Abstract

Stress level among master’s students of clinical psychology has been found to be high. The increased risk of stress has been linked with a range of negative outcomes, with serious implications for themselves, their clients, and their studies as a whole. The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between self-compassion and stress among master’s students of clinical psychology in clinical psychology training program. The research participants are 117 master’s students of clinical psychology from 17 universities in Indonesia that collected using snowball sampling technique. Self-compassion was measured with The Adaptation of Self Compassion Scale and stress was measured with The Adaptation of Perceived Stress Scale. All measurements had good reliability and validity. Data analysis was done using pearson correlation. The result of this study indicates that self-compassion has a significant negative correlation with stress (r -.522, p = .00). The three components of self-compassion, which are self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness, also have a significant negative correlation with stress. Therefore, it can be concluded that the higher self-compassion level students have, the lower their stress levels will be.
