Abstract

 Peningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran pada siswa SMP IT Daarul Istiqlal dan SMP IT Rahmat melalui kegiatan pendampingan terhadap guru-guru dalam pengembangan sistem pembelajaran online berbasis aplikasi Google Meet bagi guru-guru. Kegiatan penelitian ini dilakukan dengan melakukan proses pendampingan sistem pembelajaran online berbasis aplikasi yang disebarluaskan kemasyarakat khususnya di sekolah-sekolah sebagai pemecah persoalan pengembangan pembelajaran di era pandemi covid-19.Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan didapat simpulan bahwa pembelajaran online dapat meningkatkan proses belajar mahasiswa yang lebih mandiri, kreatif serta inovatif. Apabila materi yang disampaikan pada google meeting dirancang secara detail, dan sistematis, maka pembelajaran bahasa inggris di SMP IT Daarul Istiqlal dan SMP ITRahmat Marindal I Kecamatan Patumbakdapat meningkatkan kualitas pengetahuan siswa. Kendala yang dihadapi dalam proses pembelajaran online ini dapat dilakukaan dengan kegiatan sosialisasi lebih intens diantara guru, guru dengan siswa. Selain itu, mencari solusi alternatif dalam menghadapi kendala diantaranya siswa mencari alternatif dengan memakai modem internet pribadi, warnet, atau dengan menggunakan aplikasi wifi.id berbayar yang telah disediakan oleh pihak sekolah guna meminimalisir kendala.  Secara umum, pembelajaran berbasis online ini manarik, menantang kemandirian siswa dalam belajar dan sebagai solusi terbaik di massa pandemic covid-19 yang menuntut physical distancing.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) find out the media used in teaching speaking for the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Medan, (2) determine the media needed by tenth grade students in speaking skills, and (3) to develop the valid media for teaching speaking based on the needs of tenth grade students. The research was conducted by using the Research and Development method from Gall, Gall, and Borg (2003). The research subject was X MIA 7 students of SMA Negeri 3 Medan. The research object is to develop the teaching English media for speaking skill by using ClassDojo Application. The instrument used was student questionnaire. The data was collected using questionnaires validation sheets. The validator consists of the English lecturer and teacher. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that: (1) the media used by teacher does not support teaching and learning processes, (2) interactive media such as ClassDojo is the media which is needed by students, and (3) the developed media have been valid with a percentage of 90% from lecturer and 86%% from the English teacher and this media is appropriate and applicable to use regarding the students' needs for speaking skills.Keywords: ClassDojo, Speaking, Research and Development (R&D), Teaching Media

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to: (1) find out the reading skill workbook used in tenth grade in SMA Swasta Budisatrya Medan, (2) determine the workbook needed by tenth grade students in reading skills, and (3) to develop valid workbooks for use in reading skills according to the needs of tenth grade students. The research was conducted by using the Research and Development method from Borg and Gall, Gall (2003). The research subject was X IPA 1 students of SMA Swasta Budisatrya. The research object is an inquiry based learning workbook. The instrument used was student questionnaire. The data was collected using questionnaires validation sheets. The validator consists of material expert, english teacher practitioner and the one class of tenth grade students. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that: (1) the workbook that used does not support inquiry based learning processes, (2) inquiry-based learning based workbooks are workbooks needed by students, and (3) the developed inquiry based learning workbooks have been valid with a percentage of 91.2% from expert material and 92.8% from the English teacher and this workbook is appropriate with students' needs for reading skills.Keywords: Inquiry Based Learning, Reading, Students’ Workbook

Abstract

This study aims to design Screencast O Matic as media of writing descriptive text for grade eighth students in Junior High School. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing the data, designing new writing media, validating to experts, revising writing media, and final product. The subject of this research was grade eighth students at SMP Negeri 27 Medan. The instruments used for collecting the data were interview and questionnaire. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 30 respondents to get the students’ needs in learning descriptive text. The writing media have been validated by two experts, English teacher and English lecturer. The average score from English teacher and English lecturer was 90,4% so it was categorized as Very Good. It means the developing Screencast O Matic as media of writing descriptive text is appropriate for grade eighth students in Junior High School. Keywords: Research and Development (R&D), Writing media, Descriptive text, Screencast O Matic

Abstract

Teacher’s questions play an important role in the classroom interaction. This study was conducted to investigate the levels of question that English teacher used while teaching narrative text. The subject of this study was an English teacher of SMA Gajah Mada. The data were collected by observing and recording while the teacher was teaching in two different meetings and also by interviewing the teacher. The research design of this study was qualitative research. The study reveals that the total number of the question was 63 questions that asked by the teacher. There were Low Cognitive Questions (LCQ); 48 (76%) remembering questions, 13 (21%) understanding questions, 0 (0%) applying questions and High Cognitive Question (HCQ); 0 (0%) analyzing questions; 2 (3%) evaluating questions, and 0 (0%) creating questions.
