Abstract

Storytelling has been a part of children’s life. They loved being told as well as telling a story. Being told a story made them see what has been read, and telling a story made them talk as they spoke it out. As the children learn a language, story is one effective way for them to learn a language. This study is aimed to find out to what extent storytelling could help young children with their early reading comprehension in terms of story-retell. One class in one national plus school has been the setting of the study with 13 students as the subjects. A mix method was implemented through a classroom action research design. This study came up with a significant result that storytelling activities have been effective ways to increase young children’s retell fluency, both in content and fluency. The help of pictures, cue cards, and flashcards has been very efficient in helping young children to have a better comprehension in their early reading. These teaching aids had also been able to motivate them to be more active and engaged during the class.

Abstract

The assessment was becoming part of teaching activities to measure the learning target. It requires several assessment aspects to gain the language learning achievements of the learners. This article intended to examine the strength of the Information Transfer Technique (ITT) in assessing listening for a daily conversation subject for the students in the first year of students of English Department, the University of Darussalam Gontor which is considered as a Pesantren-based university. The research employed a quasi-experimental with control and experiment groups with a post-test design.  Each group consisted of 16 colleagues who were regarded as English Foreign Language learners. Their listening subject was assessed by post-test using the information transfer technique in both control and experimental group. The data were analyzed by an independent sample T-Test. The findings revealed that there was a significant inequality between the mean score of pre and post-test. The mean score of the post-test of learners in the experiment group was significantly higher than that in a pre-test. Furthermore, It is proven that the technique of information transfer is assumed eligible to assess the teaching-learning activities in listening for daily conversation

Abstract

This study aims to find out the correlation between automatic translation work and transcreation work in translating some messages. Particularly in the context of style when translating from Indonesian to English. The analysis focuses on the relationship between translation procedures and the type of adaptation in translation. This study uses qualitative methods and descriptive analysis to explain the meaning in translation and transcreation in order to see advantages and disadvantages from automatic translation and transcreation for better understanding the different perspectives. Findings show that the data from Google Accelerator Playbook found eight translation procedures proposed by Newmark, which includes word-for-word translation, Literal Translation, Naturalization, Transposition, Descriptive Equivalent, Modulation, Cultural Equivalent and Transference. The discussion and analysis of the translation procedures related to the concept of transcreation and adaptation that generally affect the meaning of target language. However, the concept and type of adaptation in the transcreation are still equivalent to the applied translation procedures. The results show that there is a correlation between automatic translation and transcreation in particular context and type. This process is to omit any translation errors in the translation tool and create an accurate translation of the source text by seeing the concept of the transcreation process.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of the clustering technique in enhancing students’ writing performance in composing hortatory exposition texts. Conducted as Classroom Action Research (CAR) over two cycles, the research involved 15 twelfth-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Rambipuji during the 2024-2025 academic year. Qualitative and quantitative data were gathered through writing assessments and an observation checklist. In the first cycle, students exhibited limited engagement, weak organization of ideas, and low confidence. After pedagogical refinements in the second cycle – such as guided modeling, collaborative tasks, and structure scaffolding – students showed marked improvement in motivation and writing quality. Their text reflected better organization, more persuasive content, and improved grammar and vocabulary. Clustering helped the student visualize engagement. The findings suggest that clustering is an effective and practical pre-writing strategy for improving argumentative writing skills in EFL contexts.

Abstract

Finding out the element that influence reading achievement in a second/foreign language (L2) is essential for L2 teachers to improve learners’ L2 reading skills. Some studies had conducted to investigate the factors in term of learning media particularly flashcard that has an impact on reading comprehension. However, flashcard media has a variety to implement in learning process such as wordwall assisted flashcard. The current study fills this gap by examining the relationship between that learning media and reading comprehension in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The base allegation of this study is that flash cards as learning media may have an impact on students’ reading comprehension to grasp the information in a procedure text. Two kinds of procedure text were used on reading reading tests (pre-test and post-test) that was accomplished by fourty seven EFL students. They were divided into two classes to find the difference in reading abilities of students who were treated using flashcards and students who were not. The results from the two tests will be compared to determine the impact of using flashcard as learning media on students' reading comprehension. The statistical analysis's findings showed significant differences in EFL reading comprehension according to test score, indicating that wordwall assisted flashcard  plays a crucial role in shaping EFL learners’ reading achievement. These results provide insightful information on how flashcards as learning media might be implemented and organized to support L2 learners in enhancing their L2 reading skills. The study infers with a few suggestions for further study in the areas of flashcards as L2 learning media and L2 reading.

Abstract

Currently, developing technology encourages English teachers to be able to use several educational platforms. Quizizz is one of the educational innovations carried out to achieve learning goals. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. This study investigates students' perceptions of Quizizz. This study adapts and modifies the interview guide from previous research and examines two dimensions: student interest of using Quizizz and the impact of using Quizizz. Researchers conducted research at SMP Muhammadiyah Bondowoso using Quizizz as a leaning media in English lessons. Data collection was carried out utilizing questionnaire and documentation. Findings indicate positive responses regarding student interest expectations and the impact of using Quizizz expectations. However, concerns were raised regarding the limitations of question types, signal problems, and the lack of school-provided facilities
