Abstract

This study aims to determine the existence of significant differences in students who carry out learning using the two stay two stray model and learning styles towards learning outcomes. The design used in this study is the Pre-Experimental Design design of the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The technique of data analysis using validity and reliability tests. The average results of the pretest and posttest values obtained in the research subjects (class IV) showed that there was an increase before the treatment and after treatment, both students who had the type of visual learning style, audiovisual and kinesthetic. In the type of visual learning style, the pretest score was 65.24 while the posttest score was 79.17. For the type of audio-visual learning style, the pretest score was 66.74, while the posttest score was 82.26 and for the last type, the kinesthetic learning style obtained a pretest score of 67.32 while the posttest score was 84.75. All types of student learning styles experience increased learning outcomes when given treatment with model two stay two strays. So from that shows that the learning model of two stay two stray with visual learning style, audiovisual and kinesthetic experiences a significant increase in improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the main skills that students must mastered in order to respond the challenges of globalization and the demands of skilled labor in this disruption era. Various learning models, methods and strategies are developed to meet these objectives. One of the way is the implementation of teaching materials in the form of Independent Learning Activity Unit (UKBM) in learning to foster students' critical thinking skills. The focus of this study is to describe students' responses to the implementation of UKBM in social science programs based on discovery learning to foster students' critical thinking skills. This study used an explanatory mix method research design with a percentage technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations and interviews. Data analysis was carried out in four stages; collection, reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions. This study found several things: 1) UKBM in social science programs are effectively foster critical thinking skills; 2) the most prominent assessment is the aspect of student interest in an attractive UKBM design; 3) the assessment is less prominent in the aspect of discovery learning approach in learning because it requires a long time and seriousness of teachers and students. This paper recommends the implementation of other learning models at UKBM to foster critical thinking skills. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um022v6i12921p9

Abstract

Community empowerment is a strategy used in community development as an effort to achieve competence and independence in social, national and state life. (Permendagri No. 7 of 2007). The government's empowerment strategy for small businesses has not been optimal. The problem is that small businesses do not have the ability to finance their businesses because they are vulnerable to capital, small businesses tend to have low ability to use technology. This research aims to find out how to empower small businesses in Medan City. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques use data display, data reduction and verification and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of research on strategies for empowering small businesses in the city of Medan, it can be seen from the development dimension (enabling), the lack of training and development programs means that small business actors are not developing their businesses. Strengthening the potential (empowering) of capital and equipment assistance is still lacking and there is no equality in the distribution of this assistance. Furthermore, the dimension of creating independence for some small business actors still needs guidance to run their businesses independently. It is hoped that the empowerment of Small Businesses in the City of Medan can be increased to create independent Small Businesses which can have an impact on expanding employment opportunities and improving the economy of local communities

Abstract

Equal access to education is part of fulfilling the rights of citizens, both within the country and abroad. The government, through the Ministry of Education, repatriates the children of migrant workers to obtain the right to study in Indonesia through partner schools of the Ministry of Education and Culture. This study analyzes repatriation as an educational alternative for the children of Indonesian migrant workers. Lack of documentation is a problem for them regarding administrative requirements, especially in education. Data was collected through observation and interviews with repatriates. Data collection was considered easy because the researcher was directly involved in the daily activities of the repatriates. Field findings indicate that their current course of study helps with their education and living expenses. Despite language difficulties, they feel comfortable because a representative educational environment supports them. Their adaptation is also fast because there are several similarities between Blitar and their origins while abroad. The purpose of repatriation in the field of education is none other than educational equality. Collaborative support from the government (Ministry of Education) and the person responsible for repatriation in Blitar makes repatriates feel at ease pursuing education in Indonesia. The learning environment influences the latent pattern of nationalist character formation for repatriates. Many factors shape the social resilience of repatriates.

Abstract

According to behaviorism theory, reward and punishment are needed to encourage desired behavior and prevent unwanted behavior. Rewards will be given to students who successfully implement the program and punishment will be given to students who violate or do not carry out the program properly. This study aims to determine the effect of giving rewards and punishments through a program called “Kata-Kata Berharga” on the behavior of ex-student of a junior high school in the Bangkalan area. The theory used in this research is the stimulus and response theory of B. F Skinner. The research is an ex-post-facto. Data analysis used simple linear regression which later showed that this program greatly influenced the behavior change of the ex-student of the junior high school, as seen from Rcount>Rtable which is 0.745>0.246. The balance between reward and punishment can create a sense of security and reward at the same time, according to the theory of motivation in Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
