Abstract

The research aimed to improve students’ science process skills through bounded inquiry laboratory model in biological learning process on 2nd  grade of science 2 at SMA N 1 Sukoharjo in Academic Year 2014/2015. The research belongs to classroom action research consist of two cycle and each have four phases, namely: planning, actuating, observing, and reflecting.  Research was carried out on four aspects of the students’ science process skills that includes aspects of measuring, formulating the problem, formulating hypotheses and experimental plan to achieve an increase of 20%. The Subject of this research is 2nd  grade 38 students of science 2 at SMA N 1 Sukoharjo. Sources of data obtained from the teacher and students. Test and non test technics were used to collect the data. It was carried out by using question test science process skills, observation, and interview. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method consist of three components , namely: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. Validated through using triangulation method. The method of research was spiral method. The result showed that bounded inquiry laboratory able to improve four aspects of student’s science process skills from Pre-Cycle, 1st Cycle and 2nd Cycle, such as: 1) in aspect measuring (32,00%, 74,48%, 86,57%) achieve an increase of 54,57%; 2) formulating the problem (25,72%, 73,42%, 91,58%) achieve an increase of 65,86%; 3) formulating hypotheses (24,00%, 83,69%, 94,31%) achieve an increase of 70,31%; 4) experimental plan (13,72%, 74,00%, 85,31%) achieve an increase of 71,59%. Therefore, it can be concluded that Bounded Inquiry Laboratory in biological learning process could improved students’ science process skills more than 20% on 2nd  grade students of science 2 at SMA N 1 Sukoharjo in Academic Year 2014/2015. Keywords: bounded inquiry laboratory model, science process skills

Abstract

The purposes of this action research are (1) to improve the concept understanding on excretion system through the implementation of guided inqury learning model, (2) to know the influence of guided inquiry learning model toward students concept understanding on excretory system, and (3) to know the level of student understanding on excretory system concepts. This study is an action research (Classroom Action Research) was carried out in three cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were students of class XI IPA ICT SMAN Kebakkramat in academic year 2013/2014. Data were obtained through cognitive tests, observations, and interviews. Data analysis techniques using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. Data validation using triangulation techniques. The results showed an increase in students' understanding of concepts for each sub subject of Excretory System. The level of understanding of the concept increased by 33.7% in the sub subject of skin excretory system, 8.93% in sub subject excretory system of the lungs, 22.62% in sub subject of renal excretory system, 20.7% in the sub-principal discussion liver excretory system, 8.93% in sub subject excretory system disorders, and 17.27% in sub subject of animal excretion system. Based on the results of this study concluded that learning through Guided Inquiry models can enhance students' understanding of the concept of excretory system grade XI IPA ICT SMAN Kebakkramat in academic year 2013/2014. Keywords : Guided Inquiry Learning Model, Understanding Concept

Abstract

The research aims to determine the difference between Discovery  learning with concept map and Discovery learning to understanding the concept of  Protista  X Grade Students SMA Negeri 1 Sukoharjo the academic year 2014/2015. This research was quasi experiment research which used Posttest Only With Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population studies are all X MIA class students of SMA Negeri 1 Sukoharjo in academic year 2014/2015. Sampling technique is using cluster sampling. There are two classes of the study sample, class as the experimental class 1 and the class as an experimental class 2. Class 2 experiments using Discovery  learning with concept map and experimental class 1 using  Discovery learning. The techique of collecting data is using Certain Response Index (CRI), observation sheets, and documentation. Hypothesis testing using t test assisted by SPSS 16. The result of this research is there a difference between Discovery  learning with concept map and  Discovery learning to  understanding of the concept of Protista X Grade Students SMA NEGERI  1 Sukoharjo the academic year 2014/2015.                                                                                                                                               Keywords: Discovery,Concept Map, Concept, Certain Response Index (CRI)

Abstract

The research and development are aimed: a) to develop a module based on research to improve the concept understanding and metacognitive ability of X student’s grade on the topic of ecosystem, b) to know the feasibility of module based on research to improve the concept understanding and metacognitive ability of X student’s grade on the topic of ecosystem, c) to know the effectiveness of module based on research to improve the concept understanding and metacognitive ability of X student’s grade on the topic of ecosystem. The research and development use  Borg and Gall ‘s procedure modified into seven stages, namely: 1) research and initial data collection, includes a review of literature and analysis the requirement; 2) Planning, involves making matrix of module, elaboration the indicators and learning objectives; 3) Preparation of the initial product; 4) First field testing, includes the validation test by expert of materials, expert of module design, expert of module developer and grammar, and expert of cognitive test, as well as user module (teachers and students); 5) Initial product revision; 6) The operasional field testing (stage II) with quasy experiment method. Test the effectiveness of product using Anacova at significans 0,05; 7) Final product revision. The result of the research shows that the module based on research on the topic of ecosystem is developed according to the Borg and Gall’s procedure modified into seven stages and arranged based on the research component. The feasibility of the module based on research is declared qualified "worthy" by the expert of materials, expert of module developer and grammar, expert of module design, and students (small groups), as well as qualified "very feasible" by expert of developer for test evaluation and the teacher (education practitioner). The module based on research is effective to improve the concept understanding represented by the average value of posstest for the treatment grade higher than the grade control, although statistical analysis shows no significant differences (Fvalue = 0,007 <Ftable (0,05:1; 58) = 4,00). The module based on research is effective to improve the metacognitive ability as indicated by the average value of posstest for treatment grade higher than the grade control, as well as statistical analysis shows a significant difference (Fvalue = 6,390> Ftable (0,05:1; 58) = 4,00). The conclusion of the research is the module based on research on the topic of ecosystem is feasible in learning and effective to improve the concept understanding and metacognitive ability. Key Words: Module Based on Research, Concept Understanding,Metacognitive Ability
