<![CDATA[The motivation of reading the academic text, especially in the English language, has been a problem for students of higher education. Whereas, reading ability is one of the important factors of studentsâ successful learning. This research aims to analyze the role of studentâs self-efficacy in the level of motivation to read the textbooks in the English Language. This research applied quantitative approach. The population of this research is the whole students majoring in Management, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Islam Indonesia, that take Basic Academic Reading course in the first semester. The researchâs primary data was collected by closed questionnaire, and supported by structured interviews (by 90% response rate). Meanwhile, the sampling technique used is purposive random sampling, and data analysis method used is Pearson Product Momentâs correlative coefficient. The result of this research revealed that studentsâ Self-Efficacy (SE) has a significant positive influence on their Motivation in Interest Aspect (MI), Motivation in Dedication Aspect (MD), and Motivation in Self-confidence Aspect (MC).]]>

<![CDATA[This article is an attempt to study Steinbeck’s vision of the American system of capitalism during 1930’s as causing the greatest economic crisis in American history. The study particularly observes the growth of materialistic values in this era. The main discussion concerns the dramatic journey of Joad’s family toward California as reflected in The Grapes of Wrath.With an interdisciplinary approach, the study examines the novel to comprehend the author’s view about his social phenomena. This is a kind of qualitative research in which the researcher applied library research on The Grapes of Wrath. The data gathered from bibliographical sources was analyzed and written descriptively to describe the seamy side of capitalism in America.The result of this research shows that material success is not the human’s only orientation in his life. The great depression and tragic life of Oklahoma tenant farmers were viewed by the author as due to the impact of uncontrolled American Capitalism in 1930’s. The seamy sides of American Capitalism such as greed, selfishness, corruption, and consumptive behavior, etc. have been described by the author as source of the extensive destruction among American people.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to discuss the effect of digital literacy level on independent language learning skills and effective learning abilities. The research respondents (n = 147) were the students of Universitas Islam Indonesia from various years who took English courses as General Education (MKU). Respondents were chosen randomly from students who participated in researcher English courses. This research is quantitative. The data was obtained through a Likert scale questionnaire with a range number; 0-1 and 1-5. The quantitative data were analyzed by correlation (Pearson product-moment) and regression (ANOVA) techniques. The results displayed; first, there is no significant effect of digital literacy variables on Self-Regulated language learning skills. Second, there is a substantial impact of digital literacy on effective learning abilities. Third, there is a significant impact of Self-Regulated language learning on effective language learning. This study suggested that higher education institutions need to provide formal programs in training or workshops to increase digital literacy capacity and student academic skills to achieve effective learning goals.]]>

<![CDATA[Kekerasan perempuan di era digital saat ini menjadi perhatian bersama, salah satunya adalah adanya kesenjangan akses dan literasi digital. Metode pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan cara membentuk komunitas perempuan yang tertarik dengan isu pemberdayaan perempuan. Pendekatan pengabdian menggunakan pendekatan andragogi. Kasus yang diangkat adalah masih banyaknya kekerasan perempuan di era digital yang menyebabkan ketidakberdayaan bagi perempuan. Teknis pengabdian dilaksanakan dengan beberapa tahapan, yakni tahapan kualifikasi peserta, tahapan pelaksanaan workshop kepenulisan dan tahapan rencana tindak lanjut. Hasil pengabdian yakni peserta mengalami perubahan tingkat pemahaman yakni sebesar 45% tentang strategi dan metode menulis di media massa. 37% pemahaman peserta meningkat tentang isu kekerasan perempuan di media massa. 30% peserta termotivasi untuk berdakwah dengan menulis isu perempuan melalui media massa. Pemberdayaan perempuan penting dilakukan sebagai upaya untuk memaksimalkan potensinya. Setiap perempuan memiliki kesempatan untuk mengatualisasikan dirinya dengan melibatkan diri untuk berdakwah di masyarakat. Di era digital saat ini, perempuan harus adaptif dengan perkembangan Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Teknologi (IPTEK) untuk melakukan perubahan kondisi sosial masyarakat.]]>

<![CDATA[This paper aims at examining Ralph Waldo Emerson’s view on the principle of environmental ethics as reflected in his essay entitled “Nature.” The study of this research applied to content analysis. The writer intended to explore, understand and capture the messages of the work art. So, the writer built explored conception (environmental ethics) before coming into a work of art. The main result displayed six environmental ethics: respecting nature, cosmic solidarity, love and caring for nature, no harm, simplicity and harmony life with nature, and moral integrity. <![CDATA[This article examines education issues in a documentary movie entitled “Waiting for Superman.” To do this research, the author applied the literary research method to find words, phrases, sentences, and scenes that explore the education problems in America. Meanwhile, the sociology of literature was employed to understand the social background and context of a particular story. The research found four issues in the movie: public education spending, students’ literacy level, conflicting regulations, and teacher unions. This research has contributed to American Studies by understanding the fundamental problem of American people in education. It has also taught educational stakeholders how to maintain a high-quality learning activity.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aims to get description of Cooperative Learning application using Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) type to improve students’ motivation and independence learning level. The applied research method was classroom action research. The observations have been done during seven cycles to research the subjects; those are students of Basic Academic Reading Class C of 2018/2019 at department of management, faculty of economy, Universitas Islam Indonesia. The result showed that the number of students achieving maximum scores (A) has significantly increased, up to 31% of previous year as the baseline. Meanwhile, the average students’ attendances in entire semester have also increased up to 13% of previous year baseline. The questionnaire was also distributed before and after cycles to measure the changes in students’ perception of their motivation and independent learning level. The result indicated the increase in average score of every aspect in all variables. However, the result of independent sample t-test showed that sig (2-tailed) score of students’ motivation and independence learning level have significant differences. Thus, it is concluded that Cooperative Learning model on Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) type has a positive and significant impact on developing student’s motivation and independent learning level.]]>

<![CDATA[The largest center of metal casting industry in Indonesia is located in sub-district of Ceper, Klaten, Central Java. The companies of this region open orders for manufacturing engine spare parts and any other engineering needs. The research aims to provide a media accelerating the process of estimation and decision making on product ordering acceptance in the form of Decision Suppprt System (DSS). The method used in this research was System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) encompassing system analysis, system design, and system implementation. The contrive of application used basic programming language with visual Studio Community 2017 software and Microsoft Access basic database software. The testing result of Decission Support System on consumer ordering acceptance using alpha test method and black box test showed that the application program is proper to use and in accordance to the needs of corporate managers to take decision on ordering acceptance.]]>
