Abstract

Learning English idioms is difficult not only for native speakers but also for ESL/EFL learners because they donot mean what they literary mean and the meaning of idioms is difficult to understand except they make use oftheir cultural understanding. Learning English idioms is a challenging task for Indonesian students who learnEnglish as a Foreign Language (EFL).The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of songs andpicturesto teach English Idiomsof University students at University of Muhammadiyah Semarang. To conductthe study, 15 students from the second semester class of English Education Department were choose. Therefore,this research presents the effective learning strategies for EFL learners in Indonesia to learn English idiomseffectively. Besides introducing English idioms to the University students using songs and pictures it can be theway to increasing students’ motivat ion and involvement in learning English idioms. Abstract

The application of e-learning nowadays is being the trend in education field. Unfortunately not many lecturers in English Education Department of Unimus is actively engaged in the application of e-learning. However, if it is used optimally, it will bring much benefit to both students and lecturer, because this can be collaborated with the collaborative learning method that enables the application of student-centered learning in the classroom. This study develops web-based collaborative e-learning in Extensive Reading subject. This Research and Design study aims to design and develop web-based collaborative learning. Besides, it also will describe the implementation of the product in the class of Extensive Reading by observing the result of the student’s assessment. The result of the study showed that students’ achievement in Extensive Reading is increased by 18.55%. According to the questionnaire and interview, it can be concluded that both students and lecturer find it easy and helpful by the existence of this collaborative e-learning.Keywords: collaborative learning, e-learning, mata kuliah extensive reading

Abstract

Hasil observasi awal di kelas XI-IBB MAN 1 Kota Semarang menunjukan rendahnya prestasi hasil belajar mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang diperoleh kelas XI-IBB. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh motivasi belajar dan kedisiplinan belajar siswa selama mengikuti pembelajaran daring terhadap prestasi belajar yang telah dicapai selama peneliti melakukan magang kependidikan III. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswi kelas XI-IBB MAN 1 Kota Semarang yang berjumlah 33 siswa. Variabel yang diteliti adalah motivasi belajar dan kedisiplinan belajar sebagai variable bebas, dan prestasi belajar sebagai variable terikatnya. Metode pengambilan data dari penelitian ini menggunakan angket, hasil observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi hasil belajar siswa.Sedangkan metode analisis data menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa terdapat keterkaitan dan pengaruh antara motivasi belajar dan kedisiplinan belajar siswa terhadap prestasi hasil belajar siswa.  Kata Kunci : Motivasi belajar, kedisiplinan belajar, dan prestasi belajar siswa

Abstract

This research scrutinizes the implementation of the Genre-Based Approach to enhance students’ writing recount performance and their perceptions of the learning experience. Employing a mixed-method research design, the study involved seventy-two of tenth-grade students in one of state school in Central Java. Quantitative data were collected through pretest and posttest to measure writing improvement, while qualitative data were obtained from a student’s questionnaire focusing on engagement, motivation, and comprehension. The data were analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk for normality, Levene’s test for homogeneity, and an independent samples t-test to compare the performance between the two groups. Descriptive analysis was applied to the questionnaire data. The results revealed the students in the experimental group showed notable improvement in writing performance after Genre-Based Approach intervention. In addition, students expressed positive perceptions of Genre-Based Approach, reporting increased comprehension, better retention, enhanced engagement, and strengthened critical thinking. These findings suggest that Genre-Based Approach supports writing development and fosters a more motivating and structured learning environment. This study contributes to the existing literature by highlighting Genre-Based Approach's academic and perceptual impacts, an area that remains underexplored in previous research.
