Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Gorontalo Islamic Hospital is a type D general hospital as part of a social organization located on Jalan Prof. HB. Jassin in Gorontalo City. This hospital serves patients both from Gorontalo City and from outside of it. However, the current hospital facilities are inadequate, particularly for inpatient facilities, both in terms of buildings and indoor facilities. According to one of the hospital staff/employees, several buildings are old, one of which is the inpatient building, so leaks often occur when raining. Additionally, many other problems emerge, such as the absence of parking facilities, narrow and hot emergency rooms, too narrow circulation among buildings/corridors, absence of eye care and hemodialysis facilities, and often clogged drains. In reference to these problems, it is indispensable to redesign the Gorontalo Islamic Hospital using a quantitative method based on measurement results in the form of standard results for room size and hospital capacity. Also, it employs qualitative methods in the form of words that contain meaning, instead of numbers, esppecially in the form of any theory or information, standard hospital room facilities, hospital room activities, and room function requirements. The Gorontalo Islamic Hospital was redesigned by directed it to the concept of Islamic Architecture, which employed three principles, including Habluminallah (the human relationship with Allah SWT), Habluminannas (the human relationship with fellow human beings) and Habluminal'alam (the human relationship with nature). The application of Islamic Architecture was also Motivated by the fact that it was in accordance with the Vision of the Gorontalo Islamic Hospital, namely "To become the first and leading Hospital of Gorontalo with quality services in accordance with Islamic values". Keywords: Islamic Hospital, Islamic Architecture, Gorontalo ABSTRAK.

Abstract

Gorontalo Province is an area with a high level of disaster vulnerability, both from hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides, as well as geological disasters such as earthquakes. This condition requires an integrated, modern, and sustainable disaster training facility. Unfortunately, until now Gorontalo does not have a representative disaster management education and training center to support community preparedness. This research aims to design a Disaster Management Education and Training Center that not only functions as an education and simulation place, but also integrates green architecture principles to create an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient learning environment. The method used is qualitative descriptive with primary data collection through observation, interviews with stakeholders, and field documentation. Secondary data were obtained from literature studies, disaster architectural precedents, and spatial planning regulatory studies. The design site was chosen in Limboto District with considerations of accessibility, development potential, and geographical conditions. Analysis is carried out on spatial, functional, and climatological aspects to produce an optimal zoning concept and the orientation of building masses according to the tropical climate. The design results show that an area of 19,371 m² can accommodate all space needs with the utilization of KDB of 25.4%. The application of green architecture is realized through the use of environmentally friendly local materials, natural lighting, cross ventilation, solar panels, and rainwater management systems. The simulation facilities for floods, landslides, earthquakes, and fires are designed based on experiential learning so that participants can experience disaster scenarios firsthand. This design is expected to be a model of sustainable tropical disaster architecture, replicate in other disaster-prone areas, and encourage the creation of a disaster-aware culture. This research also opens up further research opportunities related to energy performance evaluation and the application of digital technology in disaster education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze thermal and visual comfort in fishermen's houses on the coast of Leato Selatan Village, Gorontalo City. The research method uses a quantitative approach with direct measurements using digital instruments including infrared thermometers, digital anemometers, digital hygrometers, altimeter barometer thermometer compasses, digital thermocouples, and lux meters. Data was collected from two fishermen's houses as case studies with three measurements taken. The results showed that wood provided better thermal insulation than zinc, while cross ventilation with sea breezes effectively created natural cooling. Houses with optimal orientation and openings were able to meet the natural lighting standard of 200-350 lux, but some interior areas still lacked lighting. The data accuracy rate reached 80% with student comprehension at 85%. This research provides a basis for the development of coastal architectural designs that are responsive to the tropical climate by integrating the local wisdom of the fishing community.

Abstract

The construction of a gazebo on the grounds of the Rectorate Building at Campus 1 of Gorontalo State University is an integral component of the Building Design Studio I course, which bridges theoretical knowledge and practical application for vocational students. This study aims to explore the process of student involvement in the design, implementation, and completion of the gazebo project, as well as to assess its alignment with the theory of simple building design and construction. The methods used for this project included on-site design evaluations, selection of local materials, distribution of group tasks, site analysis, creation of technical drawings, phased construction involving the lower, middle, and upper structures, and finishing. The results indicate that students effectively translated their technical drawings into a functional and aesthetically appealing structure. The gazebo was built using locally sourced materials, such as wood and bamboo, ensuring the structure met necessary strength standards while blending harmoniously with the campus environment. The activity highlighted the relevance of theoretical knowledge, with discussions emphasizing key concepts such as sustainability, accuracy in measurement, and effective team coordination. Furthermore, students' active participation in the project significantly enhanced their technical and managerial competencies, fostering a sense of responsibility toward the maintenance and development of campus facilities. The hands-on nature of the project also allowed students to gain real-world experience in construction practices, which directly contributes to their vocational training. This project serves as an effective example of project-based learning in vocational education, combining practical skills development with theoretical understanding. By engaging in this real-world application, students were able to strengthen their problem-solving abilities and gain insights into the complexities of construction projects, ultimately preparing them for professional careers in the field of architecture and building design
