Abstract

Resin akrilik polimerisasi panas merupakan bahan basis gigitiruan yang mudah patah karena memiliki kekuatan impak dan transversal yang rendah sehingga perlu ditambahkan serat penguat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kekuatan impak dan transversal bahan basis gigitiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas dengan penambahan serat kaca dan serat polietilen, pengaruh penambahan serat kaca dan serat polietilen terhadap kekuatan impak dan transversal basis gigitiruan dan korelasi antara kekuatan impak dan transversal bahan basisgigitiruan resin akrilik polimerisasi panas. Penelitian ini menggunakan serat kaca dan serat polietilen bentuk potongan kecil yang ditambahkan ke dalam resin akrilik polimerisasi panas. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penambahan serat kaca 1% dan serat polietilen 1% dapat meningkatkan kekuatan impak dan transversal dan terdapat korelasi positif antara kekuatan impak dan transversal sehingga basis gigitiruan tidak mudah patah.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate The Difference in Pressure Transmission between Polymethyl-Methacrylate (PMMA) and Thermoplastic Nylon Denture Based. Material and methods: Mandibular first molar acrylic denture teeth (Bioeco) embedded on 15x15x3 mm3 thermoplastic nylon (Biotone) and poly methyl methacrylate denture bases were evaluated (n=9). A 100N force applied on the specimen using universal testing machine and the pressure transmitted under the specimen observed using pressure transducer. Results: The results showed that polymethyl methacrylate has the highest pressure transmission compared to thermoplastic nylon. This study can help dentists to determine the design of dentures, especially in the selection of denture base materials.

Abstract

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Mengganti gigi yang hilang bertujuan untuk mempertahankan keutuhan sistem stomatognasi sehingga mencegah terjadinya perubahan fungsi akibat adanya pergerakan gigi. Laporan kasus ini mendiskusikan perawatan kehilangan gigi premolar atas kanan dengan ruang pontik yang kurang. Laporan kasus: Pasien pria berusia 20 tahun datang ke Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Universitas Sumatera Utara (RSGM USU) dengan keluhan sulit mengunyah makanan setelah pencabutan gigi sekitar 6 bulan yang lalu. Pemeriksaan klinis menunjukkan adanya kehilangan gigi 15 dengan daerah edentulus yang sempit. Pemeriksaan radiografi menunjukkan hasil jaringan ligamen periodontal yang normal dan dukungan tulang yang adekuat pada gigi 14 dan 16. Diagnosis yang ditegakkan adalah kehilangan gigi 15 dengan daerah edentulus yang sempit. Rencana perawatan yang dilakukan adalah pembuatan gigi tiruan jembatan dengan bahan porcelain fused to metal. Untuk mendapatkan ruang pontik yang proporsional maka ukuran gigi 14 dan 15 disamakan dengan membagi dua jarak distal 13 ke mesial 16. Berdasarkan pemeriksaan klinis, pemeriksaan penunjang, rencana perawatan, dan diagnosis maka prognosis pasien tersebut adalah baik. Ketebalan preparasi yang terencana, diagnostic wax up, dan komunikasi yang baik dengan laboratorium dental dapat menangani kekurangan ruang untuk pontik gigi premolar pada daerah edentulous yang sempit.menunjukkan keberhasilan. Simpulan: Perawatan menunjukkan keberhasilan dalam mendapatkan ruang untuk pontik dengan memodifikasi bentuk dan ukuran gigi pendukung.Kata kunci: Estetik, gigi tiruan jembatan, pontik. ABSTRACTIntroduction: Replacing missing teeth aims to maintain the integrity of the stomatognathic system to prevent function alteration due to tooth movement. This case report was discussed the treatment of right maxillary premolar teeth with the narrow edentulous area. Case report:A 20-year-old male patient came to the University of North Sumatra Dental Hospital (RSGM USU) with complaints of mastication difficulty after tooth extraction about 6 months before. Clinical examination showed the loss of tooth 15 with a narrow edentulous area. Radiographic examination showed normal periodontal ligament tissue and adequate bone support of teeth 14 and 16. The diagnosis was the loss of tooth 15 with a narrow edentulous area. The treatment plan was the manufacture of a dental bridge (pontics) with porcelain fused to metal material. The size of teeth 14 and 15 was equated by dividing the distal distance 13 to mesial 16, to get a proportional pontic chamber. Based on clinical examination, supporting examination, treatment plan, and diagnosis, the patient's prognosis was good. The thickness of the planned preparation, diagnostic wax-up, and good communication with the dental laboratory were able to handle the lack of space for premolar pontics in narrow edentulous areas. Conclusion: Treatment shows success in gaining space for pontics by modifying the shape and size of the supporting teeth. Keywords: Aesthetic, dental bridge, pontics.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Kekuatan ikat geser adalah kekuatan maksimum suatu material untuk menahan atau menerima gaya geser hingga lepas atau terjadinya fraktur. Ini merupakan salah satu hal yang penting dalam penggunaan gigi tiruan, terutama pada gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan dengan bahan basis nilon termoplastik. Kekurangan bahan basis ini adalah sering terlepasnya gigi artifisial dari basis gigi tiruannya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan kekuatan ikat geser antara gigi artifisial akrilik maupun porselen dengan bahan basis gigi tiruan nilon termoplastik Valplast™, TCS™ dan Biotone™.  Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental laboratoris. Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini terdiri dari 18 gigi artifisial insisivus sentralis rahang atas akrilik dan 18 gigi artifisial insisivus sentralis rahang atas porselen yang dibagi ke dalam 6 kelompok. Tiap sampel ditanamkan pada bahan basis gigi tiruan berbentuk silindris dengan diameter 18 mm dan tinggi 20 mm. Sampel di uji dengan menggunakan alat Universal Testing Machine. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji ANOVA satu arah. Hasil: Terdapat perbedaan kekuatan ikat geser yang signifikan (p<0,05). Pada kedua gigi artifisial kelompok dengan basis Valplast™ memiliki nilai kekuatan ikat geser tertinggi, lalu diikuti dengan kelompok TCS™ dan Biotone™. Simpulan: Nilai kekuatan ikat geser berbeda pada gigi artifisial akrilik maupun porselen pada tiga macam basis gigi tiruan nilon termoplastik.Kata kunci: Kekuatan ikat geser, nilon termoplastik, gigi artifisial akrilik, gigi artifisial porselen. ABSTRACTIntroduction: Shear bond strength is the maximum strength of a material to hold or accept shear forces until detached or fractured. This strength is one of the essential things in the denture usage, especially in removable partial denture with nylon thermoplastic base material. The disadvantage of this material base is the frequent detachment of artificial teeth from the denture base. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference of the shear bond strength between acrylic and porcelain teeth with thermoplastic nylon denture base material of Valplast™, TCS™, and Biotone™. Methods: The type of research was an experimental laboratory. The sample used in this study consisted of 18 acrylic maxillary central incisor artificial teeth and 18 porcelain maxillary central incisor artificial teeth divided into 6 groups. Each sample was implanted in cylindrical denture base material with a diameter of 18 mm and a height of 20 mm. The sample was tested using a Universal Testing Machine. Data were analysed using a one-way ANOVA test. Result: There were significant differences in the shear bond strength (p < 0.05) in both artificial teeth, with the group of Valplast™ base had the highest shear bond strength value, followed by the TCS™ and Biotone™ groups. Conclusion: The shear bond strength values of acrylic and porcelain teeth in three types of thermoplastic nylon denture bases were significantly different.Keywords: Shear bond strength, thermoplastic nylon, acrylic teeth, porcelain teeth.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPendahuluan: Banyak bahan kedokteran gigi yang beredar diimpor dari luar negeri dan dijual bebas di pasaran. Hal ini sempat menimbulkan kegelisahan bagi para muslim yang mencari perawatan gigi yang halal. Status halal bahan yang digunakan untuk perawatan gigi masih belum jelas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi DNA porcine pada bahan mahkota sementara, bahan basis gigi tiruan, dan bahan cetak hydrocolloid irreversible menggunakan Real-Time PCR. Metode: Jenis penelitian menggunakan penelitian deskriptif,  metode quota sampling digunakan untuk pengambilan sampel. Tiga bahan mahkota sementara, tiga bahan basis gigi tiruan dan tiga bahan cetak hydrocolloid irreversible dengan merk yang berbeda digunakan sebagai sampel. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua tahap. Pertama, ekstraksi DNA pada sampel dan kedua dan dilakukan analisis Real-Time PCR berdasarkan kurva amplifikasi dan skor Ct pada channel yellow dan channel green. Hasil: Analisis sampel berdasarkan channel green menunjukkan bahwa semua bahan tidak mengandung DNA porcine, tetapi empat dari sembilan sampel mengandung DNA vertebrata. Simpulan: Semua jenis bahan yang diuji tidak satupun yang mengandung DNA porcine.Kata kunci: identifikasi DNA porcine; mahkota sementara; basis gigi tiruan; bahan cetak; Real-Time PCR. ABSTRACTIntroduction: Most of dental materials circulates are imported from abroad and sold freely on the market. It cause an anxiety for Muslim community who looking for halal dental treatment. Halal status for dental treatments still unclear. This study aimed to identify porcine DNA in temporary crown, denture base, and hydrocolloid irreversible impression materials using Real-Time PCR. Methods: This research type is descriptive, quota sampling method was used for sampling. Three temporary crown materials, three denture base materials and three irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials were used as the specimens. This study was conducted in two stages. Extraction of DNA sample and Real-Time PCR analysis based on amplification curve and Ct score in yellow and green channel. Results: An analysis of samples based on green channel showed that all materials were not containing porcine DNA, but four out of nine samples were containing vertebrae DNA. Conclusion: All tested specimens were not containing porcine DNA.Keywords: identification of porcine DNA; temporary crown; denture base; impression material; Real-Time PCR.

Abstract

The temporomandibular joint is part of the stomatognathic system, where interference with one component of the stomatognathic system will interfere with other components causing an imbalance of function. One such disorder is temporomandibular. Temporomandibular disorders have signs, symptoms, and severity that can be eliminated through jaw exercises. This study had the goal of evaluating and comparing the severity of TMD symptoms between students before and after engaging in jaw exercises In this purposive sampling study, researchers used questionnaires based on the Helchymo Anamnestic Index. 30 respondents who complained of temporomandibular disorder were asked to fill out a questionnaire through a Google form. Patients with TMD were inferred based on the total score of all questions with paired T-test statistical results. The results showed that there was a difference in severity before and after jaw exercise in 24 (80%) patients. There was a difference in the severity of temporomandibular joint disorders before and after jaw exercise by patients with p-value = 0.0001 (p <0.005).

Abstract

Thermoplastic nylon has been introduced in dentistry as a material for denture bases since 1950’s. Thermoplastic nylon has become a popular alternative for denture fabrication, which provides better aesthetics and several advantages. Unfortunately, thermoplastic nylon has insufficient shear bond strength with acrylic resin, causing the acrylic denture teeth to often debond from the thermoplastic nylon denture base. Sandblasting is suggested can be used to increase shear bond strength between artificial teeth and denture bases. This study aims-to evaluate the effect of sandblasting surface treatment on shear bond strength between acrylic denture teeth and thermoplastic nylon denture base. Four groups with different aluminum oxide particle sizes (No treatment, 50 μm, 110 μm, 250 μm) were used in this study (n=8). A universal testing machine was used to test the specimens. The data were analyzed using the One-way ANOVA test. One-way ANOVA showed a statistically significant difference between groups (P < 0.001). There is an effect of sandblasting surface treatment on shear bond strength between acrylic denture teeth and thermoplastic nylon denture base. Sandblasting with 250 μm aluminum oxide showed the best result than another group. KEY WORDS: shear bond strength, sandblasting, acrylic denture teeth, thermoplastic nylon, denture base.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenggunaan bahan kedokteran gigi merupakan salah satu hal penting dalam perawatan gigi. Banyak bahan kedokteran gigi yang beredar diimpor dari luar negeri dan beberapa bahan dijual bebas di pasaran. Namun, status halal yang digunakan untuk perawatan gigi masih belum jelas dan menimbulkan kecemasan bagi umat muslim yang ingin mencari perawatan gigi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menguji kemungkinan keberadaan kandungan babi dalam bahan kedokteran gigi yang digunakan di bidang prostodontik terutama pada perekat gigi tiruan dan soft denture lining (n=4). Penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua tahap. Tahap awal dilakukan ektraksi DNA dan tahap kedua dilakukan analisis PCR Real-Time. Preparasi sampel dilakukan dengan melisiskan 20 mg sampel dengan lysis buffer, divorteks, inkubasi, dan disentrifugasi. Kemudian sampel disimpan dibawah suhu 4C, sampel siap digunakan. Analisis dilakukan berdasarkan kurva amplifikasi dan nilai Ct pada yellow channel dan green channel menggunakan EASYFAST PIG/Suidae detection Quantification kit (Progenus s.a, Gembloux, Belgium). Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tiga dari empat sampel (IPG-01, PG-02, dan IPG-03) mengandung DNA vertebrata. Kemudian sampel dianalisis berdasarkan green channel (FAM). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada sampel yang teridenfikasi kandungan babi.Kata kunci: Identifikasi porcine, DNA, polymerase chain reaction, dental material, prostodontik
