Abstract

Pendahuluan: Mahkota sementara harus memiliki ketepatan margin yang baik untuk menjaga kesehatan gingiva dan melindungi gigi dari trauma suhu, kimia, fisik, dan bakteri. Pembuatan mahkota sementara yang paling umum digunakan adalah teknik langsung dan tidak langsung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik langsung dan tidak langsung pembuatan mahkota sementara resin akrilik autopolimerisasi terhadap ketepatan margin. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental laboratoris. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah resin akrilik autopolimerisasi. Jumlah seluruh sampel adalah 12 dengan 6 sampel untuk masing-masing kelompok. Seluruh sampel diuji ketepatan marginnya menggunakan stereomikroskop. Hasil: Analisis statistik menggunakan uji t tidak berpasangan menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara teknik langsung dan tidak langsung pembuatan mahkota sementara terhadap ketepatan margin p=0,0001 (p<0,05). Simpulan: Mahkota sementara yang dibuat menggunakan teknik tidak langsung menghasilkan ketepatan margin yang lebih baik daripada teknik langsung.Kata kunci: Ketepatan margin, mahkota sementara, resin akrilik autopolimerisasi, teknik langsung, teknik tidak langsung. ABSTRACTIntroduction: Temporary crowns must have good margin accuracy to maintain gingival health and protect teeth from temperature, chemical, physical, and bacterial trauma. The most commonly used temporary crown is the direct and indirect technique. This study was aimed to determine the effect of direct and indirect techniques on the margin accuracy in the fabrication of the auto polymerised acrylic resin temporary crown. Method: This research was an experimental laboratory. The sample in this study was auto polymerised acrylic resin. The total number of samples was 12 with 6 samples for each group. All samples were tested for margin accuracy using stereomicroscopes. Results: Statistical analysis using unpaired t-test showed that there were significant differences between the direct and indirect techniques of temporary crowns fabrication on the margin accuracy p = 0.0001 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Temporary crowns fabricated with indirect technique produce better margin accuracy than direct technique.Keywords: Margin accuracy, temporary crown, auto polymerised acrylic resin, direct technique, indirect technique.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPendahuluan: Banyak bahan kedokteran gigi yang beredar diimpor dari luar negeri dan dijual bebas di pasaran. Hal ini sempat menimbulkan kegelisahan bagi para muslim yang mencari perawatan gigi yang halal. Status halal bahan yang digunakan untuk perawatan gigi masih belum jelas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi DNA porcine pada bahan mahkota sementara, bahan basis gigi tiruan, dan bahan cetak hydrocolloid irreversible menggunakan Real-Time PCR. Metode: Jenis penelitian menggunakan penelitian deskriptif,  metode quota sampling digunakan untuk pengambilan sampel. Tiga bahan mahkota sementara, tiga bahan basis gigi tiruan dan tiga bahan cetak hydrocolloid irreversible dengan merk yang berbeda digunakan sebagai sampel. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua tahap. Pertama, ekstraksi DNA pada sampel dan kedua dan dilakukan analisis Real-Time PCR berdasarkan kurva amplifikasi dan skor Ct pada channel yellow dan channel green. Hasil: Analisis sampel berdasarkan channel green menunjukkan bahwa semua bahan tidak mengandung DNA porcine, tetapi empat dari sembilan sampel mengandung DNA vertebrata. Simpulan: Semua jenis bahan yang diuji tidak satupun yang mengandung DNA porcine.Kata kunci: identifikasi DNA porcine; mahkota sementara; basis gigi tiruan; bahan cetak; Real-Time PCR. ABSTRACTIntroduction: Most of dental materials circulates are imported from abroad and sold freely on the market. It cause an anxiety for Muslim community who looking for halal dental treatment. Halal status for dental treatments still unclear. This study aimed to identify porcine DNA in temporary crown, denture base, and hydrocolloid irreversible impression materials using Real-Time PCR. Methods: This research type is descriptive, quota sampling method was used for sampling. Three temporary crown materials, three denture base materials and three irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials were used as the specimens. This study was conducted in two stages. Extraction of DNA sample and Real-Time PCR analysis based on amplification curve and Ct score in yellow and green channel. Results: An analysis of samples based on green channel showed that all materials were not containing porcine DNA, but four out of nine samples were containing vertebrae DNA. Conclusion: All tested specimens were not containing porcine DNA.Keywords: identification of porcine DNA; temporary crown; denture base; impression material; Real-Time PCR.

Abstract

Objective: To determine the surface roughness and surface hardness difference in composite resin provisional crown before and after brushing with whitening toothpaste. Material and Methods: This was a pre- and post-test group design experimental study. In this study, the sample was a composite resin provisional crown based on bis-acryl. The number of samples in this study was 32 samples, 16 for the surface roughness test and the other 16 for the surface hardness test. Each sample was brushed using a V8-Brushing Machine Modified, then tested for surface roughness and hardness using a Profilometer and Vickers Hardness Tester. Result: The paired T test was used to analyze the results statistically. There was a significant difference between the groups before and after brushing with whitening toothpaste. (p<0.05). Conclusion: After simulated brushing with whitening toothpaste, there was a change in the the provisional crown material surface roughness and hardness value.

Abstract

Edentulus penuh adalah kehilangan seluruh gigi pada rahang atas dan rahang bawah yang dapat di atasi dengan gigi tiruan. Pembuatan gigi tiruan disarankan agar dapat membantu memroses makanan serta mengembalikan fungsi bicara yang mengharuskan dokter gigi menggunakan kemampuan berbicara sebagai pengetahuan klinis tentang peranan faktor fonetik dalam pembuatan gigi tiruan. Dimensi vertikal merupakan salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi suara pada pasien pemakai gigi tiruan lengkap. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat adanya hubungan dimensi vertikal pada pasien pemakai gigi tiruan lengkap terhadap kualitas huruf bilabial. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah penelitian analitik dengan menggunakan metode cross sectional. Pengambilan sampel penelitian dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling pada pasien edentulous lengkap di klinik Prostodonsia Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Universitas Sumatera Utara tahun 2017-2019 yang telah memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi sebanyak 30 orang. Data dianalisis dengan uji T berpasangan dan uji wilcoxon range test. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa adanya hubungan signifikan antara dimensi vertikal terhadap kualitas huruf [b] dan tidak terdapat hubungan signifikan antara dimensi vertikal terhadap kualitas huruf [m] pada pemakai gigi tiruan lengkap.

Abstract

The aesthetics of fixed denture treatments are important factors that determine the success of the treatment. The optimal esthetic results in the manufacture of crowns and bridges require several considerations such as the size, shape, and color of the denture. The right color is one of the factors that influence the success of fixed bridges (GTJ) from an aesthetic aspect. In this descriptive survey research, the author examined the color of the ceramic metal that would be attached to the patient and compared it to the color guide and then the author distributed a questionnaire to assess the level of knowledge from clinical clerkship students at Prosthodontics Department Universitas Sumatera Utara regarding the procedure in determining the color of dentures. A colorimeter is used as a tool in determining the color accuracy of fixed dentures. The mean difference in color between the fixed denture and the color guide was tabulated and univariate analysis was performed. The results showed no significant color difference between the fixed denture and the color guide. 80,95% of respondents had a good knowledge level in the determining color procedure.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Brushing of provisional crown material using a toothbrush and abrasive toothpaste induces surface roughness. This study, therefore, aims to determine the difference in surface roughness on provisional crown materials after brushing with soft and medium filament toothbrushes using high and low abrasive toothpaste. Methods: This type of laboratory experimental research employed a pre-test and post-test group design of 40 samples divided into four groups of ten samples each. The groups consisted of Group A (bis-acrylic temporary crown material brushed with medium-filament toothbrush and high-abrasive toothpaste), Group B (bis-acrylic temporary crown material brushed with soft-filament toothbrush and high-abrasive toothpaste), Group C (bis-acrylic temporary crown material brushed with medium-filament toothbrush and low-abrasive toothpaste), and Group D (bis-acrylic temporary crown material brushed with soft-filament toothbrush and low-abrasive toothpaste). The sample brushing method was carried out using a Modified V8-Brushing Machine tool for 2000 cycles at a speed of 120 cycles/minute and a 0.2 N pressure. Results: A profilometer was used to measure surface roughness. The mean value of surface roughness was analyzed by a univariate test, yielding groups A (0.41 µm ± 0.18), B (0.36 µm ± 0.13), C (0.40 µm ± 0.15), and D (0.25 µm ± 0.09). The Kruskal-Wallis Statistical analysis test determined significant differences among test groups. This study indicates that the surface roughness of bis-acryl provisional crown material brushed with soft and medium-filament toothbrushes differed from that with a combination of high and low-abrasive toothpaste p = 0.001 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Brushing provisional crown materials with a medium-filament toothbrush resulted in a higher roughness value than with a soft-filament toothbrush, and the group that brushed with high-abrasive toothpaste showed higher roughness values than that with low-abrasive toothpaste.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenggunaan bahan kedokteran gigi merupakan salah satu hal penting dalam perawatan gigi. Banyak bahan kedokteran gigi yang beredar diimpor dari luar negeri dan beberapa bahan dijual bebas di pasaran. Namun, status halal yang digunakan untuk perawatan gigi masih belum jelas dan menimbulkan kecemasan bagi umat muslim yang ingin mencari perawatan gigi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menguji kemungkinan keberadaan kandungan babi dalam bahan kedokteran gigi yang digunakan di bidang prostodontik terutama pada perekat gigi tiruan dan soft denture lining (n=4). Penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua tahap. Tahap awal dilakukan ektraksi DNA dan tahap kedua dilakukan analisis PCR Real-Time. Preparasi sampel dilakukan dengan melisiskan 20 mg sampel dengan lysis buffer, divorteks, inkubasi, dan disentrifugasi. Kemudian sampel disimpan dibawah suhu 4C, sampel siap digunakan. Analisis dilakukan berdasarkan kurva amplifikasi dan nilai Ct pada yellow channel dan green channel menggunakan EASYFAST PIG/Suidae detection Quantification kit (Progenus s.a, Gembloux, Belgium). Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tiga dari empat sampel (IPG-01, PG-02, dan IPG-03) mengandung DNA vertebrata. Kemudian sampel dianalisis berdasarkan green channel (FAM). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada sampel yang teridenfikasi kandungan babi.Kata kunci: Identifikasi porcine, DNA, polymerase chain reaction, dental material, prostodontik

Abstract

Background: The polishing procedure is an important stage in producing a successful restoration. Polishing involves the use of abrasive materials, and blood cockle shells contain these natural components, such as calcium carbonate, which can be used as a polishing paste. One of the factors that influences the polishing quality is the polishing duration. Purpose: This study evaluated the polishability of a nanohybrid composite using blood cockle shell polishing paste by measuring the surface roughness and gloss value, and by observing the surface qualities based on different polishing times. Methods: Ninety samples of maxillary premolars were immersed in artificial saliva in an incubator at 37°C for 24 h. A total of 45 samples were subjected to a profilometer to observe surface roughness, and the rest were subjected to a glossmeter to observe the composite resin gloss. These included blood cockle shell paste, Prisma Gloss polishing paste, and without paste for 30, 60, and 90 seconds. The data were statistically analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and post hoc least significant difference (LSD). Results: It showed that the group of 90 seconds had the highest gloss and the lowest surface roughness in the blood cockle shells. The difference was statistically significant (p>0.05). The results of the surface roughness test of the blood cockle shells with a duration of 30 and 60 seconds were found to be not significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: There were significant differences by adding the polishing duration, which decreased the surface roughness and increased the surface gloss, in which the lowest roughness and highest glossiness was found with a polishing time of 90 seconds. The polishability of composite resin restorations in this study obtained the best gloss and smoothest surface results from the longest polishing time duration of 90 seconds with the blood cockle shell polishing paste.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Bis-acryl composite resins are commonly used for temporary crowns but are difficult to polish due to their soft resin and hard filler particles. Well-polished surface on temporary crowns offers benefits like better gingival-health, improved mastication, and better aesthetics. Multi-step aluminum oxide discs and one-step diamond discs are effective for polishing bis-acryl materials. This study aimed to analyze the surface roughness and gloss of bis-acryl provisional crowns before and after polishing with two different polishing systems. Methods: Total of 72 samples (10x2 mm and 16x2 mm) were divided into two groups (I and II) for roughness and gloss analysis. Each group was further subdivided into four sub-groups (IA,IIA,IB, and IIB). Groups IA and IIA were polished using the aluminum oxide multi-step system, while groups IB and IIB were polished using the diamond one-step system. All samples were pre-standardized with abrasive paper #1000 before polishing. Surface roughness and gloss were measured using profilometer and glossmeter before and after polishing. The data were analyzed using paired t-test (p<0.05). Results: After polishing, the surface roughness for the aluminum oxide group was 0.18±0.02, with gloss value of 46.55±1.31. The diamond disc resulted in surface roughness of 0.15±0.02 and gloss value of 51.08±1.76. Statistically significant differences were found in surface roughness and gloss between groups IA and IB (p=0.0001), delta gloss between groups IIA and IIB (p=0.0001). Conclusions: Both polishing systems produced acceptable surface roughness (0.20 μm) and gloss (40-60 GU). Permukaan mahkota yang dipoles memberikan keuntungan dalam perawatan gigi, seperti kesehatan gusi, pengunyahan, dan estetika. Disk aluminium oksida dan disk diamond dianggap efektif untuk pemolesan bahan bis-acryl. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kekasaran dan kilap permukaan bahan mahkota sementara bis-acryl sebelum dan sesudah pemolesan dengan dua sistem pemolesan yang berbeda. Metode: Sebanyak 72 sampel bis-acryl berbentuk disk (10x2 mm dan 16x2 mm) dibagi menjadi dua kelompok (kelompok I dan II) untuk evaluasi kekasaran dan kilap permukaan. Setiap kelompok dibagi lagi menjadi empat sub-kelompok (IA, IIA, IB, IIB). Kelompok IA dan IIA dipoles dengan disk aluminium oksida sistem multi-langkah, sedangkan kelompok IB dan IIB dipoles dengan disk diamond sistem satu langkah. Sebelum pemolesan, semua sampel distandarisasi menggunakan kertas abrasif #1000 dengan rotary grinder. Profilometer dan glossmeter digunakan untuk mengukur kekasaran dan gloss permukaan. Kemudian data dianalisis menggunakan uji t berpasangan (P<0.05).Hasil: Setelah pemolesan, kekasaran permukaan dengan disk aluminium oksida adalah 0,18±0,02 dengan gloss 46,55±1,31. Dengan disk diamond, kekasaran permukaan menjadi 0,15±0,02 dengan gloss 51,08±1,76. Uji T menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan pada kekasaran dan gloss antara kelompok IA dan IB (p=0,0001), serta perbedaan signifikan pada gloss antara kelompok IIA dan IIB (p=0,0001). Simpulan: Kedua sistem pemolesan menghasilkan kekasaran permukaan dan gloss yang dapat diterima, namun disk diamond menghasilkan permukaan yang lebih halus dan mengkilap dengan efisiensi lebih tinggi. KATA KUNCI: Bis-acryl, kekasaran permukaan, kilap, aluminum oksida, diamond
