Abstract

Teenage pregnancy and the incidence of stunting in children aged 6-23 months in West LombokPurposeThis study aimed to analyze the risk of teenage pregnancy against stunting in children aged 6-23 months.MethodsThis study was an observational study with a matched case-control design. Control and case samples were each 55 samples, with a total sample of 110. The study subjects in the case group were children aged 6-23 months who suffered stunting. Children who did not suffer stunting were the control group. Samples were selected using two stage cluster random sampling. Analysis data used McNemar and conditional logistic regression tests with level of significance p <0.05 and confidence level (CI) 95%.ResultsThe finding of this study showed there was a significant association between teenage pregnancy and the incidence of stunting among children aged 6-23 months by controlling for the variables of maternal education, birth weight, and maternal stature (OR = 2.95; 95% CI: 1.05-8.26).ConclusionTeenage pregnancy, maternal short stature, low birth weight, and low maternal education were factors most likely contributed to increases in the incidence of stunting.

Abstract

Effects of peer education and interactive group discussion on cognitive ability in dealing with unwanted pregnancy PurposeThis study aimed to determine the effectiveness of peer education methods and interactive discussions through audiovisual media on cognitive ability change in solving the problem of unwanted pregnancy.MethodsThis quasi-experimental study used a randomized control trial design involving 99 students. The instrument used was a questionnaire, with the module method of peer education and interactive discussions through audiovisual media, agency and facilitator.ResultsAdolescent reproductive health education after considering living with family consistently had a significant effect on increasing the average value of cognitive ability to solve the problem of unwanted pregnancy. Living with family can predict the cognitive ability of teenagers in solving the problem of unwanted pregnancy by 15%.ConclusionInteractive discussions through audiovisual media and peer education modules enhance adolescents’ cognitive ability to solve unwanted pregnancy problems, and are significantly influenced by family factors.

Abstract

Intensity of gadget use among overweighed preschool children in YogyakartaPurposeThe purpose of this paper was to determine the relationship of the gadgets uses intensity among obesity preschool children in Yogyakarta.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted involving all preschool children in playgroup and kindergarten in Yogyakarta who did not attend the full day school program.ResultsPreschool children with high-intensity use of gadgets are 1.3 times more likely to be obese (p= 0.028, RP = 1.25). Preschool children with high-intensity use of gadgets, high education father, high sedentary behavior, adequate social economy, and poor diet are 2.1 times more likely to be obese.ConclusionThe incidence of obesity in preschool children is more common among children with high-intensity use of gadgets.
