Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of the learning model of Experiential Learning with case study of students' critical thinking skills in the human reproductive system material.Research is Quasi Experiment (quasi-experimental) with research design Posttest Only with Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The research population was all students of eleventh (XI) grade IPA SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013. Sampling technique in the study is cluster sampling, with samples of the two classes, there are eleventh grade (XI) IPA 1 with 26 students as the number of experimental class and eleventh (XI) IPA 3 with 28 students a class control. Treatment in the experimental class is the application of the learning model of Experiential Learning with case study and in control class applied conventional learning model with varied lectures. The technique of collection data was using test method (essay) and non-test (documentation and observation). Hypothesis testing is done by using a t-test. The results showed that the average value of the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class was higher than the control class, which is 64.42 in experimental class and 51 in the control class. The results show the significant value of t test is 0.000 (sig. <0.05), so it can be said that there are significant differences in thecritical thinking skills betweenexperimental class with control class. The research has conclusion that the model of experiential learning with case studygives significant effect on students' critical thinking skills for eleventh(XI) grade IPA SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta in academic year 2012/2013 on the matter of human reproductive system. Key Words: experiential learning, learning method in case study, critical thinking skills

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to know: 1) the influence of Problem Based Instruction to the mastery of biology concept; 2) the influence of student’s learning motivation to the mastery of biology concept; 3) the interaction between learning model and learning motivation to the mastery of biology concept; and 4) the influence of better learning strategy to the mastery of biology concept. This research was quasi experiment research using Randomized Control Only design. Learning model and learning motivation were independent variables and mastery of biology concept was the dependent variable. The population of this research was all of  X grade of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. The samples of this research were the students of class X-5 as the control class and students of class X-4 as the experimental class.  The sample of this research was established by cluster random sampling. The data about the result of study biology collected by use test and observation. Learning motivation meansured by using questionnaires. The analisis of this research was anava two away in different cell and the advance test used Bonfferoni test. The conclusion of this research were: 1) Problem Based Instruction had significant influence to the mastery of biology concept on X grade of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta; 2) Learning motivation had significant influence to the mastery of biology concept on X grade of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta; and 3) There wasn’t interaction between learning model and learning motivation to the mastery of biology concept on X grade of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. Key Words: the mastery of biology concept, Problem Based Instruction, and learning motivation

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to ascertain the influence utilization concept map in constructivisme type Novick model to overcome misconception on the concept of the human respiratory system. The research was quasi experiment research using quantitative approach. The research was designed using post-test only with nonequivalent group design. The sample of this research was established by cluster sampling. The populations of this research were all of 11th degree students of science at SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar in academic year 2012/2013. The samples of this research were the students of 11th Imersi I as experiment group and 11th Imersi II as control group. The data was collected using reasoning multiple choice test and observation form. The hypotheses analyzed by t-test. The research concluded that application of utilization concept map in constructivisme type Novick model didn’t influence on the efforts to overcome the misconceptions on the concept of the human respiratory system with the misconception degree that revealed unti 3,2% in the experimental group. Key Words: Concept map, constructivisme type Novick model, misconception, the human respiratory system

Abstract

The purpose of the research to improve the social skill of the X-3 graders of SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali in the school year of 2012/2013 by applying the contextual approach with group investigation learning model. Research method was a Classroom Action Research designed some cycles encompassing 4 stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of research was the X-3 graders of SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali in the school year of 2012/2013. The data was obtained using non-test technique including interview and questionnaire. The data was analyzed using a descriptive qualitative technique as well as data validation using technique triangulation. Result of the research showed the improved achievement of student social skills. The conclusion was that the application of contextual approach using group investigation learning model could improve the social skill of the X-3 graders of SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali in the school year of 2012/2013. Key Words: Contextual Approach, Group Investigation, Social Skill

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not there is an effect of Predict Observe Explain Write on the critical thinking ability of the X graders of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year on 2012/2013. This study was a quasi experiment research. Posstet only nonequivalent control group design is used in this research. The population of research was all X grades of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year 2012/2013 consisiting 285 students. Cluster sampling.is used to this research. The result of cluster sampling is choosen for X6 as experimental gruop and X7 as control group. Predict observe explain write model is applied in experimental group and conventional model is applied in control group.  The data was collected by using critical thinking test, observastion sheet, and school documents. The data were analyzed by t-test. The results of this research shows that the mean of student’s capability of critical thinking in experiment class higher than control class, it was 70,41 for experiment class and 61,98 for control class.  The result of hypothesis is analyzed by t-test and it gets significant value 0,000 (sig.<0,05), so the Predict Observe Explain Write model has effect toward student’s capability of critical thinking. This conclution is the application of Predict Observe Explain Write models has real effect toward critical thinking ability of X grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year on 2012/2013. Key Words: Predict Observe Explain model, Think Talk Write strategy, Critical Thinking Ability

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effect of inquiry-STAD (InSTAD) learning compared with that of the guided inquiry on the biology learning achievement of the X graders of SMA Negeri Gondangrejo in the school year of 2012/2013.This study was a quasi-experiment research. The research design was Post-Test only with Nonequivalent Group using experiment 1 class (InSTAD strategy) and experiment 2 (guided inquiry strategy application). The population of research was all X graders of SMA Negeri Gondangrejo in the school year of 2012/2013. The sampling technique used was cluster sampling and two classes were taken as experiment 1 and experiment 2 classes. Techniques of collecting data used were multiple-choice test, observation sheet, and school document. The hypothesis testing was done using t-test. The conclusion of this research were have not differences result between InSTAD and Guided Inquiry learning toward student’s cognitive achievement in studying biology of  SMA Negeri Gondangrejo and  have  differences result between InSTAD and Guided Inquiry learning toward student’s afective and psycomotor achievement in studying biology of  SMA Negeri Gondangrejo. With this research is expected to have a discourse teachers and new knowledge and be able to apply this learning to improve science process skills in students so that the nature of biology can be realized students working scientifically. Key Words: INSTAD Learning , Guided Inquiry Learning, Biologi Learning Achievement

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine: 1) to determine the effect of the use of guided inquiry learning model in biology learning to critical thinking skills of class X SMA N Karangpandan academic year 2012/2013; 2) to determine the effect of learning styles of students to critical thinking skills class X SMA N Karangpandan academic year 2012/2013; 3) to determine the interaction between guided inquiry learning model with the learning styles of students' to critical thinking skills class X SMA N Karangpandan academic year 2012/2013.This study is a quasi-experimental research . Guided inquiry learning model was as independent variable, learning styles was as a moderate variable, and critical thinking skills was as the dependent variable. The study population was the entire class X SMA N Karangpandan first semester of the academic year 2012/2013. The sample was class X6 as  control class and X3 grade students was as experiment class. The sampling technique used in this reserach was Cluster Random Sampling. Data collection techniques used critical thinking skills test technique while learning styles used questionnaire technique. Test the hypothesis using two-way Anava test and assisted by SPSS 20 with a significance level of 5%.Results from this research are: 1) The first hypothesis, based on two-way Anava test result was known that there is the influence of guided inquiry learning model to the critical thinking skills; 2) The second hypothesis, two-way ANOVA test result showed that learning styles do not affect the  critical thinking skill; 3) The third hypothesis, the results of two-way ANOVA test showed that there was no interaction between guided inquiry learning model with learning style of the students to critical thinking skill.Based on the results of research the conclusions are: 1) guided inquiry learning model affects on students' critical thinking skills class X SMA Karangpandan 2012/2013 academic year, 2) the student's learning style does not give effect to the critical thinking skills class X SMA Karangpandan academic  year 2012/20133) There is no interaction between guided inquiry learning model with the learning styles of students' to critical thinking skills class X SMA Karangpandan academic year 2012/2013. Keywords: Guided Inquiry Learning Model, Critical Thinking Skill, Learning Styles

Abstract

This research aimed to improve the scientific process skills and reduce misconception through the application of E-Module based on Problem-Based Learning in the X MIA 2 graders of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. This research was a Classroom Action Research consisting of 2 cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of research was the X MIA 2 graders of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta consisting of 42 students. Techniques of collecting data used were multiple choice test and observation to measured scientific process skills, open-ended reasoning of Two-Tier Diagnostic Test to measure misconseption, and interveiw as the proponent data related learning process. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative technique consist of three component: data reduction, data presentation, and taking the conclusion. Data validation was carried out using triangulation method. Target of research was 20% to increased scientific process skills and 20%  to reduced misconseption at the end of the cycle. The result of research showed that the scientific process skills to able increased through the application of E-Module based on Problem-Based Learning in all aspects: observing of 29.83%, categorizing of 11.73%, predicting of 37.33%, interpreting of 30.71%, measuring of 35.66%, communicating of 32.39%, designing experiment of 30.04%, experimenting of 21.82%, asking question of 23.42%, hypothesizing of 36.73%, and applying concept of 42.58%. On the other side, the  result of research also showed that there was a decreased misconception in ecological concept: population of 51.31%, community of 43.73%, ecosystem of 39.36%, and science, environment, technology and community (salingtemas) ecology of 54.33%. The conclusion of this research described that there was an increasing scientific process skills of 28.96% and reducing misconception of 47.18% by used the application of E-Module based on Problem-Based Learning. Keywords  : Scientific Process Skills, Misconception, E-Module based on Problem Based Learning.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not there is an effect of Project Based Learning (PjBL) on the critical thinking ability of the X graders of SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar in biology subject in the school year of 2012/2013. This study was a quasi-experimental research using Post-test Non Equivalent Group Design using cluster sampling. The population of research was all X graders of SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar in the school year of 2012/2013 consisting of 288 students, while the sample consisted of two classes: control one containing 33 students and experiment one containing 35 students. The control class employed varied lecturing learning method and the experiment one employed Project Based Learning (PjBL) model. Technique of collecting data used was test item and observation sheet. The research hypothesis testing was done using t-test.The result of research showed that Project Based Learning (PjBL) model affected the students’ critical thinking ability. The mean score of critical thinking ability in the experiment class employing Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in learning was higher than that in control class employing varied lecturing method.The conclusion of research was that Project Based Learning (PjBL) model affected significantly the critical thinking ability of the second semester of the X graders of SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar in the school year of 2012/2013. Key Words: Project Based Learning (PjBL) , critical thinking ability.
