Abstract

Every human being has at least one language, both spoken and written. The language contains basic or certain rules that form, combine, and express meaning that changes because words in language are combined differently through combinations in syntactic studies so that language has an important role in human life as a means of communication.This is actually the realization of the written examples.The Purpose of this research was to find out the non-standard and standard English words and to find out the tree structure in the Mac Miller song lyrics.Then, the writer choosessongs to analyze because studying songs does not just analyze the metaphorslanguage, word meaning and language style, but also analyze how non-standard English words can be used as standard English words by converting them with several tools such as phonological processes and basic grammar which in the song the English standard has been found the writer analyzessentence structureused in one of the lyrics to a song from Mac Miller's album entitled "Circles".In analyzing the data, the writer uses several appropriate theories with a subject for analyze sentences into each sentence content. This thesis uses a qualitative descriptive method. Steps in taking and the data collection are listening songs on the album "Circles" by Mac Miller, searching the lyrics of the internet, copying the lyrics of the songs to be analyzed, reading and identifying the non-standard English word and converted into standard English word using instrument for standardizing English words and the last make tree structure from the sentence or phrase. Moreover, the result after analyzing the data, the writer finally found fifteen rules in sentence structure and found thirty non-standard English word sentences in the lyrics of the song. Considering the importance of understanding sentence structure, especially in the study of syntax, the writer makes some suggestions, for students from English Department, other researcher who will conduct studies related to topics and the writer hopes that this thesis can be used as a reference or compare how non-standard English with their daily non-standard language and for those who are interested in studying syntax studies. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the types and the meaning of interjection in the WhatsApp group. The research employs descriptive qualitative approach pragmatic since this research is conversation analysis the data were collected from the dialog or conversation student in WhatsApp group. The result of the research that The types of interjection that found in this group namely, the interjection of wonder, interjection of gratitude, interjection of hope, interjection of  invitation, interjection of surprise, interjection of admiration or satisfaction and interjection of annoyance.  The most frequently found part of interjection of wonder. There are three word of interjection wonder namely, haduh, loh kok bisa and leh. There are several meanings of interjection found by researchers, namely, the meaning of sadness, the meaning of wonder, the meaning of annoyance, the meaning of hope, the meaning of surprise, the meaning of invitation, the meaning of gratitude and the meaning of admiration.  Keywords: pragmatics, types and meanings of interjection, whatsapp group.

Abstract

In today's digital age, music, especially English songs, has become an integral part of students' lives. This study was conducted to address the lack of research that highlights the role of songs not only as a linguistic tool but also as a motivator and mood regulator in English language learning. Most previous studies have emphasized cognitive aspects; this research seeks to fill the gap by focusing on the affective dimension. The purpose of this study is to explore how English songs influence the motivation and mood of students in the English Education Program, class of 2021–2022 at Al-Qolam University, and to examine the conscious and unconscious use of songs as learning strategies. The study employed a qualitative method with thematic analysis by Braun & Clarke. Data collection was conducted through open-ended questionnaires and interviews. The findings indicate that English songs significantly enhance students’ motivation, improve mood, enrich vocabulary and pronunciation, and support autonomous and flexible learning. These findings suggest that songs can serve as an effective, enjoyable, and emotionally engaging learning tool for today's learners.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research investigates the pragmatic analysis of declarative illocutionary acts in Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast, exploring their use to convey meaning, establish authority, and build trust. Focusing on context and audience reaction, it aims to fill research gaps and enhance understanding of language in digital media, contributing valuable insights to pragmatics and communication studies. This descriptive-qualitative study analyzed declarative illocutionary acts in Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast using J.L. Austin's and John Searle’s Speech Act Theory. Data from selected 2023-2024 episodes and audience reactions were examined, focusing on locution, illocution, and perlocution. Purposive sampling, transcription, and categorization were employed to understand the acts'' functions, with key findings synthesized and presented. This qualitative study analyzed 29 declarative illocutionary acts from Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast, highlighting how statements from Deddy Corbuzier, his guests, and audience reactions convey beliefs and influence perceptions. Using purposive sampling and transcription, the research identified and categorized these acts, revealing their functions and contextual meanings, contributing valuable insights to the understanding of language use in digital media. This research analyzed 29 declarative illocutionary acts in Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast, revealing their impact on public opinion and social realities. It fills a gap in pragmatics by highlighting how these acts shape dialogue in digital media. The study's findings contribute to political discourse analysis, media studies, and sociolinguistics, offering a foundation for future research in diverse media contexts.

Abstract

Abstract Racism is not the strange topic anymore for the people worldwide. The idea of racism is the exclusion of a group of individuals according to their race or ethnicity. One of the movies that raised this theme is The Freedom Writers. This movie is an American biographical drama movie written and directed by Richard LaGravenese in 2007. This study will identify racism using Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis theory in the text dimension as reflected in The Freedom Writers movie. This study is a descriptive qualitative approach using Teun A. Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis and only focus on text dimension (Macro Structure, Superstructure, and Microstructure). The main theme in the movie is the struggle against racism through education with the sub-theme of education as a tool of social change, highlighting Erin Gruwell's efforts to overcome racial divisions in her classroom through innovative teaching methods. The movie's structure begins with exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution that illustrate the challenges and successes in changing attitudes and promoting inclusivity in Erin's classroom. In this study, 11 texts in the scenes were found to contain elements of racism such as racial discrimination and systemic injustice, structural racism, negative stereotyping, and ignorance of context. Abstract

This research analyzed racism in Freedom Writers (2007) through Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework, exploring societal influences, racial conflicts, and resolution strategies. The research revealed The Freedom Writers portrayed systemic racism through classroom discrimination, gang conflicts, and inequality. Using Van Dijk’s CDA, highlighted education and empathy as tools for change, with activities like the Line Game fostering unity. Empowerment through storytelling and linking struggles to global issues, such as the Holocaust, emphasized collective efforts for lasting systemic reform and social transformation.
