Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study investigates the categorization of cultural materials and the sense of the culture of two "Bahasa Inggris 2017 updated edition" English textbooks for grades X and XI in senior high school in Indonesian secondary education. This study examines which cultures are exemplified in the textbooks and how they are characterized. The study's design follows a qualitative descriptive design through content analysis. Both the "categories of culture" approach of Cortazzi and Jin (1999) and the "sense of culture" approach of Adaskou, Britten, and Fahsi (1990) were used in the present study. The data showed that the Bahasa Inggris tenth-grade textbook focused more on source culture instead of the target culture and international culture. Nonetheless, in the Bahasa Inggris eleventh-grade textbook, the target culture is more dominant than the source and international cultures. In both books, the pragmatic sense dominated the aesthetic, semantic, and social sense. This study also uncovered an imbalance in the number of cultural categories exhibited. This study proposes that writers of EFL textbooks should accommodate a balanced representation of source culture, target culture, and international culture, as well as provide an excellent four-cultural sense in the textbooks.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini menyelidiki kategorisasi bahan budaya dan pemahaman budaya dari dua buku teks bahasa Inggris "Bahasa Inggris 2017 edisi terbaru" untuk kelas X dan XI di sekolah menengah atas dalam pendidikan menengah di Indonesia. How to Cite: Akmal, S., Nashriyah, Fauza, N., Chamisah, Syahabuddin, K. Abstract

The study's objective is to analyze the philosophy of John Dewey and its potential application in Islamic education. It aims to explore whether Dewey's ideas, which emphasize the role of experience in shaping human ideals and concepts, can harmonize with the Islamic philosophy of education, centered on the integration of senses, intellect, and religious faith to realize human values. The study will evaluate the compatibility of Dewey's emphasis on critical thinking and personal autonomy with Islamic teachings, which also recognize the significance of knowledge, science, and progress in improving human life. Wherever any ideas are found to be incompatible with Islamic education, the study will provide suggestions on how to improve or replace them to maintain the alignment with Islamic principles. Ultimately, the goal is to enrich Islamic education through a nuanced understanding of Dewey's philosophy and identify ways to bridge the gap between the two educational approaches, fostering a better human existence through continuous engagement and transformation of reality.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of strategic leadership of academic leaders (SLAL) as a mediator between professional training (PT) and staff performance (SP) in state Islamic higher education institutions in Aceh. The study selected a sample of 526 individuals from a population of 826 within five state Islamic higher education institutions in Aceh. Descriptive statistics using SPSS version 22.0 were employed, along with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS software version 23.0 to analyze the data, address research questions, and test hypotheses. The findings from the CFA revealed that professional training (PT) consists of five distinct factors, indicating that all dimensions of professional training (PT) contribute to the latent variable of professional training. Similarly, strategic leadership of academic leaders (SLAL) comprises seven distinct factors, representing the different dimensions of strategic leadership of academic leaders (SLAL) and contributing to the latent variable of strategic leadership. Furthermore, staff performance (SP) consists of four distinct factors, representing the various dimensions of staff performance and contributing to the latent variable of staff performance in state Islamic higher education institutions. Additionally, the study identified a significant relationship between professional training (PT) and staff performance (SP) mediated by strategic leadership of academic leaders (SLAL). This indicates that strategic leadership plays a mediating role in the relationship between professional training and staff performance in state Islamic higher education institutions in Aceh.

Abstract

Evaluation is a fundamental component of the educational process, essential for measuring and improving student learning. This study explores the multifaceted role of evaluation, emphasizing formative and summative assessments, technological integration, and reflective practices. Formative assessments offer real-time feedback, allowing educators to adapt instruction and address learning gaps, while summative assessments provide a comprehensive overview of student achievements at the end of instructional periods. The integration of technology into evaluation practices enhances data collection and analysis, supports personalized learning experiences, and introduces diverse assessment methods. Reflective practices foster continuous improvement by helping students and educators set goals, develop strategies, and refine performance. Ensuring fairness and inclusivity in evaluations promotes equity and supports diverse learner needs. Utilizing a library research design, this study systematically collects, evaluates, and synthesizes academic sources to provide a comprehensive understanding of these evaluation components. The findings highlight the need for a balanced approach that combines formative and summative assessments, leverages technology, and incorporates reflective practices to improve student outcomes and overall educational quality.
