Abstract

Tanning process using free chromed material is needed to reduce toxic content in leather. The aims of this study is to increase byproducts of livestock by goat skin tanning with free chrome tanning materials. This study used glutaraldehyde as tanning materials. Goat skins were tanned become upholstery leather, and then physical quality was determined. The materials of this study were pickle goat skin. Physical testing conducted in Balai Besar Kulit, Karet dan Plastik (BBKKP) Yogyakarta. The results were analyzed descriptively using SPSS version 17.0 for Windows. Statistical analysis showed that the value of tensile strength, elongation, tear strength, sewing strength, scrub resistance of paint to dry and wet were 166.025 ± 72.315 kg/cm²; 69.910 ± 9.107%; 26.785 ± 6.031 N/cm; 115.120 ± 18.681 kg/cm; 0.775 ± 0.353; 0.775 ± 0.353 respectively. This study showed that the physical quality of upholstery leather which tanned using free chrome tanning materials have the physical qualities that met with SNI standard for leather upholstery.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kualitas kulit crust kambing pada artikel upper. Bahan baku yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu kulit wetblue kambing 5 lembar. Bahan kimia yang digunakan diantaranya air, Asam formiat, surfactant (Peramit MLN), Neutrigan (Tanigan PAK), Natrium formiat, Natrium bikarbonat, Resin akrilik (Drasil AMP), Resin melamin (Retingan MLF), Resin diciandiamid (Tsyntan RT12), Penetrating agent (Coralon OT), Tara (Sodatan TVT), Sulfited fish oil (Derminol SPE), Phenolic syntan (Tsyntan TO), Mimosa, Chesnut, Levelling agent (Dermagen GPA), Acid dyestuff, Syntetic oil (Glycermax 52N), Lecitin oil (Sedaflor LC 13), Lanolin oil (Provol 100), Emulsifier (Pellan GLH), Resin kationik (Sincal DRA), Anti jamur (Preventol Cr).

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the physical structure of goat skins tanned with aluminium as an alternative tanning agent. Methods: Twelve pieces of goat skin from the pikle breed were used in the study. Chromosal B, an aluminium tanning agent, Novaltan Al, salt (NaCl), Derminol OCS, MgO, Sodium bicarbonate, a BCG indicator, Permit MLN, and an anti-fungal are among the chemicals utilized. The approach involves tanning using chrome tanning as a control and aluminum tanning with amounts of 2%, 4%, and 6% Al2O3. Cross-sectional tests were used to assess the wet white leather's results, and the SEM-EDX method was used to determine the leather's composition. Results: Leather tanned with aluminium tanning agent shows the distribution of aluminium in the skin section, the increasing use of aluminium tanning materials, the higher the aluminium content in tanned leather. Conclusions: The presence of aluminium tanning agent in the skin indicates an interaction between the material and the skin so that it can be used as an alternative tanning agent.
