Abstract

Repeat breeding in dairy cows is a reproductive disorder characterized by a length of calving interval. This research was aimed to determine levels of blood glucose and total protein as one of the causes of repeat breeding. This research used ten repeat breeding Friesian Holstein cross breeds at the age of 3-8 years old from Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. They have had birth at least once, normal reproductive cycle, and in a healthy condition. Ten ml blood samples of each cow from jugular vein were collected and analyzed at LPPT UGM. Blood glucose and total protein plasm were examined using a photometer Microlab 300 with a spectrophotometer. The data ware analyzed descriptively. The results showed that dairy cows with repeatedbreeding case had lower blood glucose and total protein plasm concentrations than that of the normal. The average concentrations of blood glucose and total protein plasm were 48.58±6.675 mg/dl and 6.815±821 g/dl, respectively.

Abstract

Recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) is one of the biotechnology-based drugs that are needed by the human medicine and has also been used in the veterinary medicine. Currently RhEPO has been widely used in the world of human medicine for the treatment of anaemia caused by renal failure, cancer, chronic inflammation and AIDS. In veterinary medicine, although there is still not much data on its achievements, rhEPO has also been used for cases of chronic renal failure in dogs and cats. However, since rhEPO is not identical to feline EPO and canine EPO, some patients eventually produce antibodies against the drug. The antibodies not only prevent EPO therapy from being effective, but also may lead to severe and life-threatening anemia. This paper provides a review of the use of RhEPO, rfEPO and rcEPO in veterinary medicine, especially for the purpose of non-regenerative anemia therapy in cases of chronic renal failure in dogs and cats.

Abstract

In countries with high plant biodiversity such as Indonesia, the availability of food of plant origin is very diverse. The presence of anti-nutrients in plants would potentially cause problems in cattle if not managed properly. phytic acid is one anti nutritional factor  that have a role in disrupting the health and productivity The term phytate refers to the molecule phytic acid, which generally acts as a chelate to Mg, Ca, Na, and K, and in some cases protein and carbohydrates. Seeds of cereals, legumes and oilseed plant which is used as animal feed usually contains a lot of phytic acid which can cause a decline in nutritional value. However, with a variety of processing methods, levels of phytic acid in animal feed can be reduced or even eliminated. In addition to the processing method, the method of adding phytase enzyme may also be done to improve the nutritional value of the animal feed ingredients.Keywords:anti-nutrients.phytic acid. processingmethods.phytase
