Abstract

Being a teacher could be committed by anyone who has the passion in teaching, so that any situations in reality would not hamper him from the struggle to be a good teacher. Classroom is the laboratory for the teachers for their personal development. Students from whom the teachers can learn are their other assets. If an unfortunate system keeps going without any authority from the side of the teacher to change, being a quality teacher should still become teachers’ efforts to realize.

Abstract

This is a descriptive qualitative study that aims to describe Indonesian economists language attitude, specifically on the way they label the products.By means of behaviorist approach, the study raises an interpretation of the economists throughot observation. In order to come to the answer of the problem, data employed in this present study is the secondary data derived from other researchers. Then, the analysis of the data is employed by reviewing the labeling process in three ways, namely reasons for labeling, characteristics of the language attitude, and the Act 24 year 2009. It is figured out that there are 29 products labeled using foreign words or phrase, and the rest 11 products useIndonesia language. The phenomenon shows that labeling in foreign languages would enhance the positive image of the  product. On the other hand, positive attitude is shown by the economists through their loyalty using bahasa Indonesia for labelling. Final finding is to show that the attitude displays the conterproductive to the Act 24 of 2009.

Abstract

Recognizing our own learning strategies is an effective way to help ourselves to self evaluate for what we have done in our own learning. One among other factors leading to a successful learning is due to the effective learning strategies. However, not all learners are aware of  what they have been doing in learning, or they even sometimes do not know how to learn. If this is the problem, learning strategy training can be very beneficial for the learners with this problem. Why should be through strategy training?  The answer might lie on the fact that strategy is quite amenable to change, and by nature, teachable as well as learneable (Oxford, 1990). In addition, Nuswantara (2008) also found out that the successful learners (i.e. in learning English) were triggered by the courage of using various learning strategies, the more varied the learners are willing to try out, the broader the chance for success. Training is the way that can be selected to present to the learners’ various strategies that they can choose and at the same time employ when learning is taken place. Moreover, by means of training, learners are made aware of the strategy, and they can mend their own strategy, as a result, they become more self - directed rather than dependent. This article attempts to frame out from the perspective of how to bring  reading strategies that are applicable for handling various reading content texts to the learners, and present the result of a one-group experimental study. Thus, training is prepared for college learners who are inevitably deal with various English content textbooks and  the final aim of the training is to improve learners’ study skills. Then, one group experimental study using correlated sample provides some evidences supporting the effectiveness of the training.Specifying on reading strategies, SQ3R that is joined with other learning strategies involving writing activity, annotating a text and paraphrasing/summarizing is exposed to the learners. The effectiveness is assessed by means of reading comprehension test that assesses the ability of the learners to perceive information from a text they read. One group experimental study is aimed to measure the effectiveness of the treatment. Finally, the end product of the study is to give a support to the idea of strategy training for improving the quality of how to learn.

Abstract

English This study applies linguistic landscape theory to analyze the language usage on cultural heritage information boards in Surabaya. It also explores the communication obstacles that impede tourists from accessing heritage sites. A total of 63 images were selected from a collection of 277 photographs using qualitative descriptive methodologies and photographic techniques. These images effectively depict various landscapes and cultural heritage places. The dataset classified media into categories such as road signs, name signboards, information boards, cultural heritage plaques, and establishment plaques. Indonesian is the dominant language, representing the country's sovereignty, but English is used for international tourists. The historical identity of Surabaya is represented by Dutch, Japanese, and Latin influences. Although the language environment is favorable, there are still difficulties in tourism communication due to insufficient information, unreadable text, and media that is not easily available at heritage sites. This study highlights the importance of enhancing signpost design to improve tourist experiences and effectively communicate heritage tourism by making use of language variety Indonesia Penelitian ini menerapkan teori lanskap linguistik untuk menganalisis penggunaan bahasa pada papan informasi warisan budaya di Surabaya.
