Abstract

A field research was conducted in Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK) to reveal the biodiversity of Gastropoda which live associated with mangrove ecosystem. As many as 793 specimens were collected and identified. These specimen consisted of 14 families, 27 genera and 59 species which could be classified into: Native molluscs (37 species, 62.71%), Facultative molluscs (5 species, 8.47%) and Visitor mollusks (17 species, 28.81%). Within Native molluscs, 19 (51.35%) from 37 species were confirmed as new records from TNUK since they had not been recorded before. One family of Facultative molluscs, the Onchidiidae (Onchidium chameleon, O. damelli dan O. patelloides) was confirmed as new record from mangrove of Java. Totally from 59 species found here, 33 species (55.95%) were confirmed as new records, the other 26 species had already been recorded by TNUK. Some interactions (predation, mating and aggregation) among individuals were also observed in the field.

Abstract

Humans have known mollusks for a long time. The diverse and unique shell shapes are interesting to draw. The easiest medium to describe the shape of a mollusk is in two dimensions. This study aims to identify various images of mollusks in two-dimensional print media such as cloth, paper and plates. Based on the 10 sources of photos analyzed, 56 species of mollusks from 38 families were identified. The Gastropod class dominates with 45 species from 31 families, followed by Bivalves with 7 species from 5 families, then Cephalopods with 4 species from 2 families. Some of the problems found are the shape and proportion of images that different with specimens, some inverted or cropped images, different direction of rotation of the shells with specimens, and different colour patterns with specimens. Biological and distributional aspects of several families will be discussed briefly in this paper.

Abstract

Many small lakes in Bogor and surrounding areas continue to shrink by silting and land conversion that will affect the diversity of aquatic fauna species, including freshwater snails. Research on the diversity and distribution of freshwater snails was conducted in Bogor Regency (Situ Cilalay, Situ Ciriung, Situ Kabantenan) and Sukabumi (Situ Gunung) in September-November 2017. This study identified freshwater snail species, analyzed the similarity of species composition and distribution, and analyzed the influencing environmental factors. Snail sampling from each lake was carried out at three stations using 5 x 1 m2 plots. A total of 936 individual specimens from 12 stations have been collected and identified, consisting of 7 families and 12 species of freshwater snails. Filopaludina javanica dominates the population in Situ Cilalay, Situ Ciriung, and Situ Kabantenan with the presence of 417 individuals (44.5%), while Melanoides tuberculata is the most widely distributed species found in 11 of 12 stations. The presence of two species, Clea sp. found in Situ Cilalay and Polypylis kennardi found in Situ Ciriung and Situ Kabantenan, has not been reported previously.
