Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini yaitu seorang penduduk berinisial LAH yang tinggal di Tanah Karo. Penelitian ini berfokus pada eksistensi bahasa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bahasa apa yang digunakan oleh orang tua dan lingkungan anak tersebut, kemudian peneliti juga meneliti bagaimana cara LAH mempertahankan bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa pertamanya. Dalam proses pengumpulan data, peneliti melakukan observasi ke lapangan dan mewawancara LAH serta keluarga dan lingkungan tempat tinggal subjek penelitian. Peneliti merekam percakapan sebagai bukti bahwa LAH bahkan tidak memiliki logat Karo dan juga menunjukkan apakah ada perbedaan logat antara subjek, orang tua subjek, dan juga penduduk lingkungan sekitarnya. Selain itu peneliti juga memberikan angket pada LAH dan keluarganya untuk mengetahui faktor apa saja yang menyebabkan pemertahanan Bahasa Indonesia oleh subjek penelitian. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan interaktif model. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, peneliti menemukan faktor-faktor pemertahanan Bahasa Indonesia oleh subjek penelitian yaitu faktor agama, pendidikan, identitas, sikap bahasa, campur kode, dan jumlah penutur. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan manfaat secara teoritis dan praktis. Selain itu, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi tambahan referensi bagi peneliti selanjutnya yang tertarik dengan bidang sosiolinguistik khususnya di bidang pemertahanan bahasa. AbstractThis research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subject of this research is a resident with the initials LAH who lives in Tanah Karo. This study focuses on the existence of language. The purpose of this study was to determine what language the parents and child's environment were using. Then the researcher also examined how LAH maintained Indonesian as her first language. In the process of data collection, researchers conducted field observations and interviewed LAH and the family and environment where the research subjects lived. The researcher recorded the conversation as evidence that LAH did not even have a Karo accent and also showed whether there was a difference in accent between the subject, the subject's parents, and also the residents of the surrounding environment. In addition, the researcher also gave a questionnaire to LAH and her family to find out what factors led to the retention of Indonesian by the research subjects. The data in this study were analyzed using an interactive model. Based on the results of data analysis, the researcher found the factors of maintaining Indonesian by the research subjects, namely factors of religion, education, identity, language attitudes, code mixing, and the number of speakers. This research is expected to provide theoretical and practical benefits. In addition, this research is expected to be an additional reference for future researchers who are interested in the sociolinguistics field, especially in the field of language maintenance.

Abstract

Seiring dengan perkembangan pendidikan yang di hadapi saat ini, maka terbentuk kurikulum 2013. Sehingga dibutuhkan cara tertentu untuk terwujudkan tujuan kurikulum, sesuai dengan karakteristik mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris melalui pengembangan modul pembelajaran di Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP). Pembuatan modul pembelajaran bahasa Inggris ini difokuskan pada keterampilan siswa SMP Swasta Santo Xaverius 2 Kabanjahe untuk melengkapi buku paket dari Kemendiknas agar pemerolehan ketrampilan berbahasa inggris yang sesuai dengan kompetensi life skill siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan gambaran pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dan mendiskripsikan penilaian siswa, guru terhadap pelajaran bahasa inggris. Untuk mengembangkan modul pembelajaran bahasa inggris. Untuk mendeskripsikan kelayakan modul pembelajaran bahasa inggris untuk siswa. Penelitian pengembangan ini menggunakan model Borg & Gall yang disederhanakan menjadi 3 tahapan, yaitu penelitian dan pengumpulan informasi, perencanaan pembuatan produk, dan Pembuatan produk. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui penyebaran angket, wawancara, telaah buku teks pelajaran, validasi produk, dan uji coba terhadap siswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP Swasta Santo Xaverius 2 Kabanjahe kelas VII sejumlah 36 siswa, dimana 10 siswa untuk uji coba kontrol dan keseluruhan sebanyak 36 siswa untuk uji lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pemahaman siswa dengan menggunakan modul pembelajaran metode communicative language teaching pada siswa. Untuk kualitas modul pembelajaran bahasa inggris disimpulkan cukup valid dan layak dipergunakan ditinjau dari aspek kelayakan bahan ajar yang terdiri dari validitas, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan ditinjau dari hasil yang diperoleh dari validasi ahli materi, praktisi pembelajaran dan juga hasil uji coba yang dilakukan pada kelompok kecil dan besar.

Abstract

This study was aimed at improving the students’ achievement in writing procedure text by applying mind mapping technique by conducting classroom action research. The subjects of this research were the students of grade X SMA Kebangsaan Medan. The number of the students was 15 students. The data were analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative procedures. The quantitative data were taken from students’ scores in writing procedure text. Then the qualitative data were taken from the questionnaire and observation sheets. There were two cycles in this research. The tests were done in three times. Before run the first cycle, the preliminary test was done. Based on the data analysis, the mean of the students score in preliminary test was 47.8, in cycle I was 64.6, and in cycle II was 72.8. The conclusion is not only mind mapping technique significantly improves the students’ achievement in writing procedure text, but also the students understanding about procedure text.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to discover the effect of applying Four Square Graphic Organizeron students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. It was conducted by usingexperimental research design. The population of this research was the seventh(VII) grade students of SMP Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan with four parallelclasses. The samples of the research were two classes divided into two groups,experimental and control group which were chosen by using random samplingtechnique. Fifty students were taken as the samples. The experimental group wastaught by using Four Square Graphic Organizer, while the control group wastaught by using freewriting technique. The instrument for collecting the data was awriting test. Pearson Product Moment formula was applied to obtain the reliabilityof the test. Based on the calculation, it shows that the reliability of the test was0,84 categorized as high reliability. Then, after analyzing the data, it was foundthat the value of tobserved was 3,66 with the degree of freedom (df)=48 at the levelof significance p(0,05) = 2,01. It means that tobserved is higher than ttable (3,66 >2,01). The result of this study shows that Four Square Graphic Organizer has asignificant effect on students’ achievement in writing descriptive text.Keywords: writing, descriptive text, Four Square Graphic Organizer,experimental research

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualiatif yang bertujuan untuk melihat penggunaan alih kode dan campur kode pada penutur Bahasa Toba, Karo, dan Mandailing oleh perantau di Kota Medan. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah perantau yang berasal dari kabupaten Toba, perantau yang berasal dari kabupaten Karo, dan yang berasal dari kabupaten Mandailing Natal yang sekarang berdomisili di kota Medan. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah tuturan Bahasa yang dituturkan oleh perantau dari kabupaten Toba, kabupaten Karo, dan kabupaten Mandailing Natal tersebut. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti akan melakukan observasi dan juga wawancara langsung kepada subyek penelitian serta teknik rekam untuk mendapatkan ujaran yang berisi alih kode dan campur kode. Data yang dikumpulkan akan dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis data yang dikenal dengan Interaktif Model oleh Miles, Huberman, dan Saldana yang terdiri dari beberapa tahapan analisis yaitu; a. pengumpulan data, b. penyingkatan data, pemaparan data, dan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa alih kode terjadi karena beberapa faktor yaitu, lawan bicara, topik pembicaraan, dan dimana terjadinya percakapan tersebut. Sedangkan pada campur kode, dari dua jenis campur kode hanya satu jenis yang ditemukan penggunaannya pada penelitian ini yaitu campur kode ke dalam.

Abstract

In this era, many children have begun to leave the habit of reading because they are more interested in playing gadgets than reading books. The tendency to play gadgets has a negative impact on children's development in communicating. As we know, communication must be done in two directions while when children play gadgets there are no communication activities that take place. In the absence of two-way communication when children play gadgets can have an impact on decreasing children's ability to absorb information and communication skills. However, this is exacerbated by teachers and children's environment that has not been maximized in directing children to like reading. This is due to the lack of awareness of teachers or children's environment on the importance of reading and also the lack of availability of media that interests children to read. Departing from this problem, a team of lecturers and students of English Language Education Study Program at Quality University of Berastagi carried out community service by providing knowledge about reading methods that can attract children's interest in reading books, namely the Read Aloud method. Read aloud is one strategy of reading aloud with the aim of focusing children's attention. Read aloud can also make reading a fun activity so as to create information, build vocabulary, focus attention, stimulate questions so as to create discussion so that children can focus more on following the learning process. From the activities carried out at the Yayasan Nurul Hidayah for grade 3 students, they seemed enthusiastic about listening to the stories read by the speakers and from their friends and seemed to focus on listening, increasing vocabulary, and taking the essence of the stories read. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk melihat penggunaan mind mapping pada kemampuan menulis deskripsi diri dalam bahasa inggris pada siswa kelas VI SDN 020254 Binjai. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VI SDN 020254 Binjai dan pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara acak (random sampling) yang berjumlah 10 orang. Data dikumpulkan melalui beberapa teknik yaitu observasi, wawancara dan pemberian tes deskripsi diri dalam bahasa inggris pada 10 orang siswa kelas VI SDN 020254 Binjai. Data dianalisis menggunakan interaktif model yang terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu pengumpulan data, pemadatan data, pemaparan data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 58% siswa merasa kesulitan dalam mengembangkan ide dan 21% kesulitan dalam memulai menulis dan 21% kekurangan kosa kata dalam bahasa inggris sehingga siswa merasa kesulitan dan malas untuk menulis. Selanjutnya 85% siswa merasa sangat terbantu dengan penggunaan mind mapping 10% merasa terbantu dan 5% yang merasa tidak terbantu dengan penggunaan mind mapping. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa mind mapping membantu siswa dalam menghasilkan karangan deskripsi diri dalam bahasa inggris.
