Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the structure that builds the novel Di Bawah langit yang Samaby Helga Rif; and (2) the sociological aspects contained in the novel Di Bawah Langit yang Sama by Helga Rif. The theory used in this research is Stanton's structural theory and literary sociology Ian Watt. Data collection methods used are library methods as well as reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analytic methods. Data analysis techniques using reading, interpretive, and note taking techniques. The results of this study indicate that the intrinsic elements analyzed in the novel under the same sky include: characterizations, plots, and settings. The sociological aspects analyzed in the novel Di Bawah Langit yang Sama are social aspects, moral aspects, education aspects, economic aspects, and love aspects. Social aspects are shown in the lives of Balinese people. Moral aspects found are good morals. The educational aspects analyzed include formal and informal education. Economic aspects are analyzed using social stratification, namely upper class and middle class society. Aspects of romance discuss the love of different religions between Indira and Maximilian.

Abstract

The object of this research is the novel Bapak, Kapan Kita Akan Berdamai?. This research is motivated by psychological phenomenon of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on Marolop character. The theory used in the research is the structural theory of Burhan Nurgiyantro, and the theory of literary psychology of Albertine Minderop, Endraswara, and Wahyudi Siswanto, as well as the theory of post traumatic stress disorder namely Emotional and psychological trauma: causes, symptomps, effects, andtreatment of Jaffe. Stuctural theory explains the object of research in three intrinsic elements, namely: characterization, plot, and background. The theory of literary psychology explains several theories related to some psychological psychological theories into this research, namely: the theory of personality structure of psychoanalysis and PTSD theory. The formulation of the problem to be discussed consists of two, namely: structural analysis which includes, characterization, plot, and background, and PTSD phenomena on Marolop. The purpose of this research is to know the novel structure of BKKAB in terms of characterization, plot, and background, and PTSD phenomenon on Marolop. Methods and techniques used in this study there are three, namely: (1) methods and techniques of data collection, used library methods and techniques used is the technique of reading, record; (2) methods and techniques of data analysis used descriptive analysis method, followed by reading and listening techniques; (3) methods and techniques of presenting the results of data analysis described in the format of writing a good and correct thesis. Analysis structure according to Nurgiyantoro cover three aspects namely, characterization, plot and background. Based on the analysis of the psychoanalytic personality structure associated with PTSD, the characters in the BKKAB novel affect each other psychically between one character and another. In the PTSD figures forming a linkage that is, Marolop as victims of physical abuse, the father as the perpetrator, and the mother as a unifier.

Abstract

This study analyzed the novel LiakNgakak by Putra Mada using sociological approach that focuses on the study of sociology of literature and social interaction. The issues that were analyzed in this study are (1) How is the structure of novel LiakNgakak including its characterization, plot, and setting. (2) How is the social interaction of East-West culture in novel LiakNgakak viewed from the aspect of sociology of literature. The theories used in this study were the structural theory and the sociology of literature theory. Structural theory was used to analyze the intrinsic elements, while the sociological theory of literature was employed to assess the social interaction of East-West culture in novel LiakNgakak. To analyze the intrinsic elements, a theory proposed by Nurgiyantoro was used, while on the other hand, a theory proposed by Damono, John LuwisGillin and John Philip Gillin was used to analyze the social cultural interaction of the East-West culture.

Abstract

The object of this study was the novel Hunus by Sunaryono Basuki Ks. The novel Hunus was analyzed by using theory of structure and theory of literature sociology. The using of theory of literature sociology in this study was proper because the novel Hunus had an intense social depiction of traditional belief about the supernatural power of kris. The problems of study discussed were the structure of the novel and the myth of kris within the aspects of culture, religion, and education that were revealed in the novel Hunus. The structure of the novel Hunus encompassed: plots, characterization, and backgrounds. The plots of the novel Hunus used the plot of mix. The characterization was divided into the main character and the additional characters, the main character was Anthony Wright, and the additional characters were Anak Agung Ngurah Ari Maharani, Wayan, Husni, and Ida Bagus Sudiara. The background of place happened in Jakarta and England, the background of time was in 1990’s, and the background of social told about the life of Balinese people. The myth of kris in the novel Hunus was focused on three aspects; they were the aspects of culture, religion, and education. The aspect of culture discussed about the ceremony of Tumpek Landep. In the novel, it was explained about the procedures of Balinese people in purifying heirlooms, in this case it was kris, on the ceremony of Tumpek Landep. The aspect of religion discussed about the religious background of the characters who believed in the myth of kris. Tony with his personal religious principle considered that the myth of kris was just a fairytale or superstition which only applied to the people who believed it. Meanwhile Gung Ari (Tony’s wife) was Hindu that she believed in the myth of kris from generation to generation in the form of religious advice that had to be believed as customs which had existed in Balinese society. Then, his thought changed when he experienced the spiritual power of kris that "killed" everytime being impaled. Meanwhile Gung Ari (Tony's wife) was Hindu that she believed in the myth of kris from generation to generation in the form of spiritual advice or the ritual of Tumpek Landep that had to be believed. The aspect of education discussed about the education obtained by the religious characters that influenced the perspective towards the myth of kris that happened in the conflict of the novel. Getting the same formal education, but Gung Ari obtained an informal education from her family about the myth of kris. The myth of kris in the novel Hunus taught us that we must respect every faith in a society even though we were not born and grown in the belief of that myth.
