Abstract

Welding is one of the methods widely used in the joining of metals for structural elements. One of the factors that influence the strength of welded metals is types of welding joints. Suitability of the type of welding joint with geometries of base metals is required to obtain welded metal products with optimum properties. In this study an attempt is made to investigate mechanical properties of welded metals with two different types of joints (single-V and double-V) using the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process. Low carbon steel with bevel angle of 60° was used in this study. Welding process was performed using current of 70 A with a constant welding speed. The flexural properties and uniaxial tensile properties are studied by three-point bending test and uniaxial tensile test respectively. Test results show that the tensile strength and the bending strength of single-V specimens is 521.64 N/mm2 and 525.11 N/mm2 respectively. In addition, the tensile strength and the bending strength of double-V specimens is 517.33 N/mm2 and  504.24 N/mm2 respectively

Abstract

The availability of crucible furnaces is still limited, so the price in the market is relatively expensive, even though this tool is very important, especially in educational institutions as media for the practice of metal casting. The purpose of this study is to design, build and test the work of a crucible furnace that utilizes used cylinders by using LPG gas heat sources. The design of the furnace uses the autodesk inventor application while the manufacture uses machine tools. Technical data from this crucible furnace is that the body is made from used gas cylinders with an outer diameter of 280 mm, an inner diameter of 140 mm and a height of 490 mm. In the combustion chamber installed a 25.4 mm diameter gas pipeline with a length of 370.5 mm and an air channel diameter of 50.8 mm with a length of 367 mm. Kowi is made of steel with a 110 mm dimension and a height of 280 mm. The results of trials with aluminum smelting show that the crucible furnace is capable of melting 5 kg aluminum for 60 minutes with fuel consumption of 3 kg gas. The maximum temperature that can be reached 1367 oC for 15 minutes by a crucible furnace.Keywords: design, manufacture, furnace trials

Abstract

Handling of used aluminum has been carried out by collectors, namely the compression process. The pressing process is less economical because it still produces cavities and the selling price is low. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide training on Aluminum smelting with casting techniques for two groups of independent collectors, Mandiri Berkah and Maju Jaya. The activity took place in the Mandiri Berkah collector area which was attended by Mandiri Berkah and Maju Jaya employees and the community around Poasia. The method of implementing the activity is a theoretical explanation of Aluminum and its processing method with casting techniques. Used aluminum cans are melted in a charcoal-fired crucible furnace. The used aluminum cans are put in the kowi which is placed in a hot furnace. After the cans are melted, they are poured into rectangular molds. The results of the service activities that resulted were the opening of knowledge insights related to used aluminum. Participants were able to recycle Aluminum by casting technique into ingot products.Keywords: Training, foundry, aluminum, collectors

Abstract

Occupational Health and Safety (K3) is our effort to create a healthy and safe work environment so as to reduce the probability of occupational accidents and diseases due to negligence which results in demotivation and deficiency in work productivity. At PT. Equiport Inti Indonesia, the application of forklift operating safety regulations has not been carried out thoroughly. The non-implementation of the implementation of the regulations as a whole can trigger work accidents. The purpose of this final project is to find out the steps taken by the company in preventing work accidents in forklift operations. The method used in this final project uses interviews and direct observation in the company to fill in the checklist table that has been prepared as a data collection tool. The analysis in this final project uses a fishbone diagram. The use of fishbone diagrams is carried out to trace the causes and effects that arise from the deficiencies found that can lead to forklift work accidents. The results of this final project show that PT. Equiport Inti Indonesia still lacks in implementing safety standards in forklift operations, including the absence of pedestrian paths, incomplete forklift safety signs, and the operator's lack of seriousness in operating forklifts. From the results of this final project, it can be concluded that the company pays little attention to the procedures for implementing occupational safety and health in forklift operations.

Abstract

Natural composites are one of the smart materials that have the opportunity to replace the use of synthetic composites. and metal materials. Layered structural composites provide nearly uniform properties on all sides. The purpose of this study was to determine the mechanical properties of tensile, compressive and impact on the behavior of bamboo fiber polymer composites with a layered structure. This research method is experimental where the specimens are made in 2 quasine isotropic configuration configurations namely [+60/0/-60] and [+45/0/-45] with layer thicknesses of 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, respectively. and 2.0mm. The highest tensile strength is 8.173 N/mm2 in the [+60/0/-60] arrangement and the lowest is 6.196 N/mm2 in the [+45/0/-45] arrangement. The highest impact strength is 34.259 kJ/mm2 in the [+45/0/-45] array configuration and the lowest tensile strength is 10.775 kJ/mm2 in the [+60/0/-60] array configuration. The highest compressive strength is 15.856 N/mm2 in the configuration [+60/0/-60] arrangement and the lowest compressive strength is N/mm2 in the configuration [+45/0/-45]. The [+60/0/-60] array configuration has better mechanical properties than the [+45/0/-45] configuration. Where the tensile strength, compressive strength and impact strength increase with increasing layer thickness. Keywords: composite, layered structure, tensile, compressive and impact

Abstract

Pengembangan carbon fiber reinforced polymer untuk menjadi suatu material yang dapat diperhitungan dalam konstruksi sambungan. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik tegangan dan regangan tarik pada komposit CFRP berlubang. Untuk itu, metode penelitian yang dilakukan adalah menganalisis spesimen CFRP melalui pendekatan simulasi software abaqus. Hasil analisis pemodelan menunjukkan peningkatan konsentrasi tegangan yang terbesar terdapat pada konfigurasi 3 lubang baut vertikal dengan nilai tegangan tekan sebesar 179,1%, dan regangan 0,001155. tegangan terkecil terjadi pada spesimen 3 lubang horizontal dengan nilai tegangan 108,7 dan regangan 0,000723. Kata kunci – simulasi, tarik, CFRP, berlubang

Abstract

The abundance of bamboo prompted both partners Sri Jeki and Bambu Apus to set up a bamboo craft business in Kendari city. As the business goes on, the demand for various bamboo works continues to increase. Both craftsmen experienced difficulties in meeting production targets. So far, craftsmen only use machetes to split, sharpen, and thin bamboo in their production activities. The solution offered in this service activity is to introduce and provide appropriate technology training for bamboo defenders to accelerate and increase the production of bamboo crafts. The method of this activity is to train craftsmen in using appropriate technology for bamboo defenders to accelerate and increase the production capacity of bamboo crafts. The results obtained from this service activity are that the craftsmen can use the right technology for bamboo splitting tools safely and quickly so that their productivity increases.

Abstract

An electric car is a car that is driven by an electric motor and uses electrical energy stored in a battery. The use of electric cars is considered effective in addition to not causing air pollution and simpler engine construction. In the use of electric cars, of course, requires a frame that functions as a support for all the loads on the vehicle. A frame construction itself must have strength, light weight and have flexibility value. In the design of the frame (chassis) of electric cars has a purpose, namely the shape of the frame design (chassis) of electric cars and the strength of the frame (chassis) of electric cars with the bending test method. In the use of frame construction used type of ladder frame (H), for the frame material itself using non-ferrous metal materials, namely Aluminium. In the connection process, a drilling process is used for keeling nails, from the design of the frame (chassis) of an electric car with a length of 223.5 cm, front width of 47.5cm, middle and rear width 33 cm and frame weight 24.40 kg. The bending testing process here uses 2 driver loads of 45 kg and 82 kg. Measurements are carried out through the balance point on the frame that has been obtained, so that the bending test obtained a deflection value of 0.3 cm with a driver weight of 45 kg and 0.6 cm with a driver weight of 82 kg, In the position before the load is given and after the load is given the deflection back in the initial position of 15.4 cm. Thus, the frame (chassis) of an electric car has met the requirements of the vehicle frame, which has a value of flexibility or flexibility and is light and strong.
