Abstract

There are many new words from the social media such as Netizen, Trentop, and Delcon. Those words include in blending. Blending is one of word formations combining two clipped words to form a brand new word. The researchers are interested in analyzing blend words used in the social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Blackberry Messenger. This research aims at (1) finding blend words used in the social media (2) describing kinds of blend words used in social media (3) describing the process of blend word formation used in the social media. This research uses some theories dealing with definition of blending and kinds of blending. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. Data of the research are English blend words used in social media. Data sources of this research are websites consisting of some English words used in social media and some social media users as the informant. Techniques of data collecting in this research are observation and simak catat. Observation is by observing some websites consisting of some English words used in social media. Simak catat is done by taking some notes on the data and encoding in symbols such as No/Blend words/Kinds of Blending. The researchers use source triangulation to check the data from the researchers with the informant and theory triangulation to determine kinds of blending and blend word formation in social media. There are115 data of blend words. Those data consists of 65 data of Instagram, 47 data of Twitter, 1 datum of Facebook, and 2 data of Blackberry Messenger. There are 2 types of blending used in social media;108 data of blending with clipping and 7 data of blending with overlapping. There are 10 ways of blend word formation found in this research.

Abstract

This research aims at describing how brand names with English inIndonesian products are created. To analyze the data found theresearchers applied English word formation in English morphology. Thisis a descriptive research. The data were brand names using English foundin Indonesian product which were taken from three supermarkets in Solonamely Hypermart Solo Grand Mall, Hypermart Gorro Assalam, andCarefur from February up to April 2010. The research found that thebrand names with English in Indonesian products can be created byapplying word formation such as compounding, blending, affixation,reduplication, onomatopoeia, abbreviation, acronym and clipping. Theprocess of compounding consists of pure compounding and modificationcompounding, The process of blending includes the first syllable of thefirst words and the first syllable of the second words, the first syllable ofthe first words and the second syllable from the front of the secondwords., the first words and the last syllables of the second words, the firstwords and two syllables from the front of the second words, twosyllables from the front of the first words and the second words, twosyllables from the front of the first words and the first syllable of thesecond words, the first words and the two last syllables from the back ofthe second words, and the first words and the first syllables of the second words. The affixation process covers prefixes pro-, -bio and suffixes –y, -er, -ness, -ish, and –s. The process of reduplication includes puremodification, modification with intensifier meaning and reduplicationwith sound change. The process of abbreviation found is pureabbreviation and acronym. The process of clipping includes the clippingof letter and syllables. Keywords: Brand names; English word formation

Abstract

Kecepatan perkembangan teknologi dan Bahasa Inggris dalam dunia pendidikan mendorong pentingnya penguasaan bahasa Inggris bagi siswa sejak usia belia atau taman kanak-kanak (TK). Peningkatan kemampuan berbahasa inggris yang terbatas bagi Guru Taman Kanak-kanak (TK) mendorong kepedulian adanya pelatihan peningkatan berbicara bahasa Inggris bagi para Guru TK. Kegiatan pengabdian bertujuan untuk meningkatan kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris melalui Gambar dan meningkatan kewirausahaan kepada Guru TK Dukuh I Dan TK Dukuh II Kecamatan Mojolaban Kabupaten Sukoharjo sehingga anak-anak dapat mengenal bahasa Inggris sejak dini dari Guru mereka. Populasi peserta dari pengabdian ini adalah Para Guru TK Dukuh I Dan TK Dukuh II di Desa Dukuh, Mojolaban, Kabupaten Sukoharjo, sedangkan peserta yang hadir adalah kepala sekolah bersama Guru TK Dukuh I dan II Sukoharjo. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah Ceramah, presentasi, tutorial, dan praktek dengan menggunakan gambar. Media pembelajaran yang digunakan adalah pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan gambar dengan media yang sesuai untuk anak-anak TK, yaitu tokoh film kartun, animals, fruits, and vegetables, dan lainnya. Pengabdian dilaksanakan terdiri dari program peningkatan berbicara bahasa bahasa Inggris melalui gambar dan program kewirausahaan. Dampak pelaksanaan pengabdianantara lain Guru TK jadi lebih percaya diri dalam mengajar kewirausahaan dan berbicara bahasa Inggris kepada siswa didiknya. Disamping itu, proses penyampaian pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dapat disampaikan dengan metode yang tepat dan benar kepada siswa TK sehingga anak-anak senang dan menyukai bahasa Inggris sejak dini.
