Abstract

Porophaloenopsis laycockii is an epiphytic orchid, endemic to Borneo. The orchid is not widely known since this orchid is rare and the trade of this species is restricted by the law. An observation was made to provide information on plant morphology and leaf anatomy of the species. Among various characters recorded, it was noted that the pencil-or-rat-tail-like leaf is about 5.66 mm in diameter and up to 1 m in length. It has relatively large stomata measuring 66.8 x 57.3 pm with low stomata density of 16.3 stomata per mm° of leaf surface area. These characters may influence its water management so that the plant should be grown and maintained in shade for better establishment.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the anatomical structure of leaves of Artemisia cina Berg. ex Poljakov due to variances in leaf morphology during grown in vitro. Shaking of culture, position of stem nodes used as explants and concentration of BAP (Benzyl Amino Purin) added to the culture medium were the factors investigated in this study. There was variation in leaves morphology of culture, however this variation did not occur after aclimatization and plant grown in the greenhouse. BAP decreased the level of chlorophyll content of leaves. In general, anatomical characters of leaves were not influenced by shaking, nodes position of stem and level of BAP.

Abstract

One of the bioindicators of soil fertility is soil macrofauna. Macrofauna acts as a decomposer of organic matter so that it can increase nutrient distribution and improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil. Soil macrofauna is also very sensitive to environmental changes. Changes in land use for oil palm commodity production areas are related to changes in soil biodiversity. This study aims to compare the diversity of soil macrofauna in oil palm plantations of different ages. This research was conducted by survey method and determining the location of research with the Purpossive Sampling method. Sample points were taken on the palm oil disc, live and interrow. Sampling was done using a box sampler, followed by a hand sorting method and identified to the family level. Macrofauna calculations are performed on the number of families, population density (KP), relative density (KR), Shannon-Wiener index (H ') and evenness index (E'). Data obtained were analyzed statistically using a t-test at 5% level. The results showed that the average number of soil macrofauna families tended to be higher in 13 year old oil palms in interrow (GM), namely 12.83 ± 1.33. Eight families of soil macrofauna that have a higher population density and relative density than other families are Termitidae, Formicidae, Lumbricidae, Cylisticidae, Lithobiidae, Anisolabidiidae, Mecistocphalidae, and Geophilidae. The diversity index of soil macrofauna in 13 year old oil palms tends to be higher in the interrow (GM) area, namely 2.49 ± 0.18 (medium) compared to the others. The evenness index of soil macrofauna in 5 year and 13 year old oil palms was included in the high category (>0.5), namely 0.63-0.73.

Abstract

Abstract. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) which aims to explain the planning, teacher and student activities, and improving students' Arabic listening skills by using videoscribe  learning media. The subjects of this study are 24 students in class VIID MTs DDI Cambalagi Maros. The data collection techniques in this study are observation and test. This research was carried out in two cycles and each cycle consisted of two meetings. The results of the study showed that there was an increase in students' listening ability by 10% from cycle I to cycle II. These results show that videoscribe  learning media can be applied in improving students' Arabic listening skills Keywords: Listening, Arabic, videoscribe media
