Abstract

Makalah ini yang berjudul "Code Switching in the short story at the cadian ball by kate chopin". Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis alih kode di dalam cerita pendek yang berjudul at the cadian ball by kate chopin. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berdasarkan pada teori Poplack (Dalam Romaine, 1995) yang membagi jenis alih kode dalam tag switching, inter sentential switching dan intra sentential switching. Dan untuk alasan code switching, berdasarkan teori dari Grosjean (1982). Data diambil dari seluruh bagian cerita pendek. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengindetifikasi dan mengklarifikasi ahli kode berdasarkan jenis ahli kode dan alasan ahli kode. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan ada tiga jenis ahli kode, mereka adalah:tag switching, inter sentential switching, dan intra sentential switching. code switching yang paling dominan ditemukan dalam short story ini adalah intra sentential switching, sedangkan yang paling sedikit adalah tag switching. untuk alasan, hanya ditemukan 4 dari 10 jenis alasan, yaitu: Continue the last language used (triggering). Specify addressee. Qualify message: amplify or emphasize (“topper” in argument). Convey confidentiality, anger, annoyance.

Abstract

This research focuses on Cultural shock faced by the main character in James L. Brook's movie Spanglish. The aims of this undergraduate thesis are to identify what stages of cultural shock faced by main characters in the movie and analyze how is the character performing their problem-solving process. In collecting the data the student used note-taking and documentation method and techniques. The data was obtained by watching the movie and taking notes on each scene. Following the data analysis stating Oberg's theory about the stages of Culture Shock and for Problem-solving process used Qin's theory. This research uses qualitative method, and presenting the data formally and informally. The result from the analysis is that Cristina and Flor experienced all of the stages of Cultural shock, which are honeymoon, crisis, adjustment, and adaptation stages. In the crisis stage, many problems and difficulties have been found. The process of problem-solving pursues a term problem and its analysis result. Furthermore, it pursues the problematic and circumstances that accompany the particular problem and appear during its solving.

Abstract

This paper explores the illocutionary acts performed by the main characters in the 2018 movie "The Nun," directed by Corin Hardy. The study focuses on Sister Irene and Father Burke, examining their dialogues to identify and analyze the types and meanings of illocutionary acts based on Austin's speech act theory. This research used a qualitative research method, the thesis investigates how the characters' utterances convey specific meanings and intentions within the context of the film's narrative. The technique of data collection in this research was collected by downloading the movie script, watching the movie, reading the dialogue in movie script, taking notes and collecting the data in table in order to make the writer is easier in analyzing the illocutionary acts. The analysis reveals various types of illocutionary acts, such as verdictives, exercitives, commissives, expositives, and behabitives, and discusses their implications in the movie's context. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of language use in cinematic dialogues and provides insights into the pragmatic aspects of character communication in film.
