kecermatan, kepaduan, dan kelogisan. Ketidakefektifan kalimat banyak ditemukan pada ciri kesepadan. Ketidakefektifan tersebut banyak disebabkan oleh subjek kalimat yang tidak jelas.Kata kunci: ejaan, kalimat, penggunaan bahasa]]>
