Abstract

Tanaman obat dapat diolah secara sederhana menjadi sediaan obat yang tahan lama dalam penyimpanan dan praktis penggunaannya. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada masyarakat tentang penanaman dan pemanfaatan tanaman obat keluarga (TOGA) serta pengolahannya menjadi sediaan serbuk instan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat oleh dosen dan mahasiswa Jurusan Farmasi Politeknik Kesehatan Kementerian Kesehatan Manado meliputi pelatihan penanaman dan pemanfaatan TOGA serta pengolahan jahe merah menjadi sediaan serbuk instan dilaksanakan di Desa Kalasey II Kecamatan Mandolang Kabupaten Minahasa. Hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan dan penyuluhan telah memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mengenai pembuatan serbuk instan jahe merah kepada masyarakat serta pemanfaatan TOGA. Kegiatan ini juga diharapkan meningkatkan derajat kesehatan dan perekonomian masyarakat di Desa Kalasey II Kecamatan Mandolang, Kabupaten Minahasa.

Abstract

Starch is a commonly used excipient in pharmaceutical formulations due to its favorable physicochemical properties. Bananas represent a promising natural source of starch. One potential source is Goroho banana (Musa acuminata), an endemic plant from North Sulawesi that remains underexplored as a pharmaceutical excipient. This study aimed to characterize the physicochemical properties of starch isolated from unripe goroho banana and to evaluate its potential as a binder in tablet formulation. The starch was isolated and subsequently subjected to physicochemical characterization. Chemical characterization included proximate analysis (moisture, ash, fat, and protein content) and determination of amylose and amylopectin content. Physical characterization involved the observation of starch granule morphology using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the analysis of gelatinization profile using rapid visco analyzer (RVA). The obtained starch yield was 7.66%, with a slightly brownish-white appearance. The gelatinization temperature was recorded at 74.35 °C, and the pH of 1% starch dispersion was 7.76. Morphological analysis revealed that the starch granules were oval to spherical in shape with relatively smooth surfaces. Tablet formulation evaluation showed that all formulations met the requirements for weight uniformity and disintegration time (<15 minutes). Formulations F3 and F4 complied with the hardness requirement, while all formulations exhibited friability values >1%, indicating that they did not meet the acceptable friability standard. These findings suggest that goroho banana starch possesses suitable physicochemical characteristics for use as a pharmaceutical excipient, particularly as a binder. However, further formulation optimization is required to improve the mechanical strength of the resulting tablets.

Abstract

Background: Diarrhea is a health condition, can be caused by Escherichia coli bacteria. Matoa bark has pharmacological activity, can be used as an alternative antibacterial treatment from natural ingredients. Objective: to determine the content of phytochemical compounds and the potential of ethanol extract of matoa bark as an antibacterial against the growth of Escherichia coli. Method: Type of laboratory experiment research, maceration method extraction, 95% ethanol, test solution concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%. positive control Ciprofloxacin, negative control aquadestilata. Phytochemical analysis based on color reactions and sediment. Antibacterial potential test disc diffusion method, inhibition zone measured using calipers, observation 1x24 hours. Results: Ethanol extract of matoa bark contains phytochemical compounds flavonoids, triterpenoids, saponins, tannins. The extract concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30% have antibacterial activity with an average inhibition zone diameter of 15.75±0.39 mm, 16.09±0.19 mm, and 18.14±0.73 mm, respectively, which are classified as strong. The diameter of the inhibition zone for Ciprofloxacin is 29.56±0.30 mm. The higher the concentration of the extract, the larger the inhibition zone. Conclusion: The ethanol extract of matoa (Pometia pinnata L) stem bark contains phytochemical compounds flavonoids, triterpenoids, saponins, and tannins. Concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30% have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, which are classified as strong. The best test results were obtained at a concentration of 30%.
