Abstract

Pathet is one of the most important parts in a puppet performance. Unfortunately, discussions about pathets, especially from a metaphysical perspective are very rarely found so that the wayang metaphysics is not comprehensive. This study examines the metaphysical dimensions in the puppet performance pathet in Anton Bakker's metaphysical perspective, with the aim to complete the existing puppet metaphysics studies. This research uses the methodical method of assessment, namely interpretation; induction and deduction; internal coherence; holistic; historical continuity; idealization; comparison; heuristics; inclusive or analogous language; and description, and reflection. The results of this study indicate that: first, pathet is a representation of the concept of harmony in puppet shows. Pathet is a transcendental ontological norm in puppet shows. Transcendental ontological norms, in the perspective of Anton Bakker's ontology thinking, are called harmony. In other words, it can be said that the pathet is a representation of harmony or ontological norms that apply in a puppet show. All aesthetic elements of the show are returned to the pathet, and must remain in the corridor of the applicable pathet.

Abstract

Abstract

Talking about sex is often regarded as a taboo subject and something that should not be discussed in public. In fact, understanding the true nature of sexuality is very important and even necessary in order to avoid deviant sexual behavior. This study aims to examine the philosophical dimension of Smara Sādhanā, or sacred sexuality, in the Kama Tattwa manuscript through the perspective of Tantrāyāna philosophy, by referring to three principal Balinese Hindu palm-leaf manuscripts, namely Smara Krida Laksana, Resi Sembina, and Rahasya Sanggama. This research employs a qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach. The findings show that Smara Sādhanā represents an integral spiritual system grounded in Tantrāyāna non-dualism, in which sexual union symbolically represents and simultaneously actualizes the metaphysical unity between Puruṣa (consciousness) and Prakṛti (creative energy). Ontologically, sexuality is understood as a manifestation of cosmic energy; epistemologically, knowledge of sexuality is derived from the authority of sacred texts (śabda pramāṇa), direct experience (pratyakṣa), reasoning (anumāna), and ultimately reaches direct spiritual realization (aparokṣānubhūti); and axiologically, the concept of Smara Sādhanā upholds values of bodily sanctity, respect, compassion, and spiritual responsibility. Thus, the human body is viewed as a microcosm, and sanggama (sexual union) becomes a medium for attaining higher consciousness (ānanda). This study finds that the Kama Tattwa manuscript contains a profound philosophical discourse on sacred sexuality that challenges reductionist and moralistic interpretations of sex. Instead, these texts present sexuality as a path of spiritual transformation integrated within dharma and ethical relations among human beings. The conclusion of this study is that, in the Hindu perspective, sex is regarded as a sacred activity and understood as a form of sādhanā, a view that is likewise emphasized in Tantrāyāna philosophy. Therefore, by understanding sexual activity as something sacred, it is expected that sexual conduct can be placed in accordance with the teachings of Dharma and that deviant sexual behavior can be avoided.

Abstract

This research looks at the main stupa at Borobudur and how it works like a big shadow tool for the sky. It seems tied to older Javanese views on the universe and what people knew about farming back then. Sources on old astronomy and building studies were compared in a descriptive way, along with some historical notes. The layout and carvings probably hold details on time and crops, so the monument could pass things along to people nearby. I think the shadows line up at certain points in the year with a local calendar that splits the seasons into twelve. That part feels like it helped share practical knowledge with farmers around the area. Some of the alignments might connect to Buddhist ideas too, but it is not totally clear how far that goes. The design has layers that do not always fit together neatly in what gets discussed. This paper brings together archeoastronomy and communication theory in a new framework. It fills a gap by treating cosmological communication as layers of symbols and environmental knowledge that get passed on. I think that part stands out as useful, but maybe it oversimplifies the connections. The findings point to a need for stronger heritage protection. Not just the buildings, but the living knowledge about the cosmos that stays tied to them. Using secondary sources has some limits, though. It feels like primary field observations and direct solar measurements could help later studies. Some details might still need checking in person.
