Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the digital application “Potty Fun Kid’s” in enhancing toilet training independence among children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A pre-test–post-test design was employed involving 26 children with ASD enrolled in an inclusive school. The application was validated by media experts and subject matter experts prior to its six-week implementation as an intervention. Data were collected through observations of toilet training independence, questionnaires completed by teachers and parents, and semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed a significant increase in toilet training independence scores, from a pre-test mean of 152.88 (categorized as “moderately independent”) to a post-test mean of 231.35 (categorized as “independent”). Potty Fun Kid’s was rated as highly feasible by both media and subject matter experts, achieving a feasibility score of 90%. The majority of teachers and parents (92.9%) reported improvements in children’s toilet training independence, particularly in recognizing signs, following sequences, and communicating toileting needs. The visual schedule and reward system features were identified as the most effective components of the application. Observational data indicated an increase in successful toilet use rates from 40% to 100% and a reduction in dependence on assistance. In conclusion, Potty Fun Kid’s is effective in promoting toilet training independence among children with ASD by ensuring a consistent approach between school and home environments.

Abstract

Kemampuan pra-literasi membaca dan menulis anak usia dini di lapangan masih tergolong rendah. Berdasarkan hasil observasi awal, hal ini disebabkan oleh keterbatasan media pembelajaran yang kurang interaktif dan multisensori. Kondisi ini menuntut adanya inovasi media pembelajaran yang lebih efektif dan sesuai dengan karakteristik perkembangan anak. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran kartu huruf timbul serta menguji kelayakan dan keefektifannya dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pra-literasi membaca dan menulis pada anak usia dini kelompok usia lima sampai enam tahun di Taman Kanak-Kanak Negeri 01 Jagakarsa Jakarta Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) model 4D dengan subjek anak usia 5-6 tahun yang diujicobakan melalui tahap perorangan, kelompok kecil, dan lapangan. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, angket validasi ahli, serta uji coba penggunaan media kepada anak. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif dengan perhitungan persentase untuk menilai tingkat kelayakan media serta peningkatan kemampuan pra literasi anak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media kartu huruf timbul memiliki tingkat kelayakan sangat tinggi dengan persentase validasi ahli sebesar 91%. Uji coba penggunaan media juga menunjukkan peningkatan skor kemampuan pra-literasi anak sebesar 27.5% dari tahap awal hingga akhir uji coba. Anak menunjukkan peningkatan dalam mengenali huruf, membedakan bentuk huruf yang mirip, menyusun huruf menjadi kata sederhana, serta menelusuri bentuk huruf sebagai latihan menulis awal. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran kartu huruf timbul sangat layak dan efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca dan menulis awal anak usia dini.

Abstract

The rapid development of globalization and information technology has influenced children's exposure to various cultures from around the world. While this condition provides opportunities for children to broaden their perspectives, it may also reduce their familiarity with local cultural values. Early childhood education plays an important role in introducing cultural identity and local wisdom from an early age. Therefore, learning media that integrate cultural values into children's learning activities are needed. This study aims to develop a picture storybook based on the local wisdom of Ogan Ilir as a learning medium to introduce cultural values to early childhood and to determine its feasibility and effectiveness. This research used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model which includes Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The subjects of this study were 30 children aged 5–6 years in TK Pertiwi Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency. Data were collected through observation, interviews, expert validation questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test assessments. The results showed that the developed storybook obtained a feasibility score of 94% from material experts and 91% from media experts categorized as very feasible. The learning outcomes also showed improvement, with the average score increasing from 60.8 in the pre-test to 86.3 in the post-test.
