Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect of pulsing solutions and soaking time to extend the freshness of the white roses cut flower (Rosa hybrida L.) as well as to obtain the best treatments combination of the two variables. The research is consisted of 8 treatment combinations, each treatment was repeated 3 times to obtain 24 treatments. The research uses a completely randomized design (CRD) method with two experiment factors. The first factor is the component of the pulsing solution consisting of 3 parts: Sucrose 5% + 250 ppm AgNO3 + Citric Acid 75 ppm, Sucrose 10% + 500 ppm AgNO3 + Citric Acid 150 ppm and Sucrose 15% + 650 ppm AgNO3 + Citric Acid 300 ppm. The second factor is the immersion time consists of two parts, namely: 4 hours and 8 hours. The analysis was carried out every two days with replacement of water every two days stored at room temperature (27 ± 1)0C for 12 days. The combination of pulsing solution treatment and soaking time had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on the total absorption and had no significant effect (p>0,05) on changes in weight, color score test, withered, bent neck and efflorescence of level. The best combination of treatments solution pulsing treatment is 15% sucrose + 650 ppm AgNO3 + 300 ppm Citric Acid with 8 hours immersion resulting in an average total absorption of 10,48 ml, an average rate of weight changes 9,8 %, the average color test score was 3.2, the average wilt level test score was 3.6, the average bent neck test score was 3.6 and average rate of flowering 63,89%. It can be concluded that white roses are affected by the concentration of the pulsing solution because the concentration of the pulsing solution gives changes to white rose cut flowers.

Abstract

Chickpeas are a type of legume that is easily respired, thus affecting the freshness of the product and causing a decrease in product quality. This study was to determine the effect of temperature differences and the type of perforated plastic packaging (PP and PE) on the freshness of green beans to get the best treatment. This study used a factorial randomized block design with two treatment factors. The first factor consisted of a temperature of 6 oC, 8 oC, and 10 oC. The second factor consisted of PP and PE plastic packaging types with eight perforated holes with 5 mm diameter and a plastic size of 11.4 cm x 24 cm that stored for 15 days. The results showed that the single treatment of temperature had a noticeable effect on the weight, the texture, total dissolved solids, the color L a b, the visual quality, 99lastic99ptic texture, 99lastic99ptic aromas, and overall reception. While the single treatment of packaging types has a real effect on weight shrinkage, total dissolved solids, and freshness tests. The interaction between packaging types and temperature has a noticeable effect on total dissolved solids, L and b colors, and freshness tests (visual quality, texture, aroma, and overall observation). Based on DMRT treatment (PE plastic and temperature 6℃) is the best cold storage, because the smallest weight shrinkage by 6.74%, embezzlement of color (a) by -0.66, color yellowing (b) by 1.61 and decrease in the average value of the best freshness test by 0.94 until the 15th day.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the type of container (bamboo basket, plastic basket, and cardboard) on the physical characteristics and quality of tomatoes during the distribution process using ground transportation simulation. This study used a 2 factorial randomized block design (RBD) with 3 repetitions. The results of this study indicate that the maximal physical damage occurred in the bamboo basket container within 5 hours of treatment because the bamboo basket has rough sides and high porosity of 4.078% (physical damage in the form of increased scratches and bruises and decreased hardness). Minimal damage occurred in the cardboard container with a 1-hour treatment because it has a smooth coating of the container and not too high porosity, namely 3.960%. The best container to use in the tomato distribution process using a ground transportation simulation is a cardboard container (having low porosity the cardboard and a smooth container layer) so can be maintained the condition of the tomatoes.
