Abstract

The research aims to improve the quality of student’s content writing in biology through implementation of Project Based Learning model. The research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the subjects of this research were students of class XI MIPA 6 SMA N 4 Surakarta are 32 learners. Research conducted by the cyclical phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research data was collected through observation, documentation, and interviews, which are equipped with a writing rubric skills. Data validation method using triangulation techniques. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis: reduction, presentation, and verification of data. The results showed an increase in the quality of learners writing the content for the application of the model Project Based Learning in learning biology.

Abstract

Problem-solving is a vital component under the cognitive standard of the 21st century skills for preparing students to face global competition. Problem-solving supported by another skill, one of which is scientific reasoning. Research objective is to analysis profile content and context of Biology references by interaction of problem-solving and scientific reasoning aspects. Research procedure applied Toulmin Argument Pattern (TAP) as a basic framework to identify the scientific reasoning aspects. Data obtained from the questionnaire, survey, and analyzed descriptively. Result indicates that the majority of Biology references does not required of balance proportion between problem-solving and scientific reasoning aspects. The lower aspect both of content and context was located in explore and Look back for Ground and Rebuttal aspects. In addition, this result can be used to inform future development of instruction and assessment problem solving and scientific reasoning skills.

Abstract

The availability of modules that are able to develop critical students' thinking skills has not been fulfilled. This study aimed to develop and determine the characteristics, feasibility, and effectiveness of guided inquiry-based ecosystem modules to improve students' critical thinking skills. This R&D research referred to Borg and Gall model with nine stages. The research instrument used was a test question sheet adapted from Facione. The data gained were analyzed using ANCOVA. The results of the study showed that: 1) the developed module was characterized with guided inquiry-based syntax and critical thinking skills aspect; 2) the module was declared feasible based on the gained validity scores i.e. 92.19 (very decent) from material expert, 81.90 (very decent) from learning expert, 78.57 (worthy) from linguist, 92.86 (very decent) from learning media expert, 92.36 (very decent) from practitioners, and 91.80 (very decent) from limited field test; 3) the student critical thinking skills achievement which treated by using the module was significantly higher compared to another class (F = 120.52; p-value < 0.05). It can be concluded that the developed module was feasible to be used in learning and effectively improved students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Based on the need’s analysis done, the empowerment of higher-order cognitive skills of the students in Surakarta was not optimal yet. This research addressed to determine and describe the feasibility of biology module which was arranged based on Stimulating Higher-Order Thinking Skills (Stim-HOTS) model. This Research and Development (R&D) involved six expert validators, including material validator, module development validator, language validator, learning instrument validator, and school practitioners. The results showed that the percentages of the module feasibility were between 83% and 98% which were categorized as very good. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be implied that the Stim-HOTS-based module can be used as learning resource.

Abstract

A proper learning media is critically needed in improving students’ critical thinking skill. This research and development aims were: 1) determining the characteristics of inquiry-learning-based module; 2) observing the feasibility of inquiry-learning-based module prototype, and 3) figuring out the effectiveness of the inquiry-learning-based module developedin improving students’ critical thinking on Anatomy Structure and Bacteria Physiology materials. This research and development used 4-D model with four stages, namely: 1) defining; 2) designing; 3) developing; and 4) disseminating. The data analysis technique used were descriptive statistics in term of percentage and inferential statistics i.e. paired samples t-test. The results showed that the module developed was very decent based on the averge scores given by all expert validators (90.73%) as well as education practitioners (91.99%). Moreover, students critical thinking skills was improved by using this module as the t-test analysis results (sig. < .05). Thus, the is suggested to implement inquiry-learning based module to achieve better students’ learning achievement, particularly in Anatomy Structure and Bacteria Physiology materials.

Abstract

This study was aimed to develop instruments to assess reasoning skills in the form of dynamic assessment as a formative assessment to improve students’ reasoning skills about bacteria. The cake format and graduated prompting method was used in this study. The instruments were based on the Fact and Proof Diagnostic Test and Structural Communication Grid (SCG) and focused on correlational reasoning and combinatorial reasoning. The instrument's development was carried out by compiling test items according to the basic competence of bacteria at the senior high school level, conducting test trials on 93 high school students, and analyzing the results of the instrument trials. Analysis of the test instrument consists of an analysis of validity, reliability, level of difficulty, distinguishing features, and effectiveness of the distractor's function. The results showed 53 items from 67 items were valid and equipped with prompts as guiding questions for each item.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Articulate Storyline-based learning media on learning motivation and satisfaction, as well as its effectiveness in online learning. The method used is Quasi-Experimental, the research design is Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample was students of class XI MIPA 2 and XI MIPA 6. Collecting data through observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires, and cognitive tests. Hypothesis testing using Manova to determine the effect, regression test to determine the extent of the effect, and N-Gain test to determine the effectiveness of the media. The results of the Manova test showed a sig=0.00 so H0 was rejected. Regression test results of learning motivation aspects: desire to achieve success (17.16%), motivation and learning needs (15%), future aspirations (15.61%), appreciation in the learning process (12.65%), activities interesting in learning (21.68%), and a conducive learning environment (17.92%). The results of the regression test for learning satisfaction aspects: tangible (29.56%), assurance (16.33%), empathy (23.68%), reliability (24.37%), and responsiveness (5.94%). The N-Gain result is 68.44%. It can be concluded that there is an effect of media on aspects of motivation and learning satisfaction, and the effectiveness is in the category of being quite effective (medium) on motivation and learning satisfaction.

Keterampilan pemecahan masalah atau problem solving didukung oleh berbagai keterampilan yang lain, salah satunya adalah penalaran ilmiah (scientific reasoning). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk melakukan analysis profile pada konten dan konteks dari modul biologi yang digunakan di sekolah SMA di Indonesia. Analysis dilakukan dengan menguji buku yang digunakan di SMA berdasarkan indikator yang dibangun dari interaksi aspek pemecahan masalah dan penalaran ilmiah.penelitian ini mengaplikasikan aspek penalaran ilmiah yang dibangun dari Toulmin Argument Pattern (TAP). Penelitian ini menghasilkan data dari studi kasus pada buku yang beredar di sekolah SMA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa buku biologi yang banyak beredar di pasaran dan sekolah belum memenuhi proporsi yang seimbang pada aspek pemecahan masalah dan penalaran ilmiah yang berdampak pada kurangnya keterampilan siswa dalam bernalar dan menemukan solusi dari masalah yang diberikan. Sebagai tambahan, aspek yang paling rendah yaitu aspek explore dan look back yang belum terakomodasi baik secara konten maupun konteks pada buku biologi yang ada di sekolah.

Abstract

IMPLEMENTATION OF DISCOVERY LEARNING MODELS WITH DIVERGENT QUESTIONS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ ARGUMENTATION SKILLS ON THE BODY DEFENSE SYSTEM MATERIALAbstractThis study aims to apply the discovery learning model with divergent questions to improve students' argumentation skills on the material of the body's defense system. The subjects of the study were students of class XI MIA 3 Gondangrejo Public High School consisting of 36 students. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). Data collection techniques were carried out through oral argumentation observation sheets, written argumentation evaluation question sheets, interviews, and documentation. A validity test was done by the triangulation method. Data analysis techniques were using interactive model analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research procedure is a continuous spiral model. The results of the application of discovery learning models accompanied by divergent questions show that oral argumentation skills in Cycle I are 26.67% reaching level 1 and 73.33% reaching level 3, increasing to Cycle II ie 16.67% reaching level 1, 8.33% reaching level 2, 62.50% reaching level 3 and 12.50% reaching level 4. Students' written argumentation skills in Cycle I was 16.6% reaching level 1, 22.7% reaching level 2, and 60.5% reaching level 3, increased to Cycle II, namely 7.78% reaching level 1, 6.67% reaching level 2 and 85.56% reaching level 3. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that through the application of discovery learning models accompanied by divergent questions can improve argumentation skills students on body defense system material. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan model discovery learning disertai pertanyaan divergen untuk meningkatkan keterampilan argumentasi siswa pada materi sistem pertahanan tubuh. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI MIA 3 SMA Negeri Gondangrejo yang terdiri dari 36 siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui lembar observasi argumentasi lisan, lembar soal evaluasi argumentasi tertulis, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Uji validitas dilakukan dengan metode triangulasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis model interaktif yaitu reduksi data, penyajian  data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Prosedur penelitian adalah model spiral yang saling berkesinambungan. Hasil penerapan model discovery learning disertai pertanyaan divergen menunjukkan keterampilan argumentasi lisan pada Siklus I yaitu 26,67% tergolong level 1 dan 73,33% tergolong level 3, mengalami peningkatan pada Siklus II yaitu 16,67% tergolong level 1, 8,33% tergolong level 2, 62,50% tergolong level 3 dan 12,50% tergolong level 4. Keterampilan argumentasi tertulis siswa pada Siklus I yaitu 16,6%  tergolong level 1, 22,7% tergolong level 2, dan 60,5% tergolong level 3, mengalami peningkatan pada Siklus II yaitu 7,78% tergolong level 1, 6,67% tergolong level 2 dan 85,56% tergolong level 3. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa melalui penerapan model discovery learning disertai pertanyaan divergen dapat meningkatkan keterampilan argumentasi siswa pada materi sistem pertahanan tubuh.

Abstract

MODUL BIOLOGI BERDASARKAN PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS MASALAH KOOPERATIF (CPBL) UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH SISWA DI MADRASAH ALIYAH NEGERIAbstrakModel CPBL (Cooperative Problem-based Learning) memiliki beberapa keunggulan seperti siswa ditantang untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang ada, sehingga semua keterampilan kognitif, afektif, dan psikomotor siswa dapat berkembang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan kelayakan dan efektivitas modul biologi berdasarkan model CPBL untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemecahan masalah siswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Penelitian dan Pengembangan (R&D). Model pengembangan penelitian ini menggunakan Borg dan Gall. Desain penelitian menggunakan metode desain eksperimen sejati dengan desain kelompok kontrol pretest posttest. Dua kelas dipilih oleh sampel acak sederhana. Penelitian ini melibatkan 171 siswa, 85 siswa di kelas kontrol dan 86 siswa di kelas eksperimen. Analisis data deskriptif digunakan untuk menganalisis kelayakan modul dan uji-t digunakan untuk menganalisis keterampilan pemecahan masalah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelayakan pengembangan modul memiliki hasil yang baik berdasarkan penilaian para ahli dan praktisi. Berdasarkan hasil uji-t, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen (0,001), n-gain skor kontrol dan kelas eksperimen masing-masing 0,30 (rendah) dan 0,54 (rata-rata). Berdasarkan penelitian, modul ini lebih efektif daripada buku teks dan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan pemecahan masalah siswa.AbstractCPBL (Cooperative Problem-based Learning) model has several advantages such as students are challenged to solve existing problems, so that all students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills can develop. This research aimed to determine feasibility and effectivity of biology module based on CPBL model to enhance students’ problem solving skills.  This type of research is Research and Development (R & D). The development model of this research uses Borg and Gall. The research design uses true experimental design method with pretest posttest control group design. Two classes were selected by simple random sample. The study involved 171 students, 85 students are in control class and 86 students are in experimental class. Descriptive data analysis was used to analyze the module feasibility and t-test was used to analyze the problem solving skills. The results showed that the feasibility of the module development have a good results based on assessment of the experts and practitioners. Based on the t-test results, there are significant difference between control class and experiment class (0.001), n-gain score of control and experiment class respectively 0.30 (low) and 0.54 (average). Based on the research, this module is more effective than the textbook and can improve students’ problem solving skills.
