Abstract

The sample of this research was class IVA in academic year 2012/2013. In collecting the data the writer administered the pretest, treatment, and post test. Vocabulary test in multiple choices form was used as the instrument of the research. The data were analyzed by using repeated measure t- test. The result showed that the mean score of pretest was 47.67 meanwhile the means score of post test was 68.88. After comparing the result of the pretest and post test scores, it was found that there was an increase of students’ vocabulary mastery. The gain of pretest and post test was 21.21. The result of t-test computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table that is (16.579 2.034). It can be concluded that teaching vocabulary using flashcard could increase students’ vocabulary mastery of concrete noun at the fourth grade of SDN 1 Jati Mulyo Lampung Selatan.Keywords : concrete noun, flashcard, vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan hasil dalam kemampuan siswa merangkum teks melalui TPS dan untuk mengetahui bagaimana kegiatan siswa dalam proses belajar melalui TPS. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas dua SMPN 1 Seputih Agung, Lampung Tengah terdiri dari tujuh kelas. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIIIC. Data diperoleh dari pretest, postest, dan observasi. Berdasarkan perhitungan, hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa pada posttest (72.11) lebih tinggi dari pretest (53.33) dengan perbedaan 18.78 poin. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis diterima, karena t-value (25.491) t-table (1.684). TPS meningkatkan tidak hanya kemampuan siswa dalam merangkum teks, tetapi juga meningkatkan kegiatan siswa selama proses belajar. Oleh karena itu, TPS dianjurkan untuk digunakan oleh guru untuk meningkatkan prestasi menulis siswa.The objectives of this research were to investigate whether there is an increase in students’ writing ability in summarizing text after being taught through TPS and to find out the students’ activity in learning process using TPS. Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out whether there was an increase of the students‟ reading comprehension achievement after being taught through Retelling in Recount Text. Retelling is one of technique which are considered applicable and useful in increasing reading comprehension achievement. It increases both the quantity and quality of what is comprehended. This quantitative research applied one group pretest posttest design. The population of this study was the first grade students of SMAN 2 Tulang Bawang Udik, Tulang Bawang Barat. Two classes were selected in this research, one class served as try out class and the other was assigned as experimental class. Pretest-posttest items were employed to obtain the data. The collected data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure t-Test with Statistically Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 17.0. Based on the calculation of t-Test, the result showed that the students‟ mean score of posttest in experimental class (63.23) was higher than pretest (47. 93) with the gained score was 15.30. The t-test also revealed that the result was significant (p .05, p= .000). Thus, it is concluded that there was an increase in students‟ reading comprehension achievement after being taught through retelling.Keywords: reading comprehension, recount text, retelling.

Abstract

The objective of this research are to find out whether there is any significant difference of students‟ reading comprehension to understand narrative text between extrovert and introvert personality. The population of the research was the students of the first grade of SMAN 1 Seputih Banyak, Lampung Tengah in the academic year 2012/2013 in X5 class. The research design used was ex post facto design. The result showed that there was difference between the mean of extrovert group, which was (76.28) and the mean of extrovert group (61.17). The writer used one-tailed T-test formula in SPSS 15 to do the calculation with the level significant of 0.05. The result of computation showed that t-value is (0.000). The t-value exceed the t-table at the level of significance 0.05 (6.0872.056). Based on the result of the research, it is proved that the students of extrovert type have better result than introvert in reading comprehension test. So, from this statement the researcher‟s hypothesis is accepted. Keywords: comparative, extrovert and introvert personality, reading comprehension.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether Mind Mapping technique can increase students’ reading comprehension of report text. There were ten classes and one class is chosen as the sample of this research that consisted of 35 students. The treatment was conducted three times. This research used one group pre – post test design. It means that the result is formed by comparing the differences score between pre – test and post – test. The difference of those test are calculated by using Sample Paired t – test. The result shows that the mean of pre – test was 64.4 and the mean of post – test is 77.4. It means that the increase of students’ score is 14.02. Besides, the significance level is 0.00 and it is significant where 0.00 0.05. Thus, for the hypothesis, the null hypothesis is rejected and the research hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is increase ofstudents’ reading comprehension ability of report text using mind mapping technique. Keywords: mind mapping technique, reading comprehension, report text
